  • Lightweight, comfortable and durable don't normally go together. inov-8 have recently updated their Roclite series boots to try to achieve exactly that. Is it possible? We visited them in the Lake District to find out and also hiked the footpaths under Helvellyn to test the new Roclite Pro G 400 GTX V2 and the Roclite G345 GTX V2.

I just bought them and they fit so perfectly. Incredibly light to the other hiking boots I’ve tried. I am a size 9.5 US and bought 10.5 US, which makes the front very spacious but still comfortable when tighten down

Very helpful video. I will definitely be buying a pair this week when I come to the Lake District. I have a pair of the original 400s which I wore yesterday straight out of the box on a 4 hour walk with no problem at all - very comfortable. I bought a pair of La Sportiva boots last year which are crippling me even if I strap up my feet before I set off. No plasters needed at all with the 400s. Wish I'd tried Innov8 boots before. Best of all, Innov8 boots are vegan

We're glad to hear you got on well with the original 400s. You'll be pleased to know we've still got a good range of both the Roclite boots and shoes online and in-store.
Here are the locations of our stores if you wanted to try them on: www.ellis-brigham.com/shops
Or you can find them online here: www.ellis-brigham.com/factfinder/result/?type=search&query=roclite

I bought the original 400s in the spring with the intention of doing the Anoach eagach ridge with fresh grippy soles.
Absolutely love them and will definitely get the V2 when I've worn these ones out.

@@alistairthow1384 Glad to hear it! inov-8 have always produced some of the best grip out there and if you combine that with a lightweight and comfortable shoe, you're on to a winner!

Hi Alain, here is some information from inov8 that can hopefully answer your question:
Roclite Pro G 400 V2 is measured as a Grade 4 on their 1-5 width scale (1 being the narrowest and 5 the widest). This measurement is taken across the width of the toe box. Being a Grade 4, this boot sits towards the wider end of their width fit scale, giving room for the toes and extra comfort.
Roclite G 345 V2 is measured as a Grade 3 on their 1-5 width scale (1 being the narrowest and 5 the widest). This measurement is taken across the width of the toe box. Being a Grade 3, this boot sits in the middle of our width fit scale, giving room for the toes while maintaining a closer-fit feel that helps with agility over technical terrain.
Also, the Roclite G 345 V2 has a tighter-weave upper material compared to the previous Roclite 345, so will likely feel more snug on the foot.

How do the Roclite Pro G 400 V2 compare to the RocFly G 390? For which purposes is one or the other better?

      Thanks for the comment @blackpanther5286
The Roclite Pro G 400 GTX V2 is inov-8’s most rugged hiking boot. It’s a technical boot that feels very stable considering its light weight. With a very grippy 6mm tread on the sole unit, and featuring a GORE-TEX lining, this boot is designed for hiking in all weathers and all terrains. For instance they’d be a great choice for hill walking in the Lake District.
The RocFly G 390 is designed for faster-paced hiking on less technical ground. They have slightly more of a trainer fit and feel. The design inspiration was originally for long distance warm weather hikers, needing comfort on relatively smooth trails (hence a shallower 4mm tread on the outsole). A non-waterproof version is available if you’re after summer breathability.
To summarise, the Roclite Pro G 400 GTX V2 is the best bet for more demanding terrain, while the RocFly G 390 is designed for smoother trails.
If you need any further information, please get in touch.
