  • Beware manga spoilers in this video!
In the world of Jujutsu Kaisen cursed techniques are easily one of the most important aspects of a character. They’re the main method of fighting and throughout the story many fans have gotten the idea that being stuck with a bad cursed technique means you’re essentially doomed as a sorcerer. However I don’t quite think that that is the case and in this video I’ll be going over how & why cursed techniques aren’t the actual problem.

I also think that there is something to be said about the creativity aspect of using sorcery. Wasn't the whole of the upper class of Jujutsu society about how things could only work or be taught in a certain way? It would make sense then that people who let themselves 'flow freely' and embrace new ideas and ways to manipulate cursed energy (Hakkari's IDG, Higaruma's Judgeman, Reggie's Receipts, etc) are the ones that are most often seen as special grade. It's also ironic that the 'traditional' Zen'in family gets undone because they clung to those values.

    .
    .
    .
Sukuna's usage of ten shadows really shows how megumi's rigidity was holding him back, focusing on fluidity and The shikigami as extensions of the shadow as opposed to creatures created way more versatility. We see in the culling games arc early on and in chimera shadow garden, megumi starting to realise this aspect, hiding in shadows focusing on fluidity to increase his potential.

I realized this when seeing the Zenin massacre. They’re family is a perfect example and shows a lot of political world. I realized that the jujutsu world put a lot of importance or being innately strong through your curse techniques. Meaning that if your technique isn’t strong in itself then you aren’t considered strong.
Which is why I think the modern sorcerers are so weak but when we look at the dead sorcerers. They’re all specialists within they’re own techniques. Specifically Sukuna of course. Which is why I think they’re able to figure out others techniques so easily bc they’re experienced in examining they’re own and pushing the limits. I compare to one piece how one devil fruit isn’t really weak ever. It’s how you use it.
But with jujutsu it often takes real battles and training that force you to think out of the box on the fly. Like how Gojo. Knew about red but only awakened it when he was literally experiencing death itself. He was experiencing the moment of which the technique would be need. He knew how it felt so he now understands how the technique should feel or should be applied down to the cell so he would heal himself
I think that’s why Kenjaku and Sukana love the heion period so much. It was an explosion of curse energy knowledge and creative thinking.
On the geto stance. I agree. I saw a video that basically said. He was too focused on being a by the books duty bound sorcerer relying solely on his technique for a sense of strength. His duty being eliminate curses. He gets depressed when he fails. Thus causes him to instead of trying to become stronger like gojo. And believing his crush technique is terrible. He focus more on how to easier eliminate curse spirits from the source and fulfill his duty bout ideology while expressing his hate for human due to them being the root of curse energy and the cause of his own major failure.

      I just remembered:
Mai would, depending on range and shielding, likely suffer extreme radiation poisoning.
This however wouldn't necessarily be that deadly, if she can find a reverse cursed technique user soon after.
This is because the early stages of radiation poisoning can likely be healed through the use of reverse cursed technique.
Radiation poisoning works by damaging the cells heavily enough as to trigger their self-destruct function.
So, it could be argued that reverse curse can reverse the damage to the cells, preventing the later stages of radiation poisoning from occurring.
Also: Since radiation exposure itself only generates negligible amounts of radioactive material in the body, lasting effects would probably be non-existent.

One thing I find interesting is that Kusakabe doesn't have an innate technique, and yet he was able to reach 1st Grade. He's got a very diverse pool of knowledge about barrier techniques to make up for it, but the fact remains that even lacking an innate technique doesn't have to lock you out of being a successful sorcerer. If he applied himself, Ijichi might have been able to attain a similar feat.
I'm hoping that the deaths of Mai and Kokichi will have inspired Momo and Miwa to start applying themselves more. The crazy thing about Momo is that she would be a hard counter to Toji, if she can choose a battlefield with no way to let him leap up to her (assuming she's using the broom and can manipulate multiple cursed tools) by just taking whatever he pulls out of his arsenal and then using it against him. A forest or a crowded city would give Toji ways to reach her, but in an open field, she might just be able to beat him.
Among everything else you mentioned, one of the things I love about Jujutsu Kaisen's power system is that it also allows for the total chaos and unpredictable outcomes of real fights. Sometimes you get a matchup between two masters who can go all fifteen rounds without giving in, like what we're seeing in the manga right now. And sometimes the stars align, and someone with a very specific set of skills can overcome an opponent who's much stronger on paper if they apply themselves and use every advantage at their disposal - including a little luck.

Mai was able to create the weapon because of the amp that a sorcerer gets on the verge of death.
At the moment of death, even a normal person gets a sudden surge of cursed energy. With this, dying sorcerers are able to "curse" other people at the moment of death.
But with Mai, instead of cursing her father who beat her. She chose to bless her sister with a great weapon. But she did trust her sister with something. A huge task. She cursed her to "Destroy everything." It's also important to mention, that even Yorozu with the same CT couldn't create cursed weapons.
But I do believe Yorozu did a similar act with Sukuna during her moment of death.

  • @uranusuranus144
    @uranusuranus144 Před 11 měsíci +10

I really like the idea that what is holding a sorcerer back from being strong is their mindset. For example, mai and Yorozu. Yorozu was sly, cocky but incrediby confident and fearless, obsessing over a goal, no matter how sussy that goal was.
We also have Maki. Before her fight with cursed spirit Naoya, she actually wasn't as strong as Toji but once she had achieved the state of mental freedom where she learned to let go of all her tensions and bad past, she SKY ROCKETED in strength, easily avoiding Cursed Naoya and slicing him up.
If we look at someone like Toge and Yuta, when Yuta uses cursed speech he does it with ease where as Toge clearly struggles at times. We dont know much about Toge but if he was to practise and train more and gain more confidence, I'm sure that he could reach levels of special grade.
The thing is, literally everyone is capable of reaching the levels of special grade, no matter the cursed technique. With enough training and the right mindset, people can achieve high supplies of cursed energy, speed, strength and many other factors.

For Mimiko and Nanako we really don't know anything about both of their techniques but, well first of all they are twins, meaning that they are cursed in some way so there is that, but they seem to be tied to common horror tropes with the camera trapping your soul and the voodoo doll. But think about it, Nanako can apparently teleport with her camera, can she transport people to a place she took a photo of ? It's pretty powerful. We also know she can use her camera to attack in some way, meaning she may have a way to link peoples to still images, either to trap them or idk, using the common horror mythos as reference, she may be able to "trap someone's soul in a photo" whatever that means. For Mimiko, we know she can hang peoples and we know she use a doll, can she link someone to her doll and when she kill her doll it affect her target ? If her power is to link people to object so she can transfer something from that object to her target, it can be really powerful, and that would make sense since her sister's power is basically the inverse (to transfer someone to an object).

Jujutsu is all about negativity. Strife. Conflict. Hatred. A battle between two sorcerers is basically them trying to impose their feelings onto one another. A sorcerer’s strength is based around creativity, yes, but it’s the SOURCE of the energy that’s important. It’s why Kenjaku tells Yuji “I have high hopes for you,” when they first meet - since Kenny is the one who made a seemingly indestructible vessel, used as a center point in this world of misery. And Yuji doesn’t even have a technique yet.

Our hair is almost entirely made of keratin. The same can be said for scales, claws, feathers, nails, horns, hooves, and the outer layer of skin among vertebrates. If the ability to control hair is linked to the "soul" than you can't control the objects mentioned above. If its simply because the material it's comprised of then that opens up a myriad of uses. If it's limited to your hair alone than you could weave your hair into a thin yet durable material and make a net of it. You could also take a single piece of hair and link it end to end with another piece, do that until you have the desired length. Hair is extremely durable for its width. If you could make it perfectly straight, with multiple linked end to end, you could use it as a needle to pierce your enemy through vital spots or tie them up with an almost invisible net. Hair also produces and is covered in a natural oil. Can you control that separately from the hair or is it just the hair.

She has much lower CE reserve than the average jujutsu sorcerer which limited how she was able to use her technique. No genius could make that ability feasible in a that wouldn't have a significant downside

I personally think that the power/ability system in JJK is the best out of any series I can think of. There’s not really any random power-ups, it’s understanding your innate abilities better. The only realistic hard limit to a sorcerer’s abilities is their creativity and their innate cursed energy reserves. And on top of this, you’ve got Heavenly Restriction, which basically creates a way for non-sorcerers to combat cursed spirits and sorcerers alike. The inclusion of historical sorcerers and abilities as well makes it super interesting, like the Six Eyes and Sukuna. This is without mentioning the Special-Grade cursed spirits that can be tamed or utilized by certain sorcerers, shikigami, and beings like Mahoraga.
Man, JJK is easily my favorite shonen and it isn’t even close. Everything’s just so cool, and I love that Yuji isn’t the strongest character and he likely never will be. A lot of shonens make their MCs the strongest for pure BS reasons (looking at you, Demon Slayer). Yuji is a small fish in an ocean, and his growth is due to better understanding his abilities. But he will never be as powerful as Gojo, Yuta, Hikari, Kenjaku, Yuki, Sukuna, etc. I love that.

      "not really any random powerups"
      Lol.
Maki's second awakening (literally 2 dudes jump out of the blue and train her in the span of an hour or so for her powerup), the whole concept of black flash (completely random despite sorcerers supposedly having godlike reflexes)

    • @aquatazer
      @aquatazer Před 5 měsíci

@@hoominbeeing in JJK, these reincarnated, older-era sorcerers are all over the place. Yuta fights multiple at once, Sukuna himself is a Heian-era sorcerer, etc. It makes sense to me that when Kamo and Maki are fighting Naoya, they’re with some random dudes and the one guy really likes sumo. So does Comedy Man, so it’s established in the series that there are people who literally live to do what they enjoy. Why wouldn’t he challenge someone he sees as fitting to a match if that’s what he loves doing?
That aside, Black Flash is completely balanced. It’s described as an extra-human force that doesn’t make decisions on who to bless with “The Sparks of Black,” hence why Mahito could use it against Todo and Itadori. It’s just based on pure luck and fighting instinct, I don’t understand how that’s a “random power-up” when it’s established in the series to be a literal entropic force.

How realistic this is would be irrelevant. Gege is the writer and decided to have that happen in the story
You're wrong about black flash. It occurs when a sorcerer applies CE a microsecond after hitting someone.
Based on this, it should not be random. Especially since we have characters that have supersonic reaction time.
Even if it is meant to be random, that just proves my point. It's a random power boost that comes out of nowhere

Controlling your hair could be OP too, developing it to the point you can control individual strands, reinforce them with cursed energy, and using them to multitask.
For instance, you use many nigh-indestructible and highly malleable hair strands to defend yourself in a perfect sphere-like defence (think Gaara from Naruto but with hair, not sand) and then you can use other individual strands to strike, strangle, grapple, or simply decapitate foes like using cheese wire. Suddenly it becomes very inconvenient to fight her from range, and fighting in close combat is practically a death sentence unless you already have a strong enough technique/energy to simply beat her outright.
    Just my thoughts on it.

2:11 to be fair, Yuta used it twice, once using a cursed tool made by the inumaki clan to give the command "die" and once using copy to give the command "don't move", therefore it's also possible that the "don't move" command isn't strong enough to damage the user significantly (as we've seen Inumaki use it without being injured) and the "die" command's self-damaging effect impacted the cursed tool itself, not yuta (especially since cursed tools aren't known to disintegrate upon use - ofc the megaphone might be an outlier but otherwise that may just be how powerful the command is - disintegrating the user)
Anyways, I hope we get more of Inumaki during the fight against kenjaku, I really want to see mastered cursed speech in action and Inumaki is just a great character that hasn't been explored enough to date.

One idea for the hair cursed technique: If it still works when the hair is cut off, some of the hair could be weaved into something for projectiles. I was also thinking how some techniques need certain concepts or technology to be fully understand. Like Nanako's photo technique would never be truly understood until the invention of the camera.
Their technique could have existed in the past but would have been utilize suboptimally.
Like maybe a ancient user would need to hand draw their opponents or teleport location to use the technique. Which would significantly reduce the speed at which it could be cast. Making effective offencive attacks of the technique near impossible other than maybe assassination.
Now imagine if that drawing version of the technique was passed down to Nanako and she wasn't creative so never tried using a camera. The technique could be stifled for generations. Just because it manifestated in the wrong time period.
(I think Gojo infinity might have been like this. since your understanding of mathematics is probably the biggest limit of the technique)

Hair control may be control of a specific cell type(living or dead or maybe even just cell control but she did not realize that because hair is the easiest to manipulate.) or keratin as that is what hair if made of. If you could control dead cells you could control all epidermal cells, and finger nails and such as well. If you could control keratin you would be able to harden your skin similar to choso's blood technique, but without the risk of blood clots(making it weaker tho due to lower risk as how that works in-unisverse.) If it is control of the eiptheial cells then you can control the epidermis and dermal cells as hair contains parts of both, and skin control sounds pretty broken kinda like mahito's technique but not as good but still a one-hit KO in some cases.

Just imagine cutting off pieces of hair and using them as projectiles or using each individual strand as a weapon to attack your opponent. If the technique extends to all body hair then you could turn the hair into armor or each time you get hit the hair on your body hurts your opponent back like the thorns enchantment in Minecraft.
I also think Mimiko's technique could be decent if she uses the rope as a sort of trap or uses the rope as a lasso to grab an opponent and hand them upside down by the leg or something especially if she can uses multiple and a domain expansion with a sure hit where you will be continually hanged by a noose and the strength and number of nooses able to be controlled can be increased.

But most importantly, Geto was a about to defeat Yuta and weaken Rika without a domain, it is that binding vow from Yuta that changed everything.
So I think even if he had a domain, he was never going to open it, similar to how Gojo does not mind opening his domain fast against curses since they can easily heal, meaning he can dictate the damage, while humans cannot.
