Cold War Assault was a good warm-up. I thought it'd be best to start with the game I've loved for many years. It's not perfect but I'm happy that it's done. I wanted to go more in-depth but decided to cut out a lot during editing. I wish I kept more of it but knew how late I was already, so I can focus more on writing, content, and production next time. Neo Scavenger is next so I can prepare for Ostranauts.

Love it when children review a game, with zero personal perspective and pretend to have a valid opinion. You weren't there, you don't know. Just because you finally made it to the party, doesn't mean the party just started. When a mission will not end(such as in your example clip) it's waiting for you to kill the remaining soldiers that are in the scripted area OR it is waiting for retreating soldiers to leave the scripted area. That why the "3 minute" wait happened to you. Can be much longer if a wounded enemy solder is literally crawling away. Don't be a twat, this isn't CoD.
Ayo what explain
I mean yes that happens too but you're insane if you think OFPs engine and spaghetti scripting is flawless. I know that mission and I knew where the enemies are placed. Look at my other example at the rebel castle where neither Armstrong nor the rebel leader load in. Shit breaks in ofp just as much as it breaks in a1 a2 and a3. Dont be a gatekeeping shitlord homie
imagine calling people names over their review and opinion on a 20 year old, outdated game
@@thechief4114 >outdated
It's better designed than many games released today.
@@EnclaveTrooper1 Just because it's better than shit doesn't mean it's not outdated
The game is currently being given away as part of a 20 year anniversary promotion on GOG.
Steam too
The original Operation Flashpoint (GOTY) and its extension, Resistance, (one of the best extensions in gaming history) have the best storyline in all of ArmA series. The stories of newer ArmAs tend to be "realistic", history like, and more focused on the realistic experience in an open world (that's Bohemia's touch that codemasters did not prioritize. Codemasters wanted Bohemia to rid of their baby, the VBS engine, while the later wanted to explore and improve on it). Operation Flashpoint has one of the most remembered stories as you feel envolved with the characters which also evolve during the campaigns.
Totally disagree. Bohemia's games are great and unique simulators offering one-of-a kind multiplayer experience but they by definition cannot be realistic because they are full of non-existing countries and their respective armies, futuristic weapons and planes. The only thing that's real is NATO which is weird. They should have replaced it, too. Codies' Flashpoints, on the other hand, all have real countries: China, Tajikistan, USA. In their games, you are a marine fighting ETIM and PLA. That's the reason their Flashpoints were banned in China. Even the original Cold War Crisis is not as realistic as the Codies', becuse of fictional Malden and Everon.
@@etnogamer7073 I'm sorry but I could care less about the scenerio and more about the involvment and realistic mechanizm.
@@etnogamer7073 i think you're mistaking 'realism' for real life.
ARMA is 'realistic' in its design,
ARMA is NOT true to life.
We aren't in a war with any of the nations you listed, does that deminish Dragon Risings quality? No, but apparently the gameplay did.
RIP OFP
@@AzukeePlays What you call real life and (relative) realism are two things that gave ofp its unique soul. When Bohemia's first Arma came out with bs non-existing armies and countries, I felt like 1/3 of what I loved about ofp had been thrown out of the window. I don't devide realism and real life. I want them BOTH in a fine ballance that existS (yes, ofp still lives cuz people play it) in Operation Flashpoint:). Good thing I have semblance of it in ArmA 3 SOG Prarie Fire. Although it's kinda late for me.
As for DR and RR, they don't have the same degree of freedom as ArmA 3, but it's enough for me personally. As for 'realism' in games, it's still always limited. The more you try to replicate the real experience, the more complex the game gets. The more complex it gets, the fewer people play it. And you know what that means:)
@@etnogamer7073 so Is kolgujev real cause you didnt mention it
i think everyone does the same thing when they try out the editor for the first time, just throw a bunch of units down and watch the slaughter, tanks VS infantry....infantry vs planes...player as a sniper VS 100 enemy soldiers, but then afterwards we get kindof bored and try to make a real mission with triggers and such, then the fun really begins. then you discover the game has a shitload of mods out there and then the REAL fun begins!!!! i love PC games that you can mod the shit out of, it adds so much replay value....i don't think there is a single game(moddable)out there that hasn't been made better through mods, so a BIG THANKS to the modding community for all the kewl mods for all the different games out there, and this includes the many total conversions as well.....thanks guys!!!!!!!
And then i find it more fun where i just play as a civilian and then drive around in a sports car...
It’s these smaller channels that end up being real gems.
You're a real gem ;)
I can't describe how good this game was at that time. Even today we are still playing it but as an improvement of the same product.
I spent hours and hours... it was awesome.
Good review. OFP is one of my few top-favorite games of all time, despite being aged badly, but I'd jump on it and mod the shit out of it again any time. There's something about it so unique compared to A1-A3
man thank you for reviewing this amazing game. Still playing to this day
Definitely a game I hope is never forgotten. OFP, and JK2:Jedi Outcast, are a couple of the most sentimental games to me.
Nice to know I'm not the only one who uploads this sruff.
Everyone from GOG is coming in 3..2..1
Playing the original OFP campaign in the mission where you are told over the radio to "Evac at Morton" and end up lost in the woods I actually managed to run all the way to Morton only to find that there was nothing there...Bohemia Interactive had never planned on that outcome. However I wasn't satisfied with this, I decrypted the campaign pbo file and edited the mission so that if you do run to Morton you actually can get evacced by a Blackhawk and then skip to the appropriate place forward in the campaign. The fact that I could do this is what makes this game great, I also made the main campaign coop so I could play on a LAN with friends.
That's rad. OFP always brought out creativity in me. I wish I had a backup of the old Mad-Max-esque campaign I was trying to make, but my old HDD died years ago and I lost all the work. OFP will always be a special game. I've been getting back into A3, and the modding community now is crazier than it was last time I played. New and improved melee system, Enhanced movement enhanced further. Vindicta blew my mind coming from Antistasi and Wasteland.
Makes me really wish I was old enough to hit OFP in its heyday.
0:46 animation is so good
I got into this game cause Bohemia interactive stopped supporting multiplayer and downloads for Arma 2 free back in 2014. My gaming experience has continued to be low end shit, so I hoped getting into OFP wouldn't lag as much as Arma 2 while still keeping that similar experience. Funnily enough I barely ever touched the campaign and instead played a shit ton of multiplayer exactly on gameranger. Initially for the most part I would play very bad MP conversions of the main campaign with a few strangers I'd encounter. I would soon later make my own missions of varying quality and convert official and user-made singleplayer missions so we wouldn't keep playing the only few good MP missions. Kept doing that for the next few years until I got bored playing OFP almost everyday. Met a bunch of people just by hosting or joining rooms in gameranger, a few of whom I still keep very close in touch with to this day.
Back when all i had was OFP, before the expansions, i got crazy into the editor. Starting out missions with a couple combat scenes that you could make very cinematic and music playing. Then you start into the mission. I could never quite get the mission balance right and mostly used the I44 mod, but it was so easy to leanr and so much fun. Each Arma is a vast improvement on the last and there is no game quite like it. Im sure its fun in MP, but i never tried it and just had so much fun in SP. There are some games currently that may be as good, but theyre all MP only so Arma is all ive got and its really all i need with the amazing mods for every era. Heres hoping they bring back Arma 2 to gog so i can stop using my broke BI installer, and bring Arma 3 to gog
Spent 99% of my time in singleplayer but the coop was a ton of fun. Made missions for my siblings and we played with mechs/wh40k, jurrassic park, zombies/vampires, aliens and predators, cops and robbers in Red Rock, and farming sim in nogova where we'd protect our animal squad from waves of pirates. Such a fun game sandbox, played Arma 3 which is also fun but the modbase in OFP was one of the best I've ever experienced in terms of variety.
Modded it with the ffur 1985 mod and it's really fun all things considered
Yeah i was playing this when i was a 5-7 and because of it i get jumpscared by anything shooting at me not knowing where they are especially because of tanks.Im 13 now and i still have that feeling
Good on you, little man. Old games need appreciation too!
I find it really odd that Bohemia Interactive chose to sell the Windows version and MAC/Linux version separately, even on steam.
Bohemia likes to make a lot of odd decisions, like Take on Helicopters and Take on Mars.
@@AzukeePlays tbh take ons are kinda good. Atleast they gave us maps semi compatible with A3
The Map/scenrio creator was the best on this, i just created my own battles none stop lol
🙂 Thank You for the Review
Still got the original cd copy ;)
I bought both OFP and OFP:R not long ago just so I had copies of the originals
Tank shells make you fly like when a giant kills you in Skyrim, 10/10
Especially the HEAT
I played Operation Flashpoint GOTY ( Game Of The Year ) Together with the Red Hammer Campaign I really enjoyed this game when I played the first time
I'm kind of a newbie looking to try out military styled games and their series, so I bought this and even though you said you don't come to this game for the story, I still love the story anyways. I'm sure modding and all that is cool but it sounds a bit complicated to me. And yes it is very hard. Freakin dying 7 times on the mission when Papa Bear and everyone leaves you, so then your only hope is a walk through on how to complete the mission. But anyway, overall it's a pretty good game...for its time.
Its definitely become dated. I have a bias towards certain charms of early 2000s games.
Yeah me too.
I play Reforger on Xbox but I'm still gonna buy this!
David, hey do you have any other sites to connect and chat besides Twitter/X?
Got it from steam and im surprised that it runned perfectly on my garbage pc. But im still confused on the controls. Like in single player it said V is reload while its zoom and r is reload
Thats odd i never noticed that before
There is a way to play operation flashpoint multiplayer. There's a custom claint who replaces gamespy.
Its called OFPMonitor.

I can play it with steam friends online by hosting a game in the menu and giving them my IP address to connect to directly.
@@topaziscringeverycringe8532 I actually knew about OFPMonitor i just never found an opportunity to try CWA/OFP MP with it or Gameranger. I'm super thankful there's still a community keeping OFP a managable gem.

You can't.

There's also GI Joe mod. OFP has some good stuff!
hey, how did you get to run the game? I just got mine from gog and it won't run.
I have the steam version which only has issues if I turn draw distance up to high. Does it just not start at all, or does it crash w/ an error message?

This game is pretty good

What's the mod at 5:51?
Unit is R.O.K. (Republic of Korea).
Map is either NewLand, Star Light, or AirWolfMod's Red Rock iirc

@@j99044 i honestly wouldnt remember its been so long.
It might not be on ofp . info. some mods i find on random sites/forums
Arma 2 is my favourite out of all the armas, but i love the ofp settings so i always play with a mod that ports OFP stuff called "CWR2". Still, despite this i wish arma 2 had some little things that it left behind in OFP. Like the death animations, which were smooth as hell, or vehicle interiors.
I just can't seem to like Arma 3.
I preferred OFP death animations too. Really miss them in ARMA3. Mods try to reintroduce them, but never had the same feel. I never messed with CWR2, but now I'm thinking I should.
Also, A2 didn't have vehicle interiors (I assume you mean for armor)? I totally forgot this
@@AzukeePlays Do mess with CWR2 by all means. It is the most complete mod for arma 2, and has tons of extra content. They even ported community made MP missions from the old OFP days for it.
Cwr3 just doesn't compare.
Yeah a2 didn't have vehicle interiors, that is what i meant to say. except for a few APCs. But my pc is old so it might be a blessing in disguise.
its free right now on steam
its free now, just installed it
It's free on steam today boissss
I was wondering why somebody else brought up GOG too. Get your free game friends!

good video dont know why you dont have many views
In my opinion OFP is just such an old niche title that many dont care enough about to search for it. The video has surprisingly been getting a lot more views lately, so maybe it's doing some good and reviving interest!
@@AzukeePlays yeah this game really made me appreciate the soldiers who went through hell in real life
Its free on steam .
I love Arma and always have, but this is for anyone who thinks Arma is realistic or thinks they are a military genius because they play it.
For anyone on here who claims Arma is so realistic, or that it makes them smart with military tactics, or just uses it as an opportunity to bash CoD:
There are so many factors missing in this game to make it realistic.
1.) No wind. Yes there is bullet drop and a large island to deal with. Whoopidy-do. But you don't have to compensate for windage or humidity or anything in that nature. Yes, humidity changes bullet trajectory.
2.) Your soldier never gets tired no matter how injured he is or even if he sprints across the whole island. Try fighting after sprinting with 80 lbs of gear on you. My father (U.S. Army reserve from the same time period this game takes place) can vouch for that. Even though he never seen any combat, he was in drills that simulate that scenario to a degree.
3.) Weather conditions. You yourself (or the soldier you play as) are affected by weather conditions in this game. Whether it is winter, summer, fall, spring etc...; fighting under harsh weather conditions makes combat that much harder.
4.) Aircraft (helicopters especially) are no where near realistic when it comes to controls. Also, you are never supposed to parachute out of a helicopter, much like you see several times in this game.
5.) Obviously none of the armored vehicles are realistic as far as the controls go.
6.) When you are wounded, you don't have to put up with the pain of fighting while wounded. Try that. You don't even have to worry about bleeding out while waiting for a medic or ambulance. Also, it takes 3 seconds for a medic or field hospital or ambulance to heal you completely, and it can happen infinitely. How realistic.
7.) The recoil of the firearms aren't even realistic.
8.) Visibility in the game at far distance is much better than in real life (as far as seeing the individual soldiers).
9.) Your soldier never needs a drink of water or a bite of food or a wink of sleep no matter how long you've been playing. Try having energy to fight if your aircraft had gone down and you are stranded trying to survive on your own without any of that.
10.) In the campaign, your squad members can die in every mission and come back to life for the next mission.
11.) Tactical view as an officer or squad leader. You mean to tell me in real life you can zoom out in the 3rd person about 50 feet in the air and see the whole battle field around you can make tactical decisions like that? Oh, and 3rd person view. That says enough right there.
12.) There are no civilians on the islands during the conflict unless needed for the storyline.
13.) Bullets can't penetrate thin materials like in real life. (Looks like CoD beat you there)
That's all I care about writing for now, If I care to write anymore later after you reply with something stupid I will.
Point is, I play CoD and even I can see this. I love Arma, but it is only very slightly more realistic than CoD. That's not saying much at all though. So get off your high horses and quit claiming to be military experts because you play Arma
These are good observations, King. I hope you don't think i fall into that "armchair soldier" category. A few off your points are moot, but i still agree with you. Anybody that thinks they are a leader because they are good at warsims are kind of weird ngl

I just donwloaded it if im correct isnt operation flashpoint cold war assult abandonedware
I'm honestly not certain on the semantics of abandoned-ware, but since it was re-branded and re-released by Bohemia as ARMA: Cold War Assault I wouldn't think so. I just checked myabandonedware.com and they have the steam link for A:CWA instead of a direct download for OFP:CWC or OFP:R, so I would assume not abandoned-ware.
@@AzukeePlays oh check oldgamesdownload.com they have opertation flashpoint with the 3 campaigns lol
Abandoned-ware seems loose it's always hard to tell. I just decided to buy box copies of Flashpoint: Gold Edition (Which included Red Hammer) and Flashpoint:Resistance. That was more through passion and preservation. To even make the original run on my PC I had to hunt for the right updates.
