      It was and I also believe the premise behind it was very saddening. The house literally showed her son dead from a drug overdose and her daughter dead from a suicide. The whole not wanting your little kids to grow up into an ugly and scary world. Keeping them safe and preserved as innocent little children forever. As a father of two little boys I can understand this immensely.

      I don't think it was Olivia's actions that caused her children to have futurue problems. Nell and Luke still think they were having tea they don't remember their mom in a state of chaos. I thought it was very clear that Nell being haunted by herself and Luke seeing ghosts in the house is what lead them to have mental illness. Not their mother. Maybe their mother's death but not their mother's actions in the house. They were unaware of what she was trying to do.

    That's exactly why I love horror. People get the misconception that horror has to be blood and guts, demons and the supernatural - but *true* horror is a reflection of the real world and issues that the average person can relate to, disguised in stories outside of realism. Haunting of Hillhouse does this so well and I think it's why so many people are connecting to it.

And like she said, a lot of it’s subjective meaning that each viewer has their own interpretation based on their cognitive perception and perspective. Kind of like music. Artists write songs based on their own feeling but want their listeners to have their own interpretation so it means something to them personally. Everyone could have something different to bring to the table and what a lyric means to one person may not mean the same to another. 😊

Like are they physically walking to the red room and they just don’t know it? Are they walking to some random room in the house and then the house shifts and that becomes the red room? How the hell did Luke end up in a tree house without leaving the house?

    • @emmahowe9965

      I think that they have no memory of entering the red room. Like when Olivia is holding the twins, then the next moment Hugh is there holding Luke and she seems to have skipped time. I don't think any of them are aware of the missing time going into the room, as part of the red rooms power. They just are suddenly there, partway through an activity. How many times had each of us been so engrossed in what we are doing that we are not aware of where we are or what is happening?

So whenever she acts you feel the confortability and each character she plays she just elevates it even more because she's so good at becoming this characters that it doesn't feel like she's acting it's just who she is in that particular moment.

It falls all around us like rain, happening all at the same time" Then Shirley says " I am sorry I did not answer" Nel reply's " you did answer. So many times. It did not change anything"

      @kimcarragher5784 Před 5 lety +166

      I think that the whole “I’m sorry I didn’t answer/you did answer” was Shirley talking about how she didn’t answer the last call, but Nell reminded her that she answered every call before that. • @DangerouslyRelaxed
      @DangerouslyRelaxed Před 5 lety +98

      My take was that Hugh was "the fixer", and because of that, he would have altered/torn-up/fixed the red room, and the red room wasn't having that. If my memory serves, Hugh wasn't that concerned with the room until there was an issue with mold. I think that's why he was refused entry until he struck that deal with Olivia. As far as why he wasn't drawn to it like everyone else...maybe because the house wanted him to continue working on it, and flip it, so that they could have new victims once the Crane family was dead and became permanent residents. He loved his family so much that it wouldn't have been hard to push him over the edge once everyone else was dead. Doesn't he say something to the effect that he would've laid down next to Olivia and died the night she did if it weren't for the kids? I'm gonna need to watch it again....SO good!

    • @DangerouslyRelaxed
      @DangerouslyRelaxed Před 5 lety +71

      Another take (based on what Carla says in the video) is that the room provides each family member with some solace. Maybe Hugh's solace came from his work and his family? He seemed perfectly happy working on the house with his family around him. He doesn't seem to really need any idle, alone time...so no need for the red room... Thoughts? GREAT question, btw!

      Yes the ending definitely seemed rushed, it seemed like the ending of a Mexican soup opera. Trying to wrap up with an umposible happy ending for every character at the very last minute. The rest of the show was amazing though.

    The way she answered all of these questions and actually put your mind to ease about certain things shows how invested she was and how she really put herself in her character's place. Her character was one of my favourites in Haunting of Hill House, there was something melancholy beautiful about Olivia.

    Her voice is so soft. I simply love it
