Not all these cars are 2013-2014. The Audi A4 B8 for example, was launched in 2008 and stopped production in 2011. The 3-Series was first introduced in 2011.
Yeah, it says "2013 A4" but the door says 2012...a 2012 model year, 2011 production. Like I pointed out before, it didn't deflect like many of the other vehicles.
BMW has proved from 2005 that the 3series is one of the safest cars on earth. But i like the Mazda's and Suzuki's way to bounce around and reduce the impact forces. The Audi is unacceptable
Chanel4211 Its a small overlap test. the most exigent angle, a lot of cars would perform badly in this specific angle. both audi and mazda would perform great in regular overlap or full head on.
We had a BMW 325is in the mid 1990's. Traded it in on a brand new Buick Regal in '96. Both were really well constructed cars. All watching these hundreds of Crash Tests show is that you don't want to get in a bad crash in ANY Car, whether rated "safe" or not. My daughter crashed a brand new KIA in 2002 and it remained intact and the restraints and Airbag worked flawlessly. People don't think of the little KIA Spectra or Sephia as particularly safe but hers was. She is now a 34 year old school teacher with 3 kids and not a sad memory. Thanks to the Safety Engineers at KIA!
Settore Nord The Audi didn't do bad. The only thing that I saw wrong was the head go in-between the two air-bags. What set it apart was that the head didn't have a counter and whip back towards the head rest. The four ringed owner would live on.
wilhelm Haeusler Im not saying the BMW didn't do good. In this situation the BMW did better than the Audi! But keep in mind how I said situation and in this situation the BMW prevailed; maybe the Audi would do better in a different situation?

In FORD factories. Mazda's sold in the US are just looking like originals, plastics in those are crappy, fittings are bad, and engines are from Ford. Check Euro NCAP tests of Mazda 6 (they use ones sold to EU [which are made in Japan]) totally different cars even though they look the same.
I think it's to replicate a driver's side to driver's side impact with another vehicle. I don't know where these crash tests were conducted, but here in Britain and Europe Euro NCAP use a 40% overlap.
@@idontknowwhattoputhere. Volvo didn had poor headlights... The XC90 got Acceptable and the S90 got Good with options, you think Volvo is not because they didn earn a top safety pick? They didn even get tested for passenger small overlap protection
BMW Rules! All the cars during impact compressed up to the middle of the doors unlike BMW's only up to the end of the bonnet line. Secondly all CTDummies did not hit the center of the steering wheel airbag except the BMW spot on target which adds more to safety! I'm so glad and blessed to drive a BMW (E60 540i V8 Beast)!
See how performs the Volvo (all models). It dodges the pole. Thus the impact is much lesser, it didn't stop at all. The Volvo people have a lot of advantage over the rest of the brands.
If you look again, the occupant head slid off the airbag, and into the side of the IP and door, even before the airbag had fully inflated in that area. BMW sucked, as did they all. They all had driver/passenger doors opening, or even flying off. How these cars can be 5* NCAP rated is beyond me. Ford Fiesta and the such like perform better. Poor Show BM and Audi... very poor show.
It is a bit more complicated. The important fact is the absorption of energy on impact through the deformation of the car around the cockpit. The dummies have not been so stirred in the BMW or Suzuki. We can note, that the absorption of BMW occurs more frontally, where Suzuki deflects an amount of energy. A full frontal impact is more tolerable for human well seated. Cars of this test are still amazing compared to those aged fifteen years.

i have the same audi like this one...but bmw is the best in this crash test... airbag uder the steering w. for legs is a good idea and the side one put the head in the center for the best results, well done bmw!
Ratings 2012 Audi A4 shows good protection on chest head and neck and lower leg foot and shows poor protection safety cage thigh and the restraints kinematics that applies to 2009-16 models the footwell was pushed 28 cm and the panel went 25-28 and the steering wheel pushed 13 cm to the driver and overall rating is poor The performance of the BMW F30 2012-2016 the footrest was pushed in toward the driver 40 cm, while the instrument panel intruded as much as 16 cm. The dummy’s head loaded the frontal airbag which stayed in front of the dummy until rebound. However, the steering column moved upward 16 cm, resulting in little airbag cushioning for the chest. Additionally, the seat belt allowed excessive forward excursion of the dummy’s head and torso. The side curtain airbag deployed but does not have sufficient forward coverage to protect the head from contact with side structure and outside objects. The restraints and the dummy kinematics were low which is acceptable protection. The lower leg foot was poor. The chest, hip, head and neck are good but its rating is marginal. The Suzuki shows Good ratings all body parts were all good. The driver space was maintained well, with maximum intrusion of the lower interior below 15 cm and maximum intrusion of the upper interior of 6 cm. Plus The dummy’s head barely contacted the frontal airbag before sliding off the left side and leaving the head vulnerable to contact with forward side structure. The side curtain airbag deployed but does not have sufficient forward coverage to protect the head from contact with forward side structure and outside objects. The side torso airbag also deployed. The Malibu for 2012-2013 showed marginal
A4 was really bad. The b pilar bent so much but at least the steering wheel stayed straight unlike the others. And then you remember this a4 is a 2008 model, almost a 10 years old design in security. Small overlap test didn't exist at that time. That is why the audi performed badly.
SIMcityplayer2002 I call BS on that, it's only a proof that manufacturers make their cars just so they pass these tests without looking into real life situations. You can see these cost cuttings at BMW, the car smashes right into the barrier without any intention to break into side and slide along rather than just smash right on the wall. Japanese cars on the other hand were built to pass these tests even if they weren't required to do so. That really says something. Only European manufacturer that actually passed this test for me is Volvo, these cars are a real benchmark.
emsicz Are you f-ing kidding?! The BMW protected its driver the best of all these cars. It's passenger cell and A pillar held up the best by far and its steering wheel air bag was not knocked off center, like the others.
demoskunk Elaborate. These tests are conducted at low speeds. Should the accident happen in higher speed, passenger would've been injured, or killed, because the car goes into the wall. Mazda, on the other hand, slides around it. The deceleration is a major factor here and while BMW might have tougher shell, it won't hold against high speed collision and before mentioned deceleration will rip organs apart, while in a car that slides around the obstacle, the body does not suffer from such extreme forces. That being said, I've had E60, E61 and E91, all new and fully loaded, and they were crap. These cars are made to sell, not to serve, they've spent 6 months out of a year in a shop on warranty repairs. I wouldn't trust with my life to BMW anymore.
+NotMyName Name The newer is 2015 so 7 years of poor safety, maybe B7/B6 model has much more stronger A pillar section on which depends all angle crashes.
That is one of the reasons to drive VOLVO! The BMW front wheel enters the cabin, you can't see what happened to the legs of the driver. Watch some VOLVO Crash tests, its amazing how smart the materials react! And because of that VOLVOS are heavier.
+Lyndon Bishop I think you next to nothing about cars. You must understand well what you see in the impact, how modern cars work and read the analysis. The BMW got a poor rating, because there was a 40cm footwell intrusion. So, well done? And these partial impacts sometimes "seem" bad for certain section of the car, because they affect the side constructions of the car.
I've noticed that in 99% of these tests that IF the Driver Dummy leaned about 6-8 inches to his right he would have hit the Airbag dead center and probably not been seriously injured. So, right before impact, lean a bit to your right. It might save your Life!
Michael Frassi Are you serious! The dummy nearly lost its head from the door coming flying off the Mazda because there was no side air bags my honest reaction was "holy F$%K" when I watch the Mazda one. BMW would appear to be the best!
Marcelo F. Kawas I don't think the side air-bag is the reason caused the Mazda performed poorly. The A pillar is bended and door is disintegrated....The passenger compartment must not be touched regardless kinds of test are. Similar thing happened when they tested VW passat CC, the door came off completely. On the other hand, BMW 3 series and Volvo held in good.
I was in an accident with a 2013 Mazda 6, 9 days after I bought it. $10,300 damage, airbags didn't deploy. I still don't think it's right to this day. I hit a car that turned left in front of me in an intersection. I was doing about 60-65 km/h. All the impact was on the right front. Completely totaled the right front, but again, the airbags didn't go off. After the initial impact, I had no steering and hit head on with another car in the other lane. Both vehicles had their airbag go off (late model Saturns).
modern airbags only go off if they are needed because otherwise they increase injury risks. if the passenger seat isn't used, the airbag there doesn't go off either.
all of you fools saying the BMW did the best are just that, fools... the BMW got a poor rating as did many BM's up until 2014+. The 2012 (2009-2013) MAZDA6 got an acceptable rating
The older Volvo models (like the S90) didn't have any trouble with the new small overlap crashtest. They did just pass, while designed before the test was introduced.
The Audi is a deathtrap! Not only the front got crumbled, but the interior got mashed too. I am a Volvonerd, so watch this type of crashtest with a S80, XC90 and XC60. And remember these Volvo models are a few years older than crappy Audi, but much more safer!
Sweden is the only country with safety in mind than any other brands. Toyota is full of crap. They had too call in millions of cars becuse the brakes and airbags didn't work. So the last thing Toyota should brag about is safety. They don't have the same history, experience and knowledge of safety like Volvo and Saab. I really hate asian cars. They always try to brainwash people that safe cars doesn't have to be expensive. You can't put a price on safety. So people should think twice, and not think with their wallet.
Ghandi Boi So only those who can afford safety are entitled to it? Biggest load of crap I've ever heard. I'm a Lexus tech (division of Toyota) and I can tell you we have NEVER heard of brakes or airbags failing on Toyota vehicles. YES there are a few models with recalled Takata airbags, but that is a widespread problem at the moment. Toyota/Lexus/Scion has one of the HIGHEST quality control standards in the industry and corporate recalls defective parts for further investigation all the time. Just so you're aware, FMVSS 105 (established in 1967) requires that ALL braking systems use a tandem master cylinder with at least TWO hydraulic circuits completely independent of one-another. In case of hydraulic/braking failure in one circuit, the other circuit will operate normally. If Toyota/Lexus/Scion had a service campaign recalling MILLIONS of vehicles for airbag/braking issues as you claim, I'm sure the Toyota Technical Information System would have a recall/TSB reference (which it doesn't). Not saying you should buy a Toyota, but you DEFINITELY don't have to spend luxury car money to get a safe, reliable vehicle.
BearsDkills your gay Drowhawk Toyotas has called in millions of Toyotas becuse of the fail of breaksystems. Do you think a car i safe with broken brakes? You've couldn't have missed this, since it was on the news...
Yeah that Audi wasn't designed to cope well with the New small overlap crash test. The BMW was designed to cope with it and that's why it faired better. The upcoming 2016 Audi A4 will be designed from the ground up to cope with this new crash test.
This crash when between vehicles does not actually happen like this. Usually the two cars will push each other away. Only if more than 30% of the front ends match up will they actually stay together.
there were cool 5 sedans that i like in this video 2012 audi a4, 2012 bmw 328i, 2012 mazda 6, 2013 chevrolet malibu and the 2012 suzuki kizashi like like the 2012 mazda 6 and the 2013 chevrolet malibu and I wish the only car they would't feature in the video is the 2012 bmw 328i after the 2012 audi a4 I wish the vehicle that they should've added in the video after the 2012 audi a4 should've been a 2012 kia optima and I wish they would've added one more vehicle the 2012 dodge avenger after the 2012 suzuki kizashi and one more thing I found out what that cool instrumental song was strange by iammanolis album was things we didn't say but what year was the song released.
its crazy how you more expensive cars wont protect you in a crash like this at 30-40 mph. You could be seriously injured or killed due to someone else driving over the 2 solid line on the road.
I think after this crash tests if the car is not safe probably will be sent back to improve safety issues. :-? I mean that should be the best way to proceed.
i laugh at those who say how much better and cheaper there Chinese cars are. When it really comes down to it you get what you pay for. German engineering is the future.
You would say that. That's why BMW is investing heavily in the BRITISH safety centres, as are Merc and You name it. Britain is at the centre of car safety development, and always has been... even Ford killed people to get the ideas and implement them in USA. Then again, what would I know?
other thing in this video is very important and thats the traction control on BMW and AUDi that it prevented them from sliding to the side and crashing to other cars or objects.
it appears if you want to survive this type of crash you need a Volvo,Acura ((I have both)) or surprisingly A Suzuki??? I wonder if the Kizashi is a good commuter im looking to buy a used car for a backup...
Zenedar Minotauro I believe in the XC90 as one saved my life. long story short I got clipped on a freeway off ramp by some guys in a hurry to merge. this steep off ramp was covered in black ice. my Volvo swung the back end out but quickly regained control. the truck behind me didn't and plowed us both into a drainage ditch. my Volvo locked the seatbelt and turned in self into a burrito deploying 12 airbags. the guy behind me wasn't so lucky he lived but he was pretty banged up. Because he rear ended me my Volvo also slowed him down as well. Ford weakened the Volvo brand before selling them. but safety is still a hallmark of Volvo.
I got a kizashi and it is good. It is a reliable and sturdy vehicle. The AWD version is also good in the winter. The only problem is that it is not as quite as it's competitors such as a camry.
+cefalloid Good point I didn't even notice that. Although I'm pretty sure the group that performed these test called the A4 " one of the worst performing vehicles they tested ".
+cefalloid No, that's not true. The wheel doesn't get to the legs, BMW has a lot of space between the leg comparment and the wheelarches, same as any RWD car, because the front wheels are pushed forward. You really think it would get a good score if it led to serious leg injuries. Do any of you internet know it alls think before writing? I'm asking you as an engineer.
+derbigpr500 so where it is written that it 'get a good score'? IHS rating for this particular car and this small overlap test is 'marginal' (poor). Look at the IHS page - it must be a reason for poor ratings, isn't it?
The BMW performed brilliantly there and with out a doubt that, and the Suzuki were the safest picks of the bunch. However if you watch the video of the Volvo XC60 doing this exact same test you'll see that nothing comes close to it.
I am not sure that is better in the Bimmy or the Audi than in the Chevy or Mazda (except for the lack of the curtain airbag for the driver), because the Delta V are smaller and even the EESs are smaller. Much more of the kinetic energy is dissipated in the crash and not in the movement afterwards. Is more likely to survive in the Chevy (which is strange and probably not on purpose).
Mazda and Audi only did bad in this test because when these models were first released for the 2009 model year the small offset crash test hadn't been implemented yet. They used to use a 40% offset test which was much easier to pass
Wow look at Mazda and Chevrolet! Did you guys see that? So coooool!! All the organs are flying in the space! I would rather ride that BMW or Volvo or KIA.
High quality cars always have better safety. You get what you pay for.

These cars are made to sell, not to serve, they've spent 6 months out of a year in a shop on warranty repairs. I wouldn't trust with my life to BMW anymore.
I heard Subaru makes some of the safest cars these days. Most Scoobies got 5-stars and did well on this small overlap crash.
i expected more from audi. and why didn't mazda's side airbags deploy?
Because its shit...
+allisonclaire Side airbag opening depends on specific boundary conditions. Probably some conditions were not met (signal form sensors or sth).
+NotMyName Name The newer is 2015 so 7 years of poor safety, maybe B7/B6 model has much more stronger A pillar section on which depends all angle crashes.
@@chicken4967 because its 2012 uneducated rat
HeyBlinks Yes and its still shit for 2012
BMW the big winner
That is one of the reasons to drive VOLVO! The BMW front wheel enters the cabin, you can't see what happened to the legs of the driver. Watch some VOLVO Crash tests, its amazing how smart the materials react! And because of that VOLVOS are heavier.
Or Mercedes.
Bmw driver will survived
I dont think so!
I want to see the legs of that driver... ;)
ZDEVIL74 czcams.com/video/KiFria6nCoc/video.htmlm4s
Mazda did better ! just immagine how the impact affects you when the car suddenly stops or the car continues to go without stopping there like that !
... English language didn't.
The suzuki rim enters the cabin at 3:08 lol
bmw wins that one. the audi door came open and so did mazda
BlackStar250874 u dont know shit . fuck head
+Lyndon Bishop Nice. How about learning some manners first. Then you would know something.
Btw, who pissed in your cornflakes?
BlackStar250874 yes your right
I've noticed that in 99% of these tests that IF the Driver Dummy leaned about 6-8 inches to his right he would have hit the Airbag dead center and probably not been seriously injured. So, right before impact, lean a bit to your right. It might save your Life!
the mazda 6 doesnt have a side impact airbag??
Una pregunta... Por qué no estrellan los autos de frente??
Porque siempre de un costado??
I'm pretty sure the guy in the Mazda broke his neck
I'm pretty sure the European Mazda 6 has window airbags.
This vid perfectly shows why
Guys What's the music? Anyone knows the name???
So no speed given, wrong car date numbers. real nice video..
Mazda = paper
mazda better then audi in this test.. minor deformation of the frame and retraction of the dashboard
Michael Frassi Are you serious! The dummy nearly lost its head from the door coming flying off the Mazda because there was no side air bags my honest reaction was "holy F$%K" when I watch the Mazda one. BMW would appear to be the best!
paddyx333 It didn't have the lateral airbag, that's why
Marcelo F. Kawas Exactly Marcelo!!
Very surprised at the audi
Not bad for 2008.
Same expected it to be safer
***** Wut? If the passenger seat isn't occupied the driver airbag doesn't deploy? Fk.. keep up with the JD, enjoy, and drink even more of it.
Der BMW und der Audi waren die besten.
all of you fools saying the BMW did the best are just that, fools... the BMW got a poor rating as did many BM's up until 2014+. The 2012 (2009-2013) MAZDA6 got an acceptable rating
wtf audi??? it was like lada...
The 2016 model changed a lot, it is a lot better.
F
Facundo Gonzalez doesn't change the fact that it got crumpled like a early 2000s car.
Shit!!!I was thinking to buy a Mazda 6!! .|.
cityhunterhf Actually Japanese cars perform better than their American competitors, and some europeans
U can die in any car, but theres nothing wrong of buying japanese cars, just drive carefully..
it is safe
a4 has passat chassis , thats why its not safe. if you put vw chassis, put audi brand on it and sell double prices doesnt make cars safer.
подскажите что за мелодия ?
The older Volvo models (like the S90) didn't have any trouble with the new small overlap crashtest. They did just pass, while designed before the test was introduced.
what is the crash speed ?
Hunny Records 64 km/h in 90% of tests
Audi and BMW look safiest
After watching these crash tests, I'm glad I bought an Accord!
the bmws wheel crushed the front passeners legs
These are cars from 2012. So don’t raise your expectations
A reminder that this test does not cover passenger side impact. Some seems good but fails in passenger side impacts.
The Audi is a deathtrap! Not only the front got crumbled, but the interior got mashed too.
I am a Volvonerd, so watch this type of crashtest with a S80, XC90 and XC60. And remember these Volvo models are a few years older than crappy Audi, but much more safer!
Dont forget Saabs. They had most of these safety aspects covered long before others.
BearsDkills your gay
Drowhawk Toyotas has called in millions of Toyotas becuse of the fail of breaksystems.
The Mazda is built with wacky glue
The LF wheel at 3:08 looks like it causes major injury to the driver, it basically gets pushed up into his thigh.
The funny thing about this is: The difference in the cars is exactly what you would guess based on stereotypes. Apparently, they are mostly true ...
its crazy how you more expensive cars wont protect you in a crash like this at 30-40 mph. You could be seriously injured or killed due to someone else driving over the 2 solid line on the road.
0:53 why window is open? Is phantom kill when hit glass?
Guys Audi did their improvement on their 2016 model :p
Looks to me that BMW is the safest from all
Audi and BMW are the best
the F30 is the best
What's the soundtrack of this video?
How many mph were there in each test?
each test was run at 40 mph
BMW and Suzuki were by far the safest here
The problem with the curtain airbag, which serves no purpose ... his head hits the panel
does anybody knows the song from this video?
Well time to add that roll cage in my audi I just bought.
@1:30 a whole new way of getting curb rash
I think after this crash tests if the car is not safe probably will be sent back to improve safety issues. :-? I mean that should be the best way to proceed.
BMW is the winner
i laugh at those who say how much better and cheaper there Chinese cars are. When it really comes down to it you get what you pay for. German engineering is the future.
All but a slither of German cars tested got poor and marginal.
Anyone knows the name of the song?
Mazda 6 we have to install safety airbas by ourselves. lol
не важно отклониться ли автомобиль
it appears if you want to survive this type of crash you need a Volvo,Acura ((I have both)) or surprisingly A Suzuki??? I wonder if the Kizashi is a good commuter im looking to buy a used car for a backup...
Apparently you didnt see the BMW..
*****
It had a good overall in the small overlap test, almost as good as the Volvo XC90
Someone still believe in Volvo's quality. That's funny.
Although at first watch you may not agree, the Kizashi and the BMW are the worst here.
Leg amputation by the wheel rim in these two.
+derbigpr500 unfortunately the bmw got a poor rating due to 40cm of footwell intrusion. The suzuki was the best with a good rating.
The BMW performed brilliantly there and with out a doubt that, and the Suzuki were the safest picks of the bunch. However if you watch the video of the Volvo XC60 doing this exact same test you'll see that nothing comes close to it.
IncrediblTest very years important,in the street AND countryd
2012 Audi A4 2012 BMW serie 3 2012 Mazda 6 2014 Chevrolet Malibú 2012 Suzuki Kizashi
