Once get that tuning right this thing is just a fun one to play. Rip Dusty Hill that was a shocker right there I knew his hip wasn't looking too good I seen some footage from Mount pleasant Michigan when they were playing with thorogood and John fogerty. I know they canceled a bunch of dates he went home to Houston but unfortunately passed away in his sleep
I just started playing guitar again at the ripe age of 40. Hadn’t played since I was prob 15 or 16. I’m so glad I found your videos. I’m a huge fan of the same kind of music and I just wanted to say thank you for all your amazing videos and knowledge you share. Your guitar playing is amazing and choice of songs is spot on. Thank you for showing me some pointers and giving me something to aspire to. Rock on 🤘🏼
This great song has been running around in my head for awhile. So I am pleased to see , not only do you do it , but once again you nail it. Thank you James.
You've no idea just how big the grin on my face was when I saw this lesson pop up on my feed - and it's been there for hours now! Thank you so much, James.
Two awesome Zeppelin lessons at the same time! James James has been on fire the past few months. You are my go to channel. Thanks for your help. My wife thanks you too because she gets to listen to me play something new!
Sure beats the days of putting the needle back, putting the needle back, putting the needle back......you are generally one of the more accurate ones out there, I reference your channel often......your patience is admirable, thanks for what you do!
James your channel/Music selection/ guitar playing/ and explanations are all a total Boon to me who's played since about 1997 and still turned on by learning these classics, You Have the LOT ...Cheers
Man, that Guild sounds like it's doing some crazy vibrations in that tuning! Bet it feels like a living, breathing thing when you play this song! Big thanks for the lesson)
How many different tunings does Mr. Page need?. He's driving us crazy with having to retune and have additional guitars lying around to accomodate learning his stuff. Thanks!
In your old life as "privetricker" you played this in C-G-C-G-C-E. Changes shapes quite a lot. Just wondering which you find sounds better? They both sound great. Thanks JJ as always
Oops, have to relearn this now. I learned this tune six years ago using your video in the old channel in Open C tuning. :D BTW, what's your opinion on the Bombay Orchestra version of Friends?
I don't find that A to be a problem at all. The intro sounds huge with the low open C and A fretted on 3. The only problem with that A is the part at 10:56, because I really want to retain the low C. My solution for those two chords is fretting A on 9 and 10 with G and C(known as B) strings on 11-10 and 12-12 accordingly. I.e. same notes as played in the video, but, higher up the neck which allows also fretting the A string without doing crazy hand stretches. Another option is to play to the two top strings as in the video, but add A fretted on 6 and 7 for those two chords accordingly. That also allows retaining the low C. But it adds new notes to the chords (minor and major 3rd), which somehow don't sound out of place. Perhaps they were even part of the original orchestration?
@jamesjames: you need to run some stats to see if your views have increased since you acquired that Guild D55. I'm a fan, but coming back for your Guild vids. An obsession.
Ummm... I think that I caught a mistake. You said that the tuning for this song was CACACE, but I'm hearing CACGCE as played. (The octave slides on strings 3 and 5 made it visually clear.)

Lot of lessons lately, thanks as always JJ
RIP Dusty Hill
This is a such a beautiful dark song.

I ruined a few records (no one uses that word very often anymore) that way.
Sounds amazing ! 👏

Great lesson, amazing and Excellent performance.
LOL -- Took me a few seconds... "Why the eff is he breaking down the theme from Friends?"
Excellent stuff, as per usual.
How many different tunings does Mr. Page need?. He's driving us crazy with having to retune and have additional guitars lying around to accomodate learning his stuff. Thanks!
Right? Just got through learning the rain song in DGCGCD then stop in here and I'm like "oh crap"
I wish I could afford to have decent acoustics around each in different tunings, but no way can I afford that!
Imagine how much music knowledge to create all this stuff in many different tunings
@@thetruthisoutthere8598 The Raing Song is one of the best to play, feels good, really amazing song
Need? 1 Use? Who knows?
Love that Guild!
A lot of fun to play. Did a cover of this one one day but I see evil youtube removed the music, tsss.
Well done!!
Thanks
Thanks!
Thank you , James , for ALL your videos. They kept
mea sane during this pandemic. God Bless.
Cool....thanks!

I prefer that way
Thank you James! 👍👍 Can’t wait to get this one down.
That guitar means business!
Nice job young man
Nice shirt 👍🏼
Love the tee. I love Gram Parsons. How do you feel about his discography from Burrito Bros - Gram Parsons/Emmylou? Stay safe out there friend!
Hi JJ. The tune of Friends in the unleaded version its the same?
Thanks and wonderfull lesson this was👍🎶🍻

Yo james, Dusty from Zz just died
Just saw it. RIP Dusty Hill.
Fuck man, so sad news...
ZZ Top was about to play in my home town and had to cancel because of his death. Rip
How in the world did you figure out the tuning ? Great lesson !
Love the sound of the strings so raw…. New ones ?
No, just a great sounding Guild.
If you learn to play it in the tuning (cacgce) you can go right into "Bron yr Aur" after you finish this. I think the two compliment each other well.
And then into Poor Tom.
And also into Most High (Page & Plant)
Please confirm the tuning. Is it CACACE?
Sorry, it's CACGCE. I'll note that in the video title.
Youre a good pilot....looking out for your crew ..(band)
And also Most High in this tuning
Just majic. Jimmy is king......

Yes, I'll add a note to the video title.
what a weird tuning, but I love it. Jimmy Page was genius with such unique ideas
What’s the tuning on the UNLEDDED VERSION as it sounds lower ?
It would be this tuning, perhaps with each string tuned lower. But these intervals, certainly.
@@jamesjames9275 Thanks James ⭐️🌞👍🏻 In that case I recon Jimmy Page used probably thick gauge strings for the UNLEDDED version 👍🏻🌞⭐️
Did you have to reintonate your guitar to play your low E down to C?
No. At least, you shouldn't have to.
Only if you plan on keeping the guitar tuned this way...short term will not affect.
This bron yr aur and Poor Tom all this tuning
Along with Most High
Jimmy is god
Isn't this song in DADGAG tuning James?
No. Jimmy occasionally used DADGAD (not DADGAG), but not on this one.
@@jamesjames9275 LOL I always make that mistake James, cheers.
