    Hi Folks, Tim here and want to let you know I plan on getting the Startcraft out this year on the water again. The earliest will be July since it's a waste of money licensing it sooner. It's sat for a couple of years. Before then though going to do a few prep videos and a link sync for those of you who would like to learn how. It's a Mercury 60hp 2 stroke 3 cylinder 1996 motor. Please subscribe and share the videos with friends. Thanks Tim

    Looks like it's running good. I just put my pontoon in yesterday with a merc 50. I think I finally have it straightened out, I did a bunch of work to it last year and still had problems.

      Thanks Brett, I struggled with mine too till I finally took it in last month. The diagnostic system they have really works. It runs like new. Loved your wife's duck video. Made my day. My next video will be fishing again for Trout. Will try to get the big one. I'd like to do some bass fishing too. In July going crabbing and coho fishing with this boat and in a couple of weeks lingcod fishing with a buddy in the Sound with his boat

      I was inspired by Stu to start my channel. I bought a Dangar shirt too and he posted my picture wearing it in his old shop. I have learned allot from his videos and glad he is working on smaller motors again

    If you don't mind me asking im trying to help my uncle get an idea. How big is your boat, is it fiberglass or aluminum and what would you say the top speed is? Thanks so much!!!

    • @TimsWorkshopTJY
      @TimsWorkshopTJY  Před 2 lety +1

      It's a 17ft aluminium fishing boat. Meaning flat deck inside with a fish livewell. Fishing pole storage and even tackle compartments. The motor is for the boat an is a 60hp Mercury electric start with seastar rack and pinion steering. Great for Lake and saltwater fishing/crabbing. Top speed around 30 mpr

      @@TimsWorkshopTJY Thanks alot. We are running into alot of errors with out, and cant find a pitch that will accelerate the boat. So thats why i was asking he he. You have the same engine, and a boat looking around same size

      Here you go. These are the prop numbers and as far as I know since I bought the boat used is the original prop. You can go to your local prop shop to get or order one. I also have the mercury manual which has a section on props and numbers I'll send you after while

      @TimsWorkshopTJY  Před 5 lety

      Here you go, my book didn't have my prop number because it was superseded with 48 73134A45 which is the same 10 5/8" dia and 12" pitch. OEM from Michigan cost around 134 bucks but you can get a China one for half the price online here in Seattle. They are both Aluminum RH rotation black props

    How is u're fuel consumption?

    • @TimsWorkshopTJY
      @TimsWorkshopTJY  Před 10 dny

      Not bad for a two stroke. It's a 24 gal tank and a day out saltwater fishing which is 26 miles both ways uses about a 1/4 of a tank. The rest of the time out trolling use my 4 hp kicker which uses less than a gallon

    i just got a 16foot boat with this motor Has this been a good motor ?

    • @TimsWorkshopTJY
      @TimsWorkshopTJY  Před 10 měsíci

      It's a great motor but like any motor you need to read up on it. The best book is the Mercury Service Manual sold by Mercurymarine.com. They use to list two stroke motors and service manuals but now you have to contact them. Their contact information is here so ask the for the service manual for your two stroke motor, hp, and year. It helps to give them the motor model and serial number too which is on the transom mount. You will see it when you raise the motor up. Maintenance is a must on these so read it first. The rest of the book shows how the motor works, testing and troubleshooting. Very detailed with pictures. These books cover other hp mercs the same years like the 50, 55 and jet.

      2004 60hp 2stroke compression is 104 cold/dry on all 3 cylinders i see where the serial num is , only problem is stiff sterring on the motor side inwhich im gonna put some heat to it today ive read about 3.5 gph @3500rpm also read on wikipedea that they were made in china but someone said only the 4 strokes were made in china @@TimsWorkshopTJY

      Mine is a 1996 and was made in Wisconsin. Not sure about the new ones but like I said contact Mercury Marine and they can help with all your inquiries. Yes, heat on the swivel to loosen up the old grease on the top and bottom bushings but only till it starts moving and shut the heat off. I think the bushings are nylon. Grease it up good to push out the old grease and rust that may be in there? If that doesn't work unfortunately it will need to be disassembled to clean and install new bushings. Being a 2004 hopefully new enough that won't be the case. Compression is still good especially since all of them are the same. Sounds like a good motor just needs maintenance

      @shawncordeiro5078 Před 10 měsíci +1

      so heat near top and bottom bushings only dont worry about 1/3 1/2 or 2/3 way up shaft ? is it ok for greese to come out the seals virtually blowing the seals ? a blown seal that constanly needs greesed is better then a good seal with frozen steering ?@@TimsWorkshopTJY

    • @TimsWorkshopTJY
      @TimsWorkshopTJY  Před 10 měsíci +1

      I haven't done one yet but Steward Allen on Dangar Marien stated such and he has worked motor for years down in Austriala in saltwater which really get messed up if you don't stay on top of maintenance. Yes the top and bottom is where the bushings are but I would heat all of it because the grease sits in the mid area so you want that to loosen up.
