I remember playing this as a kid only to run out of quarters at the last boss. Me and my buddy found it in an arcade on a pier years later and with our adult wallets we finally beat it
đđđ»đ»
lmao same thing happened to me too, really loves this one as a kid but im stuck at the worm one. finally beating it when im at my college years lol
Amigo serias tan amable de explicarme el Lore de este juego
My old man and I beat this when I was a kid, my favorite arcade game ever.
@@sebastianbernal3827 It is about 7 great monsters that you have to kill and rahab the maker of the 5 monsters
The lore within an arcade game like this is amazing. Wish it got two more sequels.
I wonder what sea monsters they would've added in the sequel
@@kidprime6863 I think a sequel to this would focus more on mythical sea monsters than prehistoric sea creatures (mermen, deep ones, etc). But, if it were to remain using animals that did exist, Iâd say something shiny and sparkly like a giant mantis shrimp would be an excellent addition.
@@SomeGuyandanAmbulance Ningen, Ahklut, Lusca, Morgwar
@@kidprime6863 Dagon?
@@wigglerwarrior3167 Dagon was Rehab's first form
love how the ending lore revealed that 5 of the 6 monsters before Rahab was Rahab's own creation. except for Midgarsorm, who was apparently just a giant fuckass worm that was already there, as if it just lived naturally like that
Until humans hunting them
Lmao yeah
Midgarsorm was actually represented by his whole arm
@@Kira22558well they probably were eating all the fish in the sea
Giant eels working as a pack and being called a single hydra actually sounds really cool.
This was probably the same idea they used in the Greek history of Hercules. In real life, the Hydra was probably not a real nine headed monster, but many snakes in a swamp. And the idea of growing two new heads was probably because there were so many snakes, it was hard to keep count.
I like how the three boss stages for Rahab are named after different ocean deities, implying that different cultures around the world have encountered him and have their own names for him.
Also, I could be reading into this too much, but the different stages of the battle seem to reference different stages of evolution:
Dagon crawls, like a primate.
When he becomes Poseidon, he stands up, like a human.
And when he becomes Rahab, he grows a mystical third eye, implying a stage of evolution.
It could also imply how limited the deityâs powers became after he decided to seal himself away from the world once he summoned the 5 great sea monsters. If he didnât need to attack several explorers like when they started chasing after riches and fame, then he might have decided to not use all of his power if he only needed to deal with a few stragglers. In the ending it shows that Dagon/Poseidon/Rahab originally had the giant red eye open and most likely grew the smaller two as a way to still see with his power locked up.
Cool theory but Dagon was actually a deity of grain fertility and had very little connection to the ocean.
â@@bigpigeon2384 Scholars know that now, but for a long time he was believed to be a fish-god (Obviously, that's what the game developers thought).
â@@bigpigeon2384 Dagon is also the name of the god of the deep ones in Lovecraftian lore
Maybe itâs just me, but I always thought the names for the First and Third phases of the Final Boss shouldâve been rearranged; Rahab shouldâve been first, and Dagon last.
It wouldâve made more sense in terms of progression too, since Dagon is - according to Lovecraftian mythos - an ancient deity far older than any of the other deities dreamt up by humanity, and it wouldâve made the whole âRahab suddenly growing a third eye and turning into a demonic fish/mantis hybridâ thing make more sense.
7:42 That's actually accurate. Many classic depictions of Naga in Thailand is very similar to the ocean going Oarfish. In fact, US soldiers in Thailand were once accused of killing a Naga, and the proof is a photograph of those soldiers holding up an Oarfish they caught.
Just like how sirens are both bird-like, and fish-like in myths yet most things only ever show them as mermaids.
If House of the Dead could get a remake, then so should this game. The soundtrack to this game is phenomenal.
Agreed! Honestly just the atmosphere and lore themselves makes me wish Sega gave this game another shot. A remake would be a good start too.
The ending theme sounds like "Memory" from Cats
Sea Serpent had a Predator yell didnt it??
I'm hoping for a remake of this and CarnEvil
@@fatcat1 - You need to tell me more about CarnEvil. I am intrigued.
Man that final monologue goes so hard for an arcade game
The intro and ending deserve a award of how much lore and story they put into the game. It's impressive. And the way that Midgardsorm swallows the player and the mid boss reminds me of bloop the sea monster.
I love how the Sea Serpent, Naga, Karkinos, Basilosaurus
, Vritra & Kaliya all use the Predator roar SFX.
And the long echoing roar Rahab and his forms use is from Dragonheart
Alot of them use xenomorph sounds to and i even heard some mothra sounds how is this not copyright?
Sea dragon appears if you save the diver from white death aim for his jaw
I really wish arcades brought back rare and interesting arcade games like these... I only managed to see this one time at a six flags and never seen one again. It's just sad that most places like bowling allies and movie theaters have the same games... Jurassic Park, the terminator, alien, some racing game, and the same ticket dispenser games... another reason why arcades are dying.
I know what you mean dude. Jurassic Park was THE arcade rail-shooter for me when I was a kid. And another kid would jump in with me, stack of quarters at the ready and trigger fingers prepped.
@@metal_gear_rayquaza8914 wait is it the one where the T. rex chases you one if so I always played that one
Dude I saw this at a Walmart arcade back when I was like 7. Iâve been looking for this video for years. Glad I wasnât the only one.
When I was a kid, I found one at a Bowling Alley and then on a cruise ship my dad took me on. I really appreciated the irony of the latter one.
Great game. Sea monsters and shooting. What's not to love.
Cool. Thanks.
And here your not really after the sharks even though you need to kill them your after those 6 sea monsters that sink ships.
I can think of a lot, tbh.
I am so glad you uploaded this! When I was a kid they had this game next to this shake shop out in Disney World and I think the whole place is gone now. It was my absolute favorite and could never find another arcade that carried it since. Thank you for this walk down memory lane. Was a wonderful surprise.
Bruh just emulate it
Ha! Thatâs funny, I also played it for the first time at Disney World. It was at a place on the boardwalk.
I played this game with my dad in an arcade in Spain when we were on holidays while I could only have been 5 or 6. Good times. Never saw this game despite looking for it in every arcade I visited for years after, and I never thought about it again until now. Thanks for reminding me!
Yo también lo jugaba con mi padre

16:48 - Ooof. Have yet to see an emulation where Umi-bozu's model didn't glitch out.
From what I remember that also happened in the actual arcade machines.
Iâm pretty sure that a lot of the boss roars came from Predator.
P.S. 4:31 Whatâs interesting is that in 2008, they discovered a creature which they named after the biblical Leviathan, Livyatan melvillei, but ironically, while it did exist alongside the Megalodon, it was not a shark at all, but rather a carnivorous whale.
interesting, did you know that whales had gone to land at one point and then returned to sea? they were wolflike on land it seems.
@@MrLogicallyrandom I thought they started out on land and eventually got into the sea.
Uh that's not how it works! They didn't discover a creature named after the leviathan. They discovered a creature, then they named it after the leviathan. That kind of has nothing to do with this game.
@@MrLogicallyrandom nope. The common ancestors of land animals went onto land, then their descendants, which are the ancestors of whales, went into the water. Totally different concept.
Thatâs what Iâm saying
I love how they just throw whatever names they could find in the sea creatures and myth into this game bosses.
@Southern Shinobi whoa their Karen, just because he/she didn't know that doesn't mean you start acting like a child.
@Southern Shinobi ah yes useless ass info that only a small percentage of people really need should be forced on everyone, how educated of you
@Southern Shinobi you must be fun at parties. Also the game has a megalodon as Leviathan, even though the actual creature is a biblical demon in the form of a sea serpent who is also the archdemon of envy in the Hainsfield classification. Hey that stick out of your ass
*get
@Southern Shinobi Oh, spelling mistake. Instead*
This game really needs a reboot.
I was thinking the exact same thing
@@lamarmartin9401 and when they do make a reboot I bet the monsters can talk and also i hope they exclude Midgarsorm because it doesnât make any sense for it to be one of them if it was not created by Rahab west ocean was more of a bonus level than a true level also maybe in the reboot Rahab will have a brother.
i was so pissed this and Lets Go Jungle never got ported to the Wii like House of the Dead 2/3 and LA Machineguns.
I even had a dream like that

Words cannot describe on how i really missed this game on the arcade
Watching this I thought "It's really cool how, outside of the dinosaurs, these are all legitimate animals that are simply absolutely gigantic."
And then fucking Dagon showed Up.
The roaring off the serpent is the predator roar from the movie predator
Yeah, I've noticed several other monsters in this game use the recycled Predator roar
Yeah me too
Hydra is the Xeno queen
This is a true classic. Iâd always find my way to Ocean Hunter
When i was a kid, my dad would take me to arcades now and then. This and house of the dead were my favorite things to play together with him.
Wow! The animal diversity in this game is amazing!
Itâs criminal more people donât know about this game, it deserves a remaster
I used to play this in the arcades ages ago. I love the underwater theme. So nostalgic
Man I love this game so much. I'm not really scares me when I was a kid but now I understand the lore it's quite Lovecraftian.
Well the last bossâ form is also called Dagon
I LOVE THIS GAMEEEE IM SO GLAD YOU MADE THIS VIDEO!!!!!
*Taken from an old FAQ for this game:*
"Name: Vritra & Kaliya
Description: Two large oarfish, though not as large as Naga. Vritra is electric blue, while Kaliya is thunderbolt gold.
Getting close when: You defeat Black Dragon.
Difficulty: Ten.
Strategy: Get ready for pain.
Vritra & Kaliya WILL take quite a few quarters from your pocket, or even dollars from your wallet. They are extremely difficult, and beating them is as much luck as skill. They're lightning fast and so thin they can be hard to hit. They each have a Sunburst Area on their chin, but it is even harder to shoot. The only element of this fight that works in your favor is that they have separate lifebars.
Choose either Vritra or Kaliya, it doesn't matter. DO NOT let up on the triggers, at any time during this fight. Follow your chosen sea snake as best you can, attacking the other one only when it is obvious that an attack is coming your way.
Once Vritra (or Kaliya) is dead, things get a little easier, but not too much. Obviously, now you must concentrate your fire on Kaliya (or Vritra). When they've both gone down, pat yourself on the back; you've earned it."
*LMAO I really don't know what this guy was smoking. They look easy as crap to beat.*
Half of the creatures make the predator sound effect, i just love it
This is one of the games I would love to see get ported in like a Sega arcade collection or something.
I LOVED this game!
I remember always returning to this game every birthday at a place called Kids Aerobics. The arcade wasn't the mythic neon landscape I imagine old school counterparts were, it was barely wider than my house. But it had some worthwhile games. I remember dying to the Octopus and begging my Mom to back me up. Probably the closest to couch co-op I every got as a kid when I barely had knowledge or money for games. This presentation with the narration, music, and stylized art for the wanted posters and end credits makes this worth remembering. It's probably the most obscure game I haven't forgotten about.
Can't quite get over murdering rare sea creatures tho, at least the small ones. Reminds me of terrorizing innocent dinos in Monster Hunter. Like I wanna take photos of the last dodo not cook it. Fun game tho.
Dame this game looks sick why have I never heard of it before, man I miss light gun games
I remember playing this with my friend at Craig's Cruisers we were able to finally beat the bosses.
Brooooo yes I played the shit out of this game at Craigâs Cruisers. This and House of the Dead 2, and DDR Supernova. I loved that place
oh man i love this, i remember as a wee kid we had this game in the arcade hall.. i was really bad at it but i was always in awe of how awsome and epic this game was and the arcade itself was like crazy.. big ass mounted guns in a submarine-esque cabine it was wild.
I absolutely loved playing this terrific classic of a game imagine my delight also hearing the roars and screams of both Predator and the Alien Queen used for the monsters
I remember this game gave me the absolute willies as a little kid.
Never seen this arcade game until now, thank you for sharing!

HOLY SHIT I FINALLY FOUND IT
I played this game from start to finish with my grandad at an arcade and completely forgot the name of it- then it just randomly appears in my recommended.
Oh nostalgia! Always play this in cinema before movie time.
i found this by chance at an arcade and played all the way through until I beat it. Was not ready for the switch at the end with the final boss. Very cool and unique game.
18:00 nice cut
This may be the 2nd time you've introduced me to a game with a great concept that Ive never heard or seen before
This thing is my childhood.... It feels great seeing it again
An great SuperModel3 legend from SEGA if there ever was one in the annals of on-rail shooter arcade history! Thanks for sharing!
I really love this OST. I just love this grand orchestral sound.
I feel like I just rediscovered a core memory. The local airport when I was in elementary school had one of these, but I never managed to get past Scylla. Crazy to see just how much more there was that little tiny me never even encountered.
Man I loved this game. Happy I was able to beat it before I ever saw it again.
Good soundtrack and beautiful narration
my jam at the arcade. Loved getting into that little submarine and hammer into those cannons
YO I FORGOT ABOUT THIS
I used to play this at my fav movie theater every birthday I had there, but one day it was removed. I will never forget how much fun this was.
Damn, pissed I missed this one. Looks like pure gold.
Jesus, I thought I'd dreamed this game. Watching it now, I remember getting nightmares about Medusa of all bosses.
I recently went to the arcade that used to have this game.. Broke my heart to find it was gone.
this was my jam whenever we went to main event. so sick
Sitting here, watching this, I'm surprised nobody wrote a creepy pasta about this game, especially with how some of the monsters come at you head on
I don't know the lore of the game but poor animals.
I searched for years for this game and I remember that the old Putting and Arcade place had one. I went to them to see if they had it and they had put it storage since it was so outdated. I bought off them for dirt cheap since they didnât know how rare the game was. Iâm actively working on fixing and cleaning it.
I remember this one. It was the first arcade game I ever played to completion
The way the announcer says their name before the fight is cool and eerie as hell
I loved this game growing up!!!đđ
I played this game with my older brother when we were kids, a small arcade in a bowling alley in Panama đ”đŠ I remember the hard scratched up yellow plastic seat and the pristine conditions the arcade guns were in. Probably because the game was so good no one wanted to mess it up lol aww core memories
If im not mistaken this game was also available in extreme planet, before the remodelation around 2005 I think. Thats were I played, this and star wars trilogy arcade. I miss that place.
Yes, the machine was made with yellow plastic.... I still remember playing with my dad back when I was a toddlee
Woaaaaahhh that had a deep ending (no pun intended)
Holy shit. I remember playing this game as a kid in the arcade! I never finished it though, sadly.
This game is so underrated, it needs a remake.
It's like if Monster hunter world and Subnautica had an epic retro child
This game would be absolutely terrifying with an hd remaster
Good. God. The memories that flooded my mind from the intro alone...
How this game never got a console release is beyond me
The game looks amazing would love to see a remaster.
Wow never thought underwater house of the dead could be this amazing!
Iâve never seen this game but I think the final boss is the most nightmare fuel thing Iâve seen in this life and Iâm only 16 about 89 more years of hell to go
A retro arcade named Time Line Arcade in York, PA has the original sit down cabinet version of The Ocean Hunter, the only thing is the player 2 gun controller needs replacement parts that are very hard to find so while it's playable player 2 has a distinct disadvantage when aiming. My nephew and I have to play the game all the way through every time we go there, it's a tradition.
really really hard nostalgia. that music is incredible. Like im standing in a target in 98', in a line to play the Star Fox 64 Demo, and hearing the Corneria music.
