Today is the birthday of President John F. Kennedy, born in 1917. He said to his fellow Americans “ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country." - Zábava
I was just about to enjoy another evening listening to the Prairie Home Companion while cooking tea. I can remember listening to the show many years ago and wondering about this wonderland called Minnesota. I was enchanted.
Today, I just want to say thanks.
Garrison we miss you. I hope you are well. You have given us so much you deserve a rest but oh how we miss you. Take care friend.
Thank you for this edition of "The Writer's Almanac."
Thank you.
Yes, "Ask not what your county can do for you, ask what you can do for your country" so true!!
Thank God for GK. Didn't know he was still with us. Real genus with a lot to say; we should listen.
Thank you today and always for this show. I always loved it and will never forget it. Thank you
Thank you for this edition of TWA. John Fitzgerald Kennedy was taken from us, by his own people, the day before my 8th birthday. I remember it like yesterday. I have visited his tomb many times, and read the many "quotes" etched in stone; I have contemplated many times his reminder that we must reach for the stars (because it is hard) and asked myself many times what I might do for my country.
Thank you for honoring JFK's birthday this fine morning; it is well to remember our finest on the day of their birth!

Thank You Man.
Good morning Mr. Keillor, are there any more coming to our waiting minds? I sure hope so. Your voice starts my day with a calmness I've grown accustomed to. Thank you for the many years of entertainment. I sure do miss PHC. Thankfully I can access your show here on CZcams. I am now sending you big hugs and a firm handshake. Thank you my brotha from anotha motha! Peace Always.
Stunning and beautiful all the way through. A wizard, a true star, that is our GK. 😘
Glad I found this, Much appreciated!!
Until we are sick we understand not
I remember this program on WCMU when I was younger.
Bravo.
3:17 Oh, but help me to understand without being sick - just a request.
I have missed you!
Welcome Back!!
Will PHC please post the musical performances from the show - I know those vids were taken down and they are true gems
Where have you gone? 😳
Having difficulty receiving Writer's Almanac for last 2 days
For all of those wondering what happened to your daily dose of The Writer's Almanac, here is the info I received in an email on May 24th:
The Writer's Almanac with Garrison Keillor
WELCOME TO SUBSTACK and the anniversary editions of THE WRITER'S ALMANAC

Dear Reader,
As you likely know, The Writer’s Almanac has ended as a podcast and as a radio program. We thank our listeners for nearly 30 years of support - the 25 years that the show ran on public radio and the podcast version since 2018.
It is indeed the end of an era, and we are truly sorry about that. But here’s the good news: you will now be able to access Writer’s Almanac “anniversary editions” on Substack.
These versions feature the historical highlights from the particular date years ago, and each will have a link to the audio of the poem for the day. Note: these will be presented as they were way back when - not updated, edited, or corrected.
For various reasons we are also transitioning from the previous TWA newsletter platform on MailChimp. So welcome to Substack, our new newsletter platform, and a new path to repeats of TWA highlights and daily poems. Enjoy - again.
Sincerely,
Prairie Home Productions
P.S. You will start receiving updates right here in your inbox. You can also log in to the website to read the full archives and other posts as they are published. If you do not find them, please check your spam or junk mail.
Here is the link to Substack where you can become either a free or paid subscriber: thewritersalmanac.substack.com/
And here is the link to The Writer’s Almanac home page where you can read & listen to the archived versions: www.garrisonkeillor.com/radio/
Remember, donations are always welcome :)
Enjoy!
That sucks. It seems like it wouldn’t be that hard to make.
Sad 😔
That's truly sad. I remember I would listen to
The Writer's Almanac early at dawn (4:00am)
on the radio. 📻😞
His voice is still one of the best. 🥇🏆
May 29 was the last Writer’s Almanac?????
Where are you? 3days?
Why aren’t new episodes being posted?
PROFILES IN COURAGE was co-written by Ted Sorensen.
Most likely ghost written by Ted Sorensen.
@@robertfischer1041 I had originally stated it that strongly, but checking the Wikipedia entry on the book, decided to reduce my assertion.
Wikipedia isn’t always the most reliable source. There’s also the story that old Joe Kennedy paid off all the booksellers to have his son’s book prominently displayed in the front windows and as you entered the store in every major bookstore in the country. Garrison mentioned the 1960 election was the closest of the 20th century, and many believe the most crooked. Mayor Daley’s political machine delivered Illinois that clinched it for the Democrats.
What happened to Monday, May 30, 2022? I hope everything is ok.
Yeah what's going on? I'm not getting any new ones in my feed. Googled his name and nothing immediately is being addressed.
@@sitnstill4now They are posting them still on his website, but after Sunday they have all been strait reposts from years past. I hope Garrison is well.
I see he did an interview with CBS Sunday Morning 2 weeks ago. Does it stem from that?
@@sitnstill4now I wondered the same thing…
Where is Garrison?
what happened? no more WA on youtube?
Is he gone?
Hope You are okay.
This must be the Last
Garrison, are you okay?
