    Very well made units mine is a S681U Equator II. Easy to change wick just rotate Counter-clockwise until tab up from latch then pull knob out to release wick holder collapse wick inwardly from pins reverse with new wick. It took me 2 tries to adjust wick height corectly 3/8inch exposed when fully to right knob (3X wick number)

    Hi. Great video. And lucky for me I saw the two lamps my wife was given by her father before he passed. I have been looking for shades for them a long time. I am hoping you can help me. I believe the shades I need are the Allison 501-11. White on the top part with the clear glass at the bottom. And like you, I am in Ontario, near Barrie. I am hoping you can point me in the right direction? Perhaps you may have some of these yourself? Thanks again. Norm

    Really enjoying your videos. Started picking up old lamps a few months ago. After I discovered Aladdin lamps I came across your channel. I have a question maybe you can help me with. One of the old Aladdins I found has an adjustable outer wick tube. It travels up and down with the wick. What is that for, how do you use it? Is it supposed to move with the wick? I've looked around for info. I can find it mentioned but no info on what it's for or how to use it. Thanks for your videos.

    • @Kerosenecanada
      @Kerosenecanada  Před 3 lety +1

      The outer wick tube needs to be locked into position. If it’s a model B burner, there are three slots in the OWT.
      One being wider. If you look at the burner basket, there are notches that the slots fit into.
      There should be one area where there are two notches, that line up with the wider slot on the OWT.
      Good luck.
      Thanks

      @@Kerosenecanada Thanks, your reply actually showed me that my question was a stupid one. After your response I went back and compared the burner I was asking about to another that did not do what I was asking about. My problem was a defective or problematic wick tube. The outer wick tube is actually made of two tubes, one inside the other held in place by indentations in the metal around the shaft of the tube. That had come loose so the inner part of the tube would move when the wick moved. I tightened that connection and the tube stopped moving. Now all the burners operate the same. You probably have no idea what I'm talking about but your answer led me to find the problem. Thanks.

      William York I have friends that have fixed that sort of thing in the past. I have limited skills and tools so I don’t fix gears when they are stripped. I just replace the burner. Sorry this doesn’t really help out.

    • @Kerosenecanada
      @Kerosenecanada  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes, it’s similar. It’s the same as the Model A. In fact, the model A was used in one year only. 1932.
      The Tooling was send to England as part of the Ottawa Agreement. Long story short, the Allies did not want England to rely on German made burners long before the war once the Nazi party got in power.
      Aladdin had more foresight Neville Chamberlain.

      winterwolf2012 , not sure. I would have to see a picture to help figure it out. I specialize in American center draught lamps. If I would have to guess , I would say it’s a European lamp. Any lamp built in the US after 1885 says made in in United States ,patent pending or patent number usually. Cheers

    I got a Model C burner that was never used in original box. I have never got it to operate right. I saw you had one but you said you had never used it. Could you try one out and then troubleshoot the burner for me? I would like to get it working properly.

    • @Kerosenecanada
      @Kerosenecanada  Před 3 lety

      Aladdin industries could not get any performance of of the model C, they changed the gallery a few times over 5 years, then came up will an all new burner. They gave up on the burner. I’m not a machinist and have music tools.
      I fix burners by matching parts to fit better. That won’t help you. I would like with your burners performance of just get a model B or a new burner and move on. That’s what everyone does.

      @@Kerosenecanada I watched your video about mantle problems. You stated that often it was the wick being uneven so I looked and lo and behold it was. High on 1 side. Low on the other. So I'm going to trim the wick like you showed and give it another shot. I also have a Model A that works very well. The major complaint with it was people said they had trouble rewicking. Hence the Model B. I don't have that problem. Wick has to be dry though or it's nearly impossible to engage the raiser.

    Why do you say 'burn a model B and don't burn anything else?' I was surprised you phrased it liek that. Is there a safety concern with the other types?

    • @Kerosenecanada
      @Kerosenecanada  Před 2 lety +1

      I said “ if you are going to burn an old burner, use a Model B”
      Technically all lamps safety concerns If left unattended.
      I prefer to Run #6. Good luck finding parts for those.
      Go to The Aladdin Facebook collectors group and ask them what’s the best to run. 9 out of ten will say B.
