Could you do a video on the generator, plumbing and electrical? Im curious how you went about those challenges and what kind of research we should do.

My wife and I are looking into starting our own business with coffee being a focal point. I recently found your videos, and honestly, thank you. This gives me a good idea of what we're getting into

I know I have commented before that I really enjoy watching your videos because it feels like such a mirror to the process that I went through opening my coffee truck. It is so exciting to see the business growing and trying out new things, like with your coupon, and seeing the positive results of that is very cool. Congrats! :) Maybe this is something you already do or have considered, but I found gift cards to be really great for new customer retention. Especially if you have a semi-regular parking spot and you are able to just become part of someone's morning routine.

Hello from Jackson, Michigan! I'm looking to start a coffee cart and I really enjoy watching your videos. Thank you for them! What grinder are you using for espresso?

Love getting to connect with other Michigan coffee folks! 👋🏼 We use the anfim scody ii & it has been holding up super well! The only complaint I have is with a bottomless portafilter you have to hold the handle the entire time - you can’t just set it on the grinder and walk away like you can with some others. I’ve gotten used to it & now it’s just part of our workflow. Good luck to you!

You must get a grinder that dispenses an exact amount = no weighing, go straight to tamping

Our grinder doses dispense the same amount each time, but weather/humidity and roast date can still have an impact on your coffee. The taste will change daily - which is why we dial in every morning. Once you weigh your first few shots and find the best taste/ratio we don’t have to use the scale for the rest of the day. It’s called dialing in & it helps with quality control on the daily so shots aren’t pulling too sour/bitter/etc.

I'm thinking of starting a coffee truck soon, how many events do you usually get a month if you dont mine me asking?

It really all depends on your market/business plan as well as trial and error. Our first season was a slow build. We went to some markets that really didn't work, and found some that were great. What kept us going were our referrals, and word of mouth private event bookings. Some months we are booked solid, and others there is a lull. I know that's not a very simple response, but the days you're booked will be reflective of your outreach/the work you put in. On average (at the end of year one) we do 5-6 events per week.

What Expresso machine did you use when you first started your business? ❤

For the camper we bought a refurbished La Marzocco before anything else. It has been a work horse! For pop-up events we started with a rocket appartimento (it had trouble keeping up and started developing issues after one year). A good machine can make or break your experience. We now have a one group Lucca A53 that has been keeping up much better for our cart/smaller events.

Every county is different. I suggest reaching out to your local health department and they can give you a list of everything you will need before you get started! Getting your food managers certificate is also a great place to start - most states require it!
