Great tutorial and very nice work! What type of illustration board did you use and did you prep it in any particular way?

    • @TheAIRspace

      Thanks!
I wish i could tell you what illustration board it is. However it was a sample given to me to try. no prep straight on the board. Im trying to see if we can get that board and the cost of it.
The best ive found in the US is crescent 215 or 205 but its pricey unless you buy it 40 sheets at a time. Ironically I did order 40 sheets and they sent me the wrong board... so im trying to get that returned :)
Ill add a link in the desc for 215 which is nice, but not as nice as this sample.

Great Review Bill! Any hiccups with the paint? Did you have to dilute the paint any? Hope Allison is feeling much better now! Best wishes, and thanks for sharing, bud!! 👍

The white and black buildup on the tip a bit. about what the wicked opaques do. I reduced with water and retarder to help with that. And I cant really ding them when i see it as much the same as other more expensive paints in that regard. You can of course reduce with their reducer.. or createx 4011 is compatible. So is trident reducer, albeit that might depend on how heavy you mix the trident reducer up (trident reducer is butoxy ethanol which is banned in several markets, and intended to be a concentrate you add to distilled water)
IMO these like any paints have to be learned what works. They DO in fact work fine out of the bottle for a great deal of work down to a .2 needle. But they need some reduction when trying to get in tight. After talking to Artem he may be at my request offering single 4 oz bottles of black and white. It may take a while, since packaging has to be created for that. And he has to weigh that cost / benefit. Id suspect its dependant on how popular these get.
I was suprised at the color pigments being as good as they are. They stick well, erase without gumming up. And are matt. So that's a lot of what i want in a paint.
Allison is doing well, and up and about taking small car rides and im gonna get her walking around the neighborhood soon. She should be mostly back to normal in another week.

@@TheAIRspace glad to hear Allison is doing well! And thanks for that great descriptive response on the paints! I guess one would just have to wait to see how durable this paints are. In thr meantime for for the price it's a great starter set for people to practice on! Specially the ones starting out!

@@jc2200 Most people wont want/need my absurdly large selection of paint. Honestly for art, most are better off without too many paints. So a set like this is just about perfect for someone wanting to do portraits/ wildlife etc. (i have wayyyyy too many paints to keep up with)

@@TheAIRspace I bet, but the large amount of tests with different brands of paints you have done helps everyone make a better decision. I was chatting with Dred Fx, and he agrees golden is no longer as good as it used to be!! So he's even considering trying createx now! ...people try different paints till the find the one they like. To have guys like yourself. Telling it like it helps everyone in the long !

@@jc2200 there was a change in available resins used in paint some time back. I think it affected several manufacturers. and caused them to rework some lines of paint. Golden high flow white used to be my go to, heavy pigment smooth flowing.. now it tends to spit on me a little bit. I dont know if they had to reformulate or not.. but either way i noticed a difference. I cant see a difference in the transparents just the opaques in golden.
