I dont think many Tamilian realise her contribution to Indian Cinema. She literally showed Bollywood that a Tamil actor can become the most successful actress of that era. She spoke Hindi like her mother tongue, never showed a sign that she was a Tamilian. She danced any forms of dance like a queen - from Kathak to western to semi classical. She acted like she was born for it - to date I dont think any actor can emote like her without overacting, she can act as equal as Meena Kumari or Savitri. Her box office record is unparralel, just check it out for confirmation - Sangam ran as much in theatre esp for her performance. Even she was billed (title card) first before some her hero, example Rajendra Kumar, Kishore Kumar & etc. She got so busy in Hindi (as some films takes almost 3 to 4 years to complete) and her dance tour around the world, she could not act in many Tamil films. Even MGR choose her as the main female lead in Ponniyin Selvan, while giving other Tamil actresses such as Savithri, Padmini and Saroja Devi in supporting roles. We will never understand her legacy. Anyways a superstar is always superstar! Great Vyjayanthimala!
