Yoongi using this song as a dialogue between himself and his shadow (if you don’t know what a shadow is, google Carl Jung Shadow) is just incredibly genius to me. Reminds me of how he spoke from his pov and the pov of his first piano in “First Love”
@@ablindinglightthatnolonger8379 no problem (I love a good long comment 😂😂) but I actually don’t think yoongi dissociates (he might, considering his history with his mental health) but I think Yoongi is actually incredibly introspective and, even in this song SHAODW, always talks abt accepting his fears and the parts of him that make up his shadow because his life will be easier that way.
I truly love his mind and how he chooses to articulate these kinds of messages bc he’s always so honest and vulnerable with us. And since we know he’s not incredibly expressive in general it seems to me he only allows himself to release his emotions and thoughts through his music.
@@Ahjusshi_Brown Thanks! No, I don't think he actually dissociates in the literal sense of the word, or I don't know if he does in his personal life at least. But I do think that it does make it easier for him to talk about his feelings and struggles (at least in his music) when he uses a different persona that kind of makes him face reality.
Like he TALKS TO himself rather than EXPLAINING himself if that makes sense..?
This doesn't take away from his introspection at all, it's just one way it's easier for him to evaluate his mental well-being and thoughts and go through the process of accepting his trauma and healing.
Like if you were to write a journal using his style of writing lyrics, you would write questions to yourself, affirmations, describe your feelings, and use metaphors without necessarily talking about the episodes that made you feel that way, rather than direct "I did this!" or "I feel this because so and so!", or stream of consciousness type of writing which I think is more inherent of Namjoon's lyrics.
Did I make any sense? Idk I just love how they give so much importance to penmanship and layers in their writing and production!😅
I love when he personifies things and emotions, because to me, it is so easy to do that when it comes to trauma and I could accept that part of me as well. To this day, a lot of people can be skeptical about that, but I agree it is a defense mechanism to protect our emotions and memories
All SUGA 's solo songs are masterpieces as BTS group songs. And also SUGA has deep personality. And his pen is very strong to express his feelings. He is genius as composer and producer also. That's why his songs become hits

They were actually not hoping to be in that position. They just wanted to succeed on some level. They just got there (where they deserve). Just like what Suga said before. He just wanted to go to the 15th floor but he suddenly feels like he's on the 60th.

Shadow is off their Map of the Soul: 7 album which the lyrics are mostly based off Carl Jung's Map of the Soul philosophy - Persona, Shadow, Ego - all songs on the album. I recommend checking them out!
Also, if you're curious about it, the book Map of the Soul 7 by Murray Stein is really good. He talks about BTS's album and the connections between the lyrics and the philosophy of Carl Jung.

You need to watch the MV to this song. It’s so well done & matches the song to the T. Yoonji especially has been very vocal about his struggles being in the spotlight. Talking about depression, mental health etc that’s not openly talked about in Korea.
