It never ceases to amaze me the body of knowledge and skills that a rancher/farmer has to have to be successful--Animal science, animal husbandry, animal nutrition, animal psychology, agronomy, horticulture, plant science, plant pathology, basic veterinary medicine, electricity, plumbing, carpentry, welding, fence building, auto/truck mechanics, agriculture equipment maintenance, meteorology, insurance specialist, and banking/money management. Based on observing my family members and friends who have been involved in farming/ranching, I think a deep faith and supportive network of family and friends is also necessary! You and Marisa are a good team and are successfully working through all of your obstacles and challenges together! Thank you for sharing your lives with us!! I keep you and yours in my daily prayers!

... by keeping the system at a steady pressure. A bladder for a boiler furnace or large hot water heater is there for the same reason.
If you want to have the air moving in your well house they have solar powered fans that would work. We put one in our greenhouse about 10 to 12 years ago and it is still running. They have them at Home Depot.

I grew up up on well water. It was what we drank at meals. It was always cold and refreshing. The neighbor boy, who lived on a farm just half a mile down the road, would come in for a glass full, first thing, whenever he came over to play, as he liked our water so much more than his own well water.
I drank well water as a kid on my grandfather's farm all the time so cold and tasty but created to much iron deposits on my teeth rotted them my teeth literally where falling out of mouth now I have dentures be careful if you drink well water. Or get it tested for iron
@@darceyschultz2370 Luckily, we didn’t have an issue with iron in our water. Problems with my teeth came the candy I bought from cashing in beer and pop bottles that we picked up from the ditches on the walk to the bait shop on the other side of the lake.
I grew up on well water also. Have well water now. Sometimes you have rust, but you deal with it! 🌻👍🌻

Yes and no; the bladder (In Dusty's case it's inside the tank) plays the largest part of it. A larger bladder would be the correct suggestion to preserve the pump.

make sure to charge the air tank up to 2 PSI below the start PSI of the pump. Otherwise the pump will burn out much quicker than otherwise

That blue tank is called an accumulator. The same technology is used in most hydraulic systems in trucks, aircraft and many other situations. Basically it helps to keep the system pressurized and working at full capacity. Without it all you would have is the pressure generated by the pump.

My son Brad glued himself to himself 😂😂
I super glued my 2 fingers to the super glue tube while repairing my HP laptop hinge a few months ago. 🤣(HP stands for hinge problems lol). The tube cracked and I wasn’t fast enough getting my fingers off. I didn’t wanna glue BOTH my hands to it so I sacrificed my right hand. 😂 I couldn’t find the nail polish remover and my daughter was in bed so i couldn’t ask her. I googled and used baking soda. It took a long time and it was pulling on my skin. The next day I found the nail polish remover. It was under the kitchen sink where I put it in case I glued myself to something. 😂 I forgot. 🤣 Never again without gloves!! Oh and my hinge is working great. Superglue and baking soda makes a nice hard resin.
@@rockinrobin1007 my husband and I were out on a date when I got a phone call from my daughter asking if we had any fingernail polish remover. Knowing she doesn't use fingernail polish, I asked her if she glued her fingers together. She didn't want to admit it but finally did say yes. Needless to say I was laughing very hard! I know I'm a horrible Mom to laugh at her.

Hey she was a Help and wow the new take is going to help you all so much.
At the top of those pressure tanks is a Schrader valve, just like your car tires. You can use that valve to let the air out and reduce the pressure in the tank, before you cut the pipe. That way the water doesn't spray all over you. You could have also attached a hose to the spigot and turned that valve on to reduce the pressure and even opened the main valve to let the water drain to the tanks.

Our pressure tank went out last summer. It had rusted out the bottom. In this heat, water is primary for comfort. Your herd is always well taken care of. Thank you for sharing your experience 🦬

Working that new water tank is like me and my husband hooking up the hoses and stuff for our pool. We do it every year, but it's still a process. But it all works out in the end...😂
We put in a storage tank so if something happens to well we’ll have some water it also allowed more pressure in water lines. Have a blessed week. We on an aquifer to but some times it gets fouled due to a large oil field behind us but since they started cleaning up the field water has been good but high lime so we have a softener in house.

Wow! That tank seemed totally waterlogged! It's bladder must have been deflated. Our first house in CT had a shallow well, and that water tasted so good! But, at some point, we had up to 8 family members living in it. We would run out of water every summer. We had to schedule fast showers and laundry, which was a pain in the neck with teenagers. Here in Florida, we have city water. It's so nice not having to do with a water tank and well, now that we're seniors. There certainly is a never ending supply of projects on your ranch. I guess the positive side of that is you can never get bored. With prayers and love from Donna in Spring Hill, FL.
On any farm, you never run out of work waiting for you.
Teach your wife how an in line ball valve works. When the handle is a cross the pipe it's off, and when it's in line with the pipe it's on.
Hey Dusty looks like you did pretty good job to me. The rule with this type of pressure tank is to start with an empty tank. Find the cut in pressure on the pressure switchand pressurize the tank with 2 lbs less air pressure example is if rhe cut in pressure on the switch is 40 psi you want to have 38 psi in the empty tank. That pressure switch usually is rate at 40 to 60psi. Cuts in at 40 psi and cuts out at 60 psi. There different switches that are 20 -40 and also 30-50. These switches switches can be adjusted but I recommend not to mess with it if you don't know if the pump in the well can handle it.

When I built a home in southern Colorado, (desert country 7,600 in elevation. I drove a well point 1 1/4" galvanized pipe 16' into the ground.
Added a tank as you have plus a water pump. It supplied water for showers and watering the garden, and laundry for 8 people.
Our underground water and ground were much different than in Oklahoma.
Glad the well is working. Hope it continues. I read in the news that a white bison was born in Yellowstone National Park recently.
That nice long walk you should be holding hands since you have a few minutes alone and not busy.

Also when you are gluing PVC pipes together, better to apply glue to both surfaces of the joint. Makes sure that there are no weak spots.

Use the wet or dry glue it’s an aqua blue color for water systems it can glue pipes or fittings even with water dripping

A way of checking how much water is in the well is dropping a rod with an eye in it down the shaft till it stops then pull it up watching for the water mark on your rope market and measuring it to the bottom of the rod should give you an idea of how much water from bottom up to top of water and marking the rope at the top will give you total depth of well and how far below surface to water table in well
I didn’t notice you putting Teflon tape on the male fitting into the bottom of the tank. I probably just missed it BUT if you didn’t keep your eye on it. It may leak without it.
These blue pressure tanks are quite common. Every time an electric motor turns on and off it places more stress on the motor. If you just has the well motor connected to a pressure switch at the use point the motor would be turning on and off with grease rapidity. This is called short cycling and it’s a bad thing.
In the old days we used to have huge galvanized tanks that held 20,40, 100 gallons of water, they lasted about 50 years and held water between 30 and 50 PSI, 50 psi means mostly full, 30 psi means mostly empty. There is a problem however in these tanks that air would leak out. So you would need to shut off the pump and drain the tank. The baffle keeps the air and water separated.
The newer blue tanks are a magnitude smaller and have a higher tension baffle in them which maintain pressure, these tanks need always to be charged, if not they over stretched as the baffled is pushed toward the outlet. The typical operating range is 45 to 65 psi absolute or 30-50psi when atmospheric pressure is subtracted, depending on one’s elevation above MSL. As a consequence the newer tanks use more of their volume relative to the larger tanks. The problem is that they have much lower capacity in a drought and don’t last as long.
You actually don’t need a sealed tank at all, my uncle had a raised cement cylinder about 40 feet high on his farm. As the volume raises so does the PSI at the base.
To get 40 PSI you need 40*6.89 kPa or 27,560 Pa which is Kg/(m^2*sec^2).
Since water has a density of 1000kg/m^3 you need to stack the cubes about 28 meters high or about 87 feet high to get 40 PSI or around 110 feet high to get 50 PSI. It helps to have a hill on the property to build such a tank. Municipalities often build water towers, in which the majority of the tower is at or above the PSI target then use pressure regulators in different parts of the system to even out pressure. The advantage of the cement water tank is that it can store significantly more water in a drought (my uncles was about 10 feet across), even though at the end of the drought you will end up having to pump water from the bottom of the tank to maintain pressure. The other problem is they tended to leak and grow all kinds of critters in them.
A better strategy is run-off capture tanks that are fenced away from the animals. The levels of recent flooding on your property indicate you and your neighbors are well below optimal surface water storage. Surface tanks not only store water to the animals, they feed water slowly into the aquifers depending on the clay used to line the tank. Because of the lack feed water last summer your wells went dry. The other advantage of large fenced off tanks is that you can stock them with large mouth bass, sunfish, chad. This will give something for your snakes to feed on😎 From these tanks you can feed water to the animal watering tanks or irrigation systems.

When I worked in hydro, the Techs, and still do use an electronic tape to measure the depth of the lake and compare it to the metering instrumentation. It is essentially a long tape measure that when the tip touches water the top of the water column it will beep. This will help with not running the well dry. Not sure how expensive though
