I realise that this is years later now but City planned to get Pep by playing the long game. They prepared by bringing over his support group in Beguiristan and Soriano, men he knew and trusted at Barca so that he knew that he would have them in place to do what he needed from them. There was no long game in place to get him from the Glazers. Any hope of United getting him was just a pipedream.
