Bro you missed the point 😂 And plus the table router was made using a drill and his handheld router. And as for the screwdriver, soldering iron, and wire cutters, u need those to make a guitar work so those don’t count. And the pencil and sandpaper are just used to polish it up. He meant he use 3 tools to make the guitar.
Great job. More and more are "building" with a CNC, which is just programing with minimal hand skills or have a totally professional set up, with every tool possible. I might as well watch video from a factory. It's nice to see the reason I like checking CZcams out.
Thank you! Feel free to watch the rest of my videos! I definitely am fortunate to have a decent amount of tools but, by no means is it a professional setup! And I’m not smart enough to run a CNC!
I intentionally didn’t count the clamps but I just completely forgot the soldering iron even existed. I suppose the screwdriver could have been replaced by the drill. Please forgive this oversight. I am ashamed.
Cool build! I’m assuming you planed the poplar wood first right? Thinking about getting into building guitars and thsts the part that worries me the most, how to get the wood dead flat and jointed properly
I did not plane this wood. I cut it out of old shop furniture and it was already pretty flat. I did sand it though. I do have a planet that I use on other builds. But, if you want to get into guitar building start by buying lumber that’s already surfaced on 3 sides and your golden!
Haha thanks! I knew people would say some things about clamps being tools or the fact that I used a pre-fab neck. I've got other build videos where I've made necks but that doesn't matter! People just like making comments no matter what you do. Most people are kind and generous though!
@@dannylewisguitars Isn't it simpler to take a thick premade neck and mod it to your preferences? Wouldn't you end up with the same result - OK maybe not as satisfying to make, but performance-wise?
@@secallen I guess you could do that! I have used premade necks and I have built my own. I like the challenge of building my own and I like the ability to make it out of whatever I want. I have these 3 tools, challenge accepted!! Great video, very inspirational. So if you could add one more tool to use in addition to these 3 what would it be?
A decent random orbit sander! If you want to build your own neck instead of using a premade neck, I think a spoke shave is my favorite tool! And a decent fret slot saw is useful. This video is more in depth and shows lots more tools: czcams.com/video/fEV4uFlhILM/video.html
I'm presuming the three tools you referred to were the power tools - jigsaw, drill and router? Not counting the cutters, screwdriver, soldering iron, a dozen clamps, workmate and hammer.😉 Really nice job.
Yeah! The three power tools that were shown at the very beginning. I should have called it “I built this guitar with 3 POWER tools”. But then I would have gotten fewer people to comment and tell me I don’t know how to count! So, maybe I’ll just leave it.
I’m not sure how much it weighs! It’s light, probably 4-5lbs. When it’s not plugged in, it sounds like any solid body electric. There’s no cavity or sound board to amplify it so it’s doesn’t really have an “acoustic mode”. At least not any more than any other electric guitar.
When you glued the thrid layer, all three layers were the same thickness. So how did you thin it down? A thickness planer, thinning down the top and bottom pieces. I am seeing a big difference between the guitar before and after you worked on the neck.
Yeah, I decided it was too thick at the last minute. I used a router sled to thin it down. The guitar is too wide to fit through my thickness planer. I didn’t film that part for some reason!
Thanks! I generally agree. I tried something different with this one but, don't worry, in all my other videos I don't paint over the wood in my guitars!

Does the Poplar wood (a soft wood I believe) dent and scratch easy?
Well it dents easier than maple but not as easy as pine! But the paint and finish will have to scratch before the wood scratches.

Tight bond original
