I treat finding myself that close to baby javalina like I would a sow bear with cubs. They are adorable to be sure but mama and daddy can easily eviscerate you and they run much faster than we do. My husband is a wildlife author and he's written about having an entire group chase him a long way down a wash when he got too close. He was a combat Marine so if he has a healthy fear to steer clear or run from something i believe it. I remember the first time I ever saw a large group with babies. It was in Saguaro National Park just before sunset. He cautioned me and we moved back to our vehicle to watch. One sow had tiny twins which is supposedly rare.

I said "can" I never implied anything more. I know firsthand they can bite clean through a cowboy boot and leave deep puncture wounds. People should be vigilant walking dogs and when babies are seen. Never feed birds on the ground because it draws them in and they can also be medically endangered by impacted sand in the gut from scooping up bird seed.

Javelinas are really gamey and dont taste like pork at all. They're also surprisingly lean, unlike pigs. All in all, they would make for terrible BBQ. Feral hogs make for better BBQ and unlike javelinas, you dont even need a license for hunting them
These are native animals and should be protected by regulations and licensing. Feral hogs on the other hand should be eradicated by any means necessary. If you watch "hunting" videos you'd be given the impression they're for this purpose. Wrong. Feral hogs are big business... guns, ammo, videos, paid guides, even helicopter hunts with machine guns. LMAO "Hunting" is a distraction term when you shoot four hogs out of a sounder of 30.
