- It's our Waterford Weekend bonus videos! Instead of resting up, we heading out ... Vicki back to Tipperary whilst Geoff goes to the beach, but they meet up again at an abandoned station before a final search for a disused railway bridge ...
All The Stations - Ireland sees Geoff and Vicki exploring the length and breadth of the Iarnród Éireann and Northern Ireland Railways networks, travelling to all 198 railway stations. Along the way, they'll meet the communities connected to the lines, interview local people and those who work on the railways, to find out about their experiences of travelling by train.
To The Book! "The Railway Adventures" is published by September Publishing and was released in October 2018. It accompanies the 2017 'All The Stations' adventure, when we travelled to all 2,563 railway stations in Great Britain. Available here: www.amzn.com/1910463876
You can see a progress map and station count on the website: www.allthestations.co.uk/
I love how, given a day off to explore, Vicki chooses to explore the history of the communities connected by railroads, and Geoff chooses to explore the history of the railroads that connect communities. Very yin & yang of you.
They truly are one of the most well matched couples i've ever seen! The happiness shines through! :)
Some say that Vicki remains in Tipperary to this day, waiting for that car alarm to stop.
It was a long wait, in Tipperary
A whole new take on the "Please Wait" scenario!!
#AllTheCarAlarms #AllOfThem
Was looking for this comment.
Rumour has it Vicki is still there on 31 October 2019, the car alarm having continued for 7 long months now without stopping
Okay that bridge was absolutely worth it. Never even heard of it!
that ferry is cute as well.
When I was a child in 80s, before Ryanair became a budget airline, my mother would buy a Sail & Rail ticket from Waterford to London and we'd take the train from Waterford to Rosslare, ferry to Fishguard, then an Intercity 125 train to Paddington. We made that trip every summer to visit my aunt who lived in Edgware.
The editors missed a golden opportunity at the end while the car alarm is going off to insert "please wait". Fascinating side trips today for both of them.
That beach looks nice, a beach that rivals beaches along the Jersey Shore (New Jersey that is) and Long Island. I love to see abandoned stations. My favorite ones in the UK are Aldwych and the Jubilee Line platform at Charing Cross. But my favorite overall is City Hall in NYC. The 6 train uses the station to loop back in the direction of the Bronx and the station is beautiful. They offer tours of the station for one hundred dollars that sell out fast
Cheers Geoff and Vicki - We love having you and the gang once again on a daily/regular basis. Keep up the brilliant work!
I love the tune When Vicki Explores something new
I travelled on the Waterford to Tramore railway before it closed in 1960 & crossed the Barrow Bridge many times to stay with family in Waterford after getting off the Fishguard to Rosslare boat. Happy memories.
Thanks for supporting the Waterford - Tipperary Junction (!!) line!
Vicky’s “Please Help” voice deserves more recognition.
great to have the next installment!
Great Video! ✔ Loved your strange day Geoff 😊 Vicki is such a delight! This was short but sweet!
Darn Car alarm...Poor Vicki she looked so annoyed and that bridge looks awesome!!
Another great episode. Can’t wait for next one
Semaphore signals, crossing gates and signal box at Tipperary. I’m surprised no-one hasn’t had that Bridgetown sign away! Impressive bridge, worth the trip out there.
Damn car alarm! Good show of restraint, Vicki!!
The Rosslare to Waterford line has deteriorated a lot since it closed in 2010. Weed Sprayers and Inspection cars still use the line.
You brought the good weather with you, thanks for that btw!
loving the outtake at the end!
Less trains and stations today but still learnt me more about Ireland and it's history. Keep up the great videos and look forward to the next one. Plus car alarms one off the bane off modern life
Great episode
All of these posts are making me want to visit Ireland :)
So glad you both had fun in my beautiful county and especially my home town of Waterford can’t wait to see kilmeaden station soon as it’s just around the corner from where I live !
And conveniently there also happens to be a parkrun in Tramore. Good luck for your 250th this Saturday Geoff!
Love this episode. 👍
Another GREAT Video!
Great video loving the Ireland trip. keep up the great both of you.
So glad i came accross your channel.Look forward to it every day :)
Fantastic editing.
That was a truly spectacular Aldi in the background.
Question on everyone's lips was it a long way?
Tipp is a long Trip way, always has been, by road or by rail.
Great tune!
The words for "It's A Long Way To Tipperary" were written by Jack Judge. He came from Oldbury in the West Midlands and supported West Brom.
There is a abandoned station called "Mosney" between Gormanston and Laytown. It closed in 2001 which means it still has station signs and a passenger information sign. It had a track which came of the main line to serve it however it was removed around 2013, from that time untill the tracks removal it was used as a loop. It is located to the west of the Northbound track and only has one platform.
Shame the bridge is no longer used. And aww poor Vicki at the end there!
Bet it’s exhausting all this travelling 🧳
That smoke in the distance made it look like a steam train was heading for the bridge
Caught up a bit late today...seen...enjoyed...tick :)
Don't take this the wrong way, but - for me - this is one of your best for quite a while. Vicki's presentation is excellent, and Geoff (and the other one) go off and do some interesting historical stuff.
I felt they didn't show us much of Tipperary but maybe the car alarm took up most of the hour Vicki had
Love the semaphore signalling still in use
Tonight's outtake ending is a masterpiece of editing! Props to the editors!
I'd love to see more videos of abandoned railway lines and stations, across the UK
Hi I live in bridgetown in the estate behind the abandon station it's called Hazelwood and love your videos great videos ❤️❤️😁😁
Nice video
Great video as always...That bridge in final scene....I wouldn't trust it😄
It didn't seem to be that far to Tipperary, did it?
What did the kissing stone do to you guys yesterday! Separate trips! 😂😂😂
Geoff, never mind whether or not it's raining in Ireland - we woke up to SNOW this morning in England!
Tipperary looks beautiful
The Tramore video is literally like all of it 30 seconds to a minute away from my front door, and I missed you!!!! :'(
Ah, poor Vicki. Cut short by a car alarm. I felt for her....my ears are still ringing....!!
The song It’s a long way to Tipperary was written in a pub in Warwickshire, the pub is now called the Tipperary inn
Vicki, here in Sweden we often tell a story about a chap trying to get rid of his dog called Rary and after having tried three times he started singing, It´s a hard time to tip a Rary, tip in Sweden is the city waste centre. Geoff I have done the line to Calafort Ros Lair and it was really nice.
It is interesting how much rail infrastructure appears similar specifically to the Southern Area of UK rail network (LSWR and LBSC in the main on the footbridges and metal rail overbridges. Additionally in the past my family part lived in Tramore, a lovely place and although the bus might be better at connecting the two places today, the railway is missed.
Trying to get the right take in Tipperary - it's a long to go... 😉
How about a short video on the old West Cork Railway and what is now remaining of it ? One of the most expensive lines built at the time due to the terrain, needing many bridges, cuttings, embankments and tunnels. The Viaduct just outside Cork is impressive.
*It’s a long way to Tipperary!*
also the mount elliot bridge too on the river barrow a few miles up passed new ross
Yay back in Co. Wexford again for Bridgetown. Can't believe you didn't say 'by Hook or by Crooke' on Passage East ferry.
Bridgetown already looks knackered. Hard to believe they only closed the line a while ago.
Nine years of shite weather will do that, I suppose 🤣
I hope you went to Wellingtonbridge where there is a very impressive station on what used to be the Wexford to Waterford line. It may be possible to view other stations on the line. The track is still in situ and does see some use, although the passenger trains are specials.
It’s a long, long way to Tipperary. Such a long, long way to go…
There's another abandoned railway bridge in Waterford. It's the Old Red Iron Bridge just outside the city. The Waterford Greenway passes close to it. The middle of the bridge is missing.
Geoff looks sunburnt!
Ahhh did someone say Abandoned, my kind of video.... 🤓😁
Loved the video guys there was also the old Waterford city south station on the southern bank of the river Suir at Bilberry in the city. King Edward knighted the city mayor there in 1904. There is still some of the old Tramore rail line turned into a greenway which runs alongside a canal from the old site of the railway station in the city running for approx 4km in the Tramore direction.
I grew up down the road from Passage East.
Ohh true fact Geoff, Waterford was one of the counties used for the Eastenders spin off "Redwater" which featured Dunmore East, and Passage East as the locations.
I think I've finally seen Vicki's "unimpressed" face...
All the stations IOM...Should take a day☺
Tipperary is Ireland's joint least used station
Not surprised. Its a long way.
I love how there is an equal least used station...
Very, very, very CUTE! But, you need to tell Nellie O'Brien's pub that their Canadian flag is upside down!
Nice catch!
I've posted on their Facebook page:
facebook.com/norriespub/posts/2519572964780262
It's been a while since they posted, but hopefully they will see it.
From the Google Maps photo, Nellie O'Briens in Tipperary usually has an Irish flag in that spot (and a US flag above Geoff's camera, out of view here). Maybe swapped out for a special occasion...?
My wife is walking all irelands green ways and is walking the Waterford greenway in June she has already walked the achill to Westport greenway twice and it follows the old railway bed
Don't forget to visit the 4km St.John's river greenway in Waterford city along the old Waterford -Tramore railway.
It’s a long way to Tipperary.
Ireland is Beautify... I want to spend my holiday touring by rail first chance I get (!!)
@8:30 : The River Sewer?? @2:57 : Tramore missed a good publicity chance there!
At 6:12 Paul and Rebecca Whitewick look different in this one :p (sorry couldn't resist writing that) But video is different but it was good to watch!
Sim0nTrains 😂😂...... we certainly do!
I heard some place that their was a major British army barracks in Tipperary that dispersed British soldiers trugh out Ireland . You could C how a soldier travelling from Britain to Ireland bored would come up with the song.
Am I the only one who thinks this video needed a "Geoff Explores" segment as well as the usual "Vicki explores"?
Nah, it's her thing
Nice. Still use semaphore signals
Vicky I think you missed some important parts of Tipp town. For example the many, many shut down buildings.
Many, many, many, many, many shut down buildings
The Waterford to Rosslare line closed in 2010. There was only one train per day and its schedule didn't coincide with the departure & arrival times of the ferries at Rosslare. I was going by train from Cork to Waterford about 10 years ago and the guy who checked my ticket when I was boarding at Cork didn't know there was a connection at Limerick Junction for Waterford and Rosslare. Before the Waterford to Rosslare line closed the ticket sales only covered 2% of the operating cost so it was running at a 98% loss.
Whenever I hear a car alarm, I immediately think BMW as they are always going off, unlike the indicators that never work.
Oh dear that Canadian flag is upside down. Fun episode, poor Vicki
Now, if you’d mentioned that to me when we met, I’d have taken you to a lot more interesting places.
The Waterford end of the Tramore line, and some
places where the alignment is extant. Some bridges still there. And where the Waterford station was.
And the Waterford end of the Barrow Bridge is much nicer than the other end!
Of course the Barrow Bridge is over the River Barrow, not the River Suir.
Still - you didn’t ask!
I like trains. :0
Aquaplanes, Trains and Automobiles (sort of) :P
They should be proud to be a part of the finale of the Mary Tyler Moore show...
Another brilliant video! If I was incharge of Irish Rail I'd reopen the Rosslare to Waterford Line and have regular trains running from Limerick to Rosslare. Did you visit the 3' gauge Waterford & Suir Valley Railway? If the train runs right to the Southern end which it doesn't do very often you can see a similar bridge to the Barrow Bridge over the River Suir. As for Tramore I'd open a tram system in Waterford and have a route along the old railway to Tramore. Oh and did you go on the miniature railway in Tramore?
Double Geofferlicious!
Are you going to Longford. It's a very good commuter stop. Gets alot about 30 people each train.
Pretty sure at the current rate of progress they'll have passed through inside of a week.
@@MercenaryPen Say so
Wor-dor-ford. All the 'o's. All of them.
They have an intact bridge that appears to be in good condition that could be converted and turn the line into a walking and cycling heritage trail across the longest bridge, every one of those types of trail in mainland Britain is well used, Irelands tourist industry is large, so many visitors would probably love a walk in the Irish countryside and railway enthusiasts, get it done before the rot sets in and it would cost so much less.
I really enjoyed watching Geoff and Vicky get out and explore a bit and Thankyou to Geoff for offering to take Geoff out to the bridge so he and we got to see it.
All The Ferries.
Ah so sorry I missed you, could have showed you more of waterfords railway history. Tramores railway and remnants. Ah well.
Vicky made the connection between Limerick and Tipperary.
I live in tramore the station has been done up since
Hm the Bridge and Tracks look new and in good shape i wonder why its closed down...
PS: Going from Cork to Dub easter by train looking forward for the Matrix.
The bridge looks very American - nice!
I believe the east - west coast in the Highlands is the most scenic journey in the world. .....have you done it or are you interested. ..?
