I really wish CZcamsrs wouldn’t put inspirational music in the background of their videos. It’s a psychology trick which makes any dialogue sound more profound or wise.
i think its to hide the edits, its like an advert for thinking. gives it flow, but I do nt like it either.
In this case, redundant. This guy IS profound and wise all by himself.
coda creator to conclude that a person is profound and wise, is showing ones own level of knowledge and intelligence. I like this guy, I agree and understand what he says, but he only appears profound and wise to people with subordinate knowledge and intelligence.
@@james-r deep, but only to another subordinately unwise person like myself.
It's disrespectful to this man to imply that any such tricks are required to enhance his message. Fail.
On his bit about thinking. A wise man once uttered, "For most people, thoughts occur to them randomly, and they accept them. They call this 'thinking.' It is not. Thinking is conjuring a mental position, and then observing it from as many different positions as possible, and testing it for its logical sufficiency. You try to destroy that position. That is thinking."
Most people don't think. Thoughts happen to them.
Haha,
Yes, Thinking is a state of defeat or assuming one
I didn't think about your comment, you are correct.
I think you haven't thought it through. We must think, to investigate what our minds text us, yes, some go with that meggage, they call it instinctive reaction, and there's nothing wrong with doing what's needs to be done. It's, your judgement that's call into questin, right or wrongly.
I would just like to listen to this guy for my entire life, as long as that lasts, i don't wanna ever stop being inspired by him. He is simply brilliant.
He looks 15 and 50 all at the same time.
You just destroyed my focus and attention......didnt know that I was meant to laugh at some point
Whoever edited this, please stop using the circle effects.
:D
SuperMunQ agreed. Very distracting and triggering. Good interview though
Don't be a square.
Yeah it makes it unwatchable
14 sec and i'm agree with you
This beautiful man is probably the only person I could listen to for hours and hours. I don't even like watching interviews with him, because there will be somebody else speaking 😆
Who loves his accent? 👍
Wouldn't it be wonderful to have a person such as Alain Botton advising our leaders.
Violet Gruner he is. Have you watched the video?
An interview that requires a single shot for the entirety of the video, somehow contains more edits and effects than the latest Avengers film.
One of the most important interviews I’ve EVER seen. A true leader and renaissance man is Alain de Botton. Completely inspiring.
You, idiot.
Really!
Adam why are you so butthurt kiddo
Possibly my favourite contemporary public intellectual, he's just great! Enormously influential on my own life and I go back to him time and again.
Wish i had more people like him in my life..
It is surprising that I bought a book, in Spanish by this author a long time ago, and now I find him on youtube. It is very rewarding
Great points but terrible production, the music at the end and 'inspirational' sounds throughout.. Very distracting... Just let the man speak
I came to the comments to say the same
I thoroughly agree. Alain has a wonderful narrative voice. The ‘enhancements’ really detract instead of add. The clarity of his speaking is lovely on its own.
I enjoyed listening to this wise man!
never tired to write that I adore this man!
I'm pretty sure I've seen enough of his videos that I've fallen in love with him.
@@SmallBobby haha, you are not alone
Such an inspiration ! Alain is the real deal.
What an inspiring man you are Mr Botton. Thank you for all your videos !!
*That awkward moment in which you recognize the School of Life voice*
lol
Such a wise man!
Wow, I am surprised Alain was in my country Uganda :) I feel embarrassed I didn't get to know he passed by. No one talked about him. I guess I am the only one following.
probably a lot of ugandans were busy dealing with the problems he mentioned at the start
@@rotichnicholas7207 LOL. Me inclusive :D :D
I love Alain de Botton 🥰 🦋
Alain, today's everyone's philosopher in plain English.
Fuck off!
@Cliff Hanley
Incurious? You wish he was a Christian? I'd say curiosity about the whole God business is exactly what gets you further away from it generally speaking.
@Cliff Hanley
Where do you get the impression that he's incurious?
What is there to be curious about? I'm simply exhausted of all the nonsensical theist rhetoric and arguement style personally. Goodness can we just not have it anymore? Can we move on from the whole religion thing as a species finally? What curiosity is there to have in the circular, never ending, irrationality of discussion on the topic? It's so simple to refute theistic trifle I don't have an ounce of curiosity left for any of it.
(Speaking to a theist) You cannot proove god exists, much less your one. I cannot disproove god. Therefore what does it matter?
@Cliff Hanley dear Cliff, nobody is asking Alain to bring God in his words. Let the man talk the way he needs to talk. If he doesn't talk about God, hé doesn't talk about God, no comment. I am interested in Alain. Nobody is interested in a version of him you wish him to be; because that is NOT him.
Excellent thoughts. I agree that we need to improve us, us people. Alain gives us good ideas of how to do it. I wish these concepts were introduced into regular school curriculum. Thank you!
So humble!
Love this man
Nobody:
The guy who edited this video: lets add a fuckton of circles!
I think this person is one of the most crucial thought leaders to evolve/understand religion in our society.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Thank you for you work. You're "a light on to the world".
I am just completely mesmerised by his mind! He is brilliant! I just want to listen to him all day....
This compels me to really do some deep thinking and engage in life. Don't wanna just wallow in my "brilliance". Merci Alain
Alain your voice is charming and I love the way you illustrate such complicate modern life issues! By listening to your talk I can immidiately visualize your ideas in my head. It is maybe because I prefer listening that I personally find watching youtube rather distracting. I appreciate your hard work, Alain! Keep up the good work!! Cheers from Korea!!!
I love this interview, thanks guys! - great work and I look forward to seeing many of such great leaders through your channel.
My morning prayer. Glad I have found this man!
Adorable and such an accessible man! He's a blessing for humanity.
Enchanted by the normalcy of life and its greater picture.....thank you Alain de Botton
I adoreeeeeee Alain 😍😍😍😍and all his books !
I identify so much with this man. Thanks for posting this. And please drop the fancy cinematic effects.
Intelligent and insightful, nothing new but beautifully brought together, thank you
“A part of everyday alone, thinking”….. me too
This brief tail contains so many brilliant ideas that I have to save and keep this video in order to remind myself. Love this talk, thank you.
Every word I here from Alain de Botton are so trully obvious, but we talk about it as if we were just an audience to those experiences, when in fact we are the sctors! Thank you!!
Interesting, noble & needed. How to integrate thinking with my surroundings as I am a dreamer (always was & be). Life is beautiful & I took it. Great to hear de Botton, whish a few of him (man or woman) were nearby...
I am a philosophy grad school drop-out and everything he says so resonates with me! I totally made all these critiques and I couldn't figure out how to fight the system. So glad he took up the sword.
He just changing the system to suit his needs to make money.
What are your reasons to think that his prime motive is money?
@@AWhileHanlin whatever his motivation may be, his criticism of philosophy is totally on point and valid. Philosophy departments, worldwide, have been in dereliction of duty for at least 50 years now.
This is the best Alain de Botton interview I've watched
Thank you
Thanks Alan! The School of Life is great! but they should also put in their educational systems subjects regarding Nature, Environmental problem and raising more awareness for Nature , our Earth and animals. Man is NOT the only entity here.
thanks!@Lance Bermudez Nature, environment and our surrounding are not separate from every day life, we are in this world and connected to other phenomena, our well being depends on bees, waters, clouds etc.....
Going in, one may suspect such a meet and greet would go well. But that was a thoroughly insightful conversation.
i did not see the circles nor heard the music because every word Alain said was music to my ears! this man is my hero..
i love this man
Loved this conversation so much. His thinking is fun and engaging. Thank you.
Whistling my tune man! amazing to hear someone who shares my points of view.
Love his spirit
I love the school of life!
thanks youtube for recommending this :)
The random flashing circles were a great addition to the video and not distracting at all, thank you for adding them.
He's softly spoken voice inhances his intelligence. Those who yell lack creditability. No one picks where you are born but what an impact on your life it has.
So Alain, you are one of the rare ' organic philosopher's', luckily for us. And for philosophy as it once was.
Gibberish.
Thanks!
at 20 he felt like 45 and then he just stopped aging somehow.... he doesn't look like 50.
whaat is he 50
@@dulgoonbold5634 he is born in 1969.
EXACTLY
It’s the varied consumption of the Scotch collection so well hidden in the background. (:
Wow ! This kind of message brings me so much joy, can not agree more, fantastic, I so much identify with this view points, I discover philosophy very recently, but what I discover is that it was practically unside of me for the most part of my life, I am 58 today, but stylish and mentally jung and a bit experienced, I so much want to contribute to myself so I can then contribute to the world, in whatever way possible. Thank you very much for the emotional and mental accompainment Mr. Botton, greetings from Colombia, South -America.
I would honestly love to meet Mr Alaine de boton
Thanks, Alain..best wishes from indonesia
Love Alain.....
Agree with everything he says. I want Mr Alain to visit India.
Cool interview. Never heard of him until now but loads of information!
awesome.
I had to close my eyes and listen as the spots hurt my eyes. How do you expect me to think with such
static? By the way I agree with what you say.
Great Alain, a good ply in putting the white flashes on the video, the art of listening.🤝🔑👌
i love this video...
I have never related to a person so much in my entire life
Wow! I feel the same way. #brilliant 🎉
Love this guy.
Wonderful talk! as usual 🙂
His comments on forgiveness resonated with me...its in short supply in our modern societies...and its always been the mechanism through which we are encouraged to think, act and do things...because we know if we make a mistake we wont be punished in perpetuity. In its absence, people become less inclined to think objectively, take any risks and lead less fulfilling lives
Life experienced people. I'm both, a humanities/liberal arts major with experience US Retail Banking/Insurance/Sales. I've done a variety of jobs, come from a broken family/have struggled in many unique and universal ways. I love philosophy and laud Alain's work, beginning back with Social Anxiety, a work that transformed the way I view our society and the issues plaguing it.
here too. I struggle and my family could use some fixing Philosophy can be pretty cool
refreshing voice my man, big ups
Eckhardt Toll suggests not thinking! It is a relief, but it sure can be fun to think well! Thank you, Alain de Botton!
Love the white rings, brilliant
I feel connected
WOW!! Better than any church service sermon ......I feel so relaxed after watching this. ....Still gonna think about this; The Death Of God'' thing...
That was soooo interesting !
brilliant.
Such a gorgeous accent! Stunning eyes! Amazing conceptions and observations... and if he reads this his ego won’t care at this stage of his evolution ... I love his head! I live in Geneva and am so stuck, working in a golden cage! Oh Ireland, do I return to you... always my questions !
This man is a genius, his channel is my favorite.
Glad Alan made the turn for himself so that we have him today
His Status Anxiety is one of my favorite books.
And, the first lesson in Philosophy and Thinking 101: Overthinking.
How the hell does he look old and young at the same time !!!?? He broke the space continuum of time and he is stuck in the middle of nowhere.
As many as his talks are, this one is just as interesting and marvelous. There are even ones that I talk about on my channel like those on TED and Google. They are pretty good as well. Such a great speaker with a great mind!
How have i never heard of this man yet i have thought everything he said
Leaders with power and influence, that have emotional intelligence, that are able to reflect and offer alternative perspectives, will impact society in dynamic manors.
In the sea chaos and turmoil that is this modern world, Alain de Button is an island of reason and coherence.
I’m a deep thinker of the school of life! Really, they fit with my type of thinking, they help move my own thinking around...thanks
I really wish we have our leaders in universities and institutions like this inspiration man. Unfortunately, philosophy in life we did not gain it in the earlier age we just discovered it later.
brilliant mind.
I think we were symphonic music which then got speeded up to jazz and has now gone off the cliff and we are falling from grace.
His work introduced me to philosophy a few years ago, a book that I purchased for $1 made me question the way I looked at things around me. I'm not a fan, but I do appreciate his efforts.
I really like his blue shirt, looks very smart and dare I say, very well made. :)
If the aim of the editor is to use circles like some subliminal and get its viewers to see them everywhere after watching, then congratulations. on the other hand, listening to Alain is always calming, like the human version of watching an infinity symbol being drawn
