Regardless if the native format on the Laser Disc is analog composite if S-Video is sharper and cleaner out than the composite out, then thats the way to go. Basically the S-Video is showing a cleaner image of the native analog composite then the composite output. Also you could probably clean up the image even more by using Hi Quality Gold Plated S-VIdeo Cables. The colors can be adjusted with the TV or Monitor. When it comes to video quality you want the cleanest image first then adjust for color, brightness and ect. on the TV or Monitor.

As people have suggested... The native video format on the disc is analog composite. The comb filter cannot do better than the actual quality of the signal in the disc.

As cool as the video is and the effort is really appreciated. The actual viewing is determined by what 3d comb filter is being implemented. To see the raw unfiltered composite feed vs a 1992 comb filter, the yamah would win. But... plug the composite in a better comb filter found in 90's/early 2000's CRT set and Plasma screens from 2007-2012 and their comb filter would smoke the 1992 internal Yamaha.
But to see the raw video is really cool 😎

Thanks for sharing. I love how I learn stuff from my viewers!

Arnt you just displacing the comb filter switching from comp to svid?
Svid uses the comb filter in the player where as comp uses the tvs or in my case the dvdo.

I'm not too familiar with what a comb filter is. Is that a seperate component for the laserdisc. If it improve the picture I would look it up.

Is the remote necessary? About to pick one up no remote unfortunately

Not really. But if you need the luxury of being able to rewind and fast forward or skip to the next chapter I would say yes. As far as I know, an input selector is not needed with this device so you’re good to go. It plays like a champ only wish that it had an auto reverse function.

@@jblassioI feel the auto flip / read function is another complicated thing that makes them prone to failure long term. I agree, plays like a champ, still spinning in 2024
