I noticed that Lisa was much more of a brat on these. It's weird that her personality shifted so much. Homer was also much more of a prick on these. Marge, Bart, and Maggie more or less remained unchanged, though.
@@imgonnastopyourightthere5924 They're better at writing sad episodes than usually writing the usual episode of "hahaha Homer's drunk", "hahaha Bart fell off a building".
That explains why a lot of the marketing and merchandise in the 90's was very Bart-centric too, as he was like the original "rebellious kid" character. It's surreal that parents from that era saw The Simpsons as people see Family Guy now despite the former being more tasteful, contemplative and generally light-hearted, at least compared to the later seasons.
I think this is by far my favorite Homer. He's not smart, but he's not stupid. His undoing always seems to be ignorance and a short fuse, not a from being a bumbling idiot. And while the full show's Homer is shown to really care about his family (e.g. Homer foregoing millions of dollars and 3 Hawaiian islands by giving Bobo to Maggie instead of Mr. Burns), it never feels that way outside of said moments. Here, even when they're just eating dinner, you feel like Homer really cares. Don't get me wrong, though; I love the full show's Homer to death. His buffoonery and record-breaking lack of self-awareness have led to some of the funniest jokes I've heard, with "looks like bad news for the... Impson family!" possibly being one of the greatest of all time.
turbopower I think “Angry Homer” from the Ullmans season 1 even season 2 and 3 was fantastic he was on medication always hypo angry and emotional now we have Jerkass Homer who is funny and crude.
6:53 When Homer teases the monkey it's a lot similar to years later in the real show when Homer is teasing the Dolphin with the fish at the Sea World and then it steals his hotdog. lol. I wonder if they took inspiration from this original scene?

Yeah, Homer was more of a hard to please grumpy dad kind of like young Abe Simpson. He also wasn't as much of an idiot.
Maggie had much more screen time and a more prominent role. In Seasons 11-14, she was treated like a prop the most.
Bart was more of a troll here. He was more rambunctious as it went.
I find that they were all a bit smarter and wittier, except Lisa who was more normal, and bratty. And the gags themselves were kinda generic.
it's weird how some are a weird mix between the new and old designs i love it
