the plough has levelled the field over hundreds of years. not much ground was flat it would of originally been hills and hollows to a certain degree. so when it was levelled for crops if a hoard was buried in a hollow it could easy be 4ft down and that could be on land that looked fairly flat at the time of the hoard or whatever being dug in. if it had only of been in the ground a few inches. and it now could be 4ft4inch so I d say that the trench was 2ft and you have not found the base of the pot I think you are still digging the scatter and it looks like if you reconstructed the pot it could hold a hundred times more coins than you found

there may be gold coins, but the metal detectors with which they work there do not detect a gold coin. if someone does not believe to do a test and make sure

After harvest now probably. No other bits of pot were found other then what you see on the video... But there's always the possibility that there's more there 😊 Gary will always film it as it's great viewing! 👍

I've just started detecting, found what appears to be a Roman coin but encrusted with dirt, its soaking In olive oil now but is there any other ways??

+Stephen Ferguson the very best way is to soak it in de-ionised water. You can buy it in your local petrol station. Soak the coin in a glass changing the water every other day for a couple of weeks. When you finally get it cleaned then, give a light soak or wipe with olive oil.
