Like it or not, NHL back to ATL is happening. Since 2011, ATL area population has grown 1.6million and still exploding in growth. The new 18k+ capacity stadium project on the north side suburbs (The Gathering) is moving ahead nicely & as planned. The land has been cleared and the construction will begin in Fall 2024. I predict it will be announced in 2025 and the full return for a new team in ATL area will take place in 2026 or 2027
A lot of people are trying to say that it's going to fail, I disagree. As you said, Atlanta has grown quite a bit since 2011 and is still growing, the NHL would be foolish not to place a new franchise in a market like Atlanta.

The conspiracy theory in me says Gary Bettman is *secretly* manipulating the burbs to build a new arena for a Thrashers 2.0! I find it odd how you guys mention hockey, but never bring up Hawks basketball and the 24 year old arena they play in. And there was that stupid rumor recently about the NHL going to 34 with Atlanta and Houston. Very fishy indeed. If true, I hope the Hawks beat the NHL to that new building first! Then we'll see if the NHL is stupid enough to put hockey back in an arena that will most certainly be over 25 by the time another hockey team shows up!
Interesting!! Developers and Forsyth County government are considering building a new arena in hopes of attracting a NHL franchise. This is not about racism. It's about racial demographics and business. There are probably more White Georgians who live outside of Atlanta; and, before the Truist stadium was built for the Atlanta Braves, White Georgians would have had to travel into downtown Atlanta to the former Turner field to see a Braves game or to the State Farms Arena or Mercedes Benz stadium for a concert. Atlanta has had two NHL teams named the Atlanta Thrashers (1999-2011) and Atlanta Flames until 1980. But, by building a new arena in Forsyth County, the downtown Atlanta arena and stadium will have a new competitor for ticket revenue. If you can go to Cobb county or Forsyth County to see Metallica, Joel Osteen, or Disney on Ice then why would you travel to downtown Atlanta.

Expand the league!! Add Salt Lake and Houston to the Western Conference. Add Quebec City and Atlanta to the Eastern Conference!!! Bring back the Thrashers. When the Thrashers take the ice play the song, "The Boys Are Back In Town" by Thin Lizzy!!!

No, it wasn't a flop. Atlanta outsold Chicago 11 of 19 NHL seasons. It was ownership issues both times.

It is undeveloped land. South Forsyth was rural until around the late 90s. This is one of the few large lots left to be developed.
