    Whats up guys! My name is Kenji and I am currently a medical student at King's College London after graduating from the University of Birmingham with a Bachelor's degree in Medical Science (BMedSci). In this video, I talk to Pelumi Daniel about his experience studying medicine in Bulgaria (Eastern Europe) after being rejected from medicine in the UK.
    If you enjoyed the video, please give it a like and a comment so I know to make some more! Also please show support by sharing it with a friend who's also interested in Medicine :)
    Thank you so much!

    I was rejected by the DPRK Pyongyang Medical University.
    So I ended up having my dreams crushed by being rejected by the highly prestigious Pyongyang Med School.
    I ended up at my 3rd UCAS choice......King's College London.

      As for my med school: I have been thinking about it more and more again recently after seeing all these incredibly inspiring med school videos such as yours, Kharma Medic's and Sebastan Piries's. Who knows... Maybe I will apply after all! I mean, the worst that could happen is that I get rejected, right? 😉😂

    The 60% pass mark claim is interesting. Maybe the Bulgarian med school exams are not 50% more difficult, but 50% easier. So a 40% in UK is same as 60% in Bulgaria.
    Anyway, I'd rather have a UK doctor at 40% than a Bulgarian doctor at 60%.
    Also, unless Pelumi has done a UK equivalent exam it's not fair to claim Bulgarian exams are 50% more difficult.

    • @chibuchilivingstone1962
      @chibuchilivingstone1962 Před 2 lety +17

      Any doctor that practices in the UK will be certified by the GMC so will therefore practice at a high level no matter where they graduate from. I know a lot of students who found it difficult getting into a UK medical school but were absolutely brilliant medical students. Its one thing getting in but a different thing being a student.

    • @stakkerhmnd
      @stakkerhmnd Před 2 lety

      @@chibuchilivingstone1962 Yes, I know about GMC certification. What about all the cases of foreign qualified where the system has failed badly? Many cases reported. I don't know how the GMC certify some doctors as they can't even speak basic English. This doesn't apply in this case I know, but your point about GMC certifying foreign doctors doesn't give me much confidence.
      "at a high level" - what does this mean? Does it mean Bulgarian med schools are 50% more difficult? Which was the point I was making.
      "I know a lot of students etc... etc... " is irrelevant to the point. As is your opinion about them being "brilliant". I think I'd rather not rely on your opinion.

      Great points you make man, I understand your concern and perspective. First ill prefix by saying I have an honours degree in biomedical sciences from Glasgow so I believe I have a decent idea when comparing. The content to which my medical peers study in the UK is literally the same as what we get here, I believe here with exams what they look for is an overarching understanding with topics rather than regurgitating notes form a textbook, if that makes sense? I think exams are hard no matter where you study, but when comparing my pre clinical years to what my biomedical degree ( which are very similar and almost identical) I would give Bulgaria the slight edge in difficulty, when it comes to examinations. hope that helps

    • @stakkerhmnd
      @stakkerhmnd Před 2 lety +2

      @@pelumidaniel734 Hi Pelumi, thanks for understanding my points. Biomedical Sciences degrees are a good entry to studying medicine. From what I've seen of those who have taken this route I'd say they bring a lot more when undertaking a Med degree. I assume Biomed grads still usually start in the 1st year of a Med degree and don't miss the first year. It's a fair point you make. I'd still say that unless you've gone through both systems it's not possible to be so sure. Not saying Bulgaria is an "easy ticket/route", but I am saying it isn't 50% more difficult than a UK Med degree.
      Regurgitating from a textbook? I'm totally and entirely with you on this point about UK Med schools. It's one of my main criticisms of the UK system. It makes for bad doctors IMHO. There are definitely better ways. Maybe you've just convinced me that Bulgaria/other systems are better? It's a very powerful point you make. I'd go further and say that UK Med schools reject applicants who got AAB, but who would make *superb* doctors. And let in AAA students who make mediocre doctors. So the AABs have to go abroad.
      I know a dentist from King's College who rates some non-UK dentistry schools as being superior in teaching and outlook than King's.
      I won't disagree with your knowledge about Bulgaria having the edge over UK in difficulty for Biomed. You know your stuff. I can see that being true as I don't particularly rate UK Med schools as being anything amazing. They let plenty of utter garbage through who really shouldn't be allowed anywhere near patients and are in the profession for all the wrong reasons. You seem genuinely passionate about wanting to be a doctor. Can't say that about a lot of UK Med school students.

      The bulgarian doctor still has to do the same UKMLE test as the UK doctor to practice here
