The performance Gulden with 900m gained was immense. It reminded me of Peter Matera in the 1992 semi final - 30 kicks, 5 handballs and 2 goals. Those plus the number of bounces would easily have cracked the 1km easily
I'm a North supporter. I think their defence is actually really improved with Comben back there. Hopefully Logue can help out more, but Kallan Dawson was already doing a decent job, who I think is who logue will push out of the team. The big difference the last few weeks though, has been the addition of Brynn Teakle taking a big defender off Larkey and Zurhaar, giving Zurhaar the ability to run around a bit more and not have to play as a second tall.
Idea for bye round: AFL has a weekend off. But the grand finalists from the previous year from the WAFL, VFL, SANFL, QAFL TasFL, etc all meet up for a footy festival in a single city (on a rotation basis) and play a few games like a Champions League. Add in 2 All-Star AFL teams and you'd get some decent viewership. Play Thursday thru to Sunday and have a Final game Sunday arvo.
How about not paying a free kick for a dangerous tackle unless there is a serious concussion and the play stops? But players can still be referred to the tribunal and suspended for them. This would take away any need to exaggerate impact and players may even try and brace to protect their own heads when being tackled.
A lot of forwards are staging for frees in every game & every teams are doing it . Plus there are some doing it constantly each quarter. There are enough cameras watching all the plays so the MRO should be acting on it harder on it .
If the AFL want to stamp out staging, but a free kick is paid for the head on the ground. HIA immediately + a 6 week suspension. Staging will be gone instantly.
