  • I flew Air Asia. Many people ask the question is Air Asia the best low cost airline in the world? This budget airline is a favorite of mine. I've flown Air Asia over 40 times. If you play by the rules, you can get a great deal.

    Nice one Joe. Looking forward to your Chiang Mai videos. I have heard its a different more laid back vibe than Bangkok. I agree with you on travelling with only a carry on. No more over packing, lugging around a 20 something kg suitcase etc... life should be simple!

    • @EagerExpat
      @EagerExpat  Před měsícem +2

      I agree. A small carry on can get it done. 7k is a little small, but 14k for a few extra bucks is worth it. I'm usually at 10 or 11k. I have seen them weighing bags before. I don't even want to know what a last minute baggage cost is

    Currently Air asia has their flight pass on sale for about 300$ USD. The sell it every year about this time. free flight for the year limited to SEA countries, still have to pay the taxes and fees it ends up being like half price tickets. International only domestic in foreign countries but not in your home country based on passport. EDIT: Sale ended , Sorry for wasting everyones time.

    • @EagerExpat
      @EagerExpat  Před měsícem +2

      Yes, I've seen the pass come and go. I'm not sure it's worth it for me. I buy mostly $40 tickets. $20 tax and $20 fare. It will take many flights to reach $300. Plus, I believe you still have to pay for a seat and extra carry on. So for $300, I'd save $20 or $30 a ticket. Many of the tickets bought ahead of time are $19 US. $10 fare and $9 tax

    I flew Air Asia SIN-KUL followed by KUL-BKK. I paid for the Fastpass. Well worth it for the priority immigration at KUL, the priority group 1 boarding, and 14kg carry-on allowance (up to 10kg carry on and 4kg personal bag). Only a extra few dollars. The flights were comfortable. The food decent. I also picked the hot seats for a bit of extra legroom.

    • @EagerExpat
      @EagerExpat  Před měsícem +1

      I agree. They used to have the Big Red Seats. 2 and 2 in the first few rows. They switched to a 3 and 3 slightly bigger seat. Maybe an inch. The 2 and 2 was like a 1980's First Class Seat. And it was maybe $15 more. I miss that seat

    Great advice on the two one way tickets, I flew VietJet into Ho Chi Minh and that was a different kind of airport. We unloaded the plane on the tarmac and the bus had to stop for a jet taxiing to the gate.

    OMG, they got ads on the stowbins & tray tables? I'd still pick AirAsia over Spirit & Frontier though. Southwest is the lowest I'd go in the US. That's odd, AirAsia has always let me use a screenshot as boarding pass as long as the QR code is sharp enough to be scannable. I guess it's different in BKK. I always book early morning flights with LCCs; less chance of delays. Cute thumbnail!

    • @EagerExpat
      @EagerExpat  Před měsícem

      I probably wasn't clear. It was security that didn't allow the screenshot. Maybe it was just him. I didn't check a bag and went directly to security. He wanted the QR direct from the live website. No big deal. These days, I just reprint a hard copy at the self-serve. I've used a screenshot in the past, too. Like immigration, rules are different from each agent. But with everyone in the airport on the phone, or some people might be roaming, etc.. it's best not to rely on a screenshot. At least I don't anymore.

    11:30 That just happened to a friend of mine. He got two error messages when booking, and was "successful" on the third time, but found out the next day he ended up getting charged for three tickets. So he has to file a dispute with the credit card company since it's nearly impossible to speak to someone on the phone at Air Asia.

    • @EagerExpat
      @EagerExpat  Před měsícem

      The best way to book Air Asia is with Firefox. Chrome always locks up. Or you can use Expedia. They will charge you for baggage, but it works fine. The Air Asia website is more than a little clunky

    Yes I can relate to problems on the Air Asia Website. I got to the Final step and I was ready to pay and it just kept spinning. Then I noticed you have an option to go in a 7-11 and pay for your ticket there so that’s what I did. May have cost an extra 30 or 40 Baht but 7-11 gave me a receipt with a Confirmation number for Air Asia. Yes 7-11 pretty much does everything for you in Thailand lol

    • @EagerExpat
      @EagerExpat  Před měsícem +1

      I haven't had an issue using Firefox. Chrome locks up now and then. I did forget and used Chrome to buy 2 tickets the other day. It worked fine. So maybe they fixed the bug using other browsers. I found a post saying it was a Firefox website that didn't work well with other browsers. Who knows? Another option is a travel agent. They're still everywhere in Thailand

    Since you travel enough and have the Chase Sapphire Preferred, you should upgrade to the Reserve and get lounge access.

    • @EagerExpat
      @EagerExpat  Před měsícem +4

      I've had the Reserve in the past. Today I have lounge access with another card. You can only have one card in the Sapphire family. The preferred is best for me. Priority Pass is easy to get. I'm lucky to travel business or first on most long haul. I walk past the Priority Lounge and head straight to the Singapore or JAL lounge. Points are way more important to me than a card access.
