Two issues: 1) Not quick, 2) minifigs a little out of focus.
Finally, comments!
i think this set well be populair :D its cool
u are right jang
JANGBRiCKS I’m just glad we can actually comment
Good job Jang! Great video!
I love little specific builds like this. Just random shops, more buildings, and what-not. I wish LEGO focused on the actual 'city' aspect of LEGO City rather than police and firefighting.
Exactly same here. I love sets like City Square or City corner in past, because they usually have that for the city (like shops, buildings and cars). While ago there were "Donut shop opening" and "City capital set". Those were pretty good.
Police and firefighting are important, but they are not all that is in a city! Totally agree with you
Also abandoned buildings too, adds character to a city
I like the idea that the car salesman is selling the smart car, even tho he has been regularly using it until he actually sells it. Lol
Reminds me of Bill Paxton's character from True Lies.....the sleezy car salesman who uses the cars on his lot to try and impress chicks
Maby he is really poor and has to sell his own car to pay for bills
the motorcycle is my favorite
They missed an opportunity to have the wheel on the sign be able to dial the door back and forth.
wanted to say the same thing as well, and I even expected it to work like that before he opened it. For the rest it still looks like a nice play set.
Devin Paul oh that is a great idea indeed❤️👍
Sorry late getting back, didn't get updates for this, but thanks, ya'll!
Nah fam, red spinny thing for every action feature these days. 🤷♂️
Devin Paul good ideas dude
This set reminded me so much of small-town folklore - as there are many small towns in the US, so they are in South Africa.
Every small town has to have the local "backyard mechanic" in a tuning shop just like this one - exactly which made this set appeal to me so much.
We even have a colloquial term for what you mention is the gantry crane - here it is generally referred to as a "block 'n' tackle" (for reasons yet unexplained...)
In addition to the two named characters in the set, I would have named the used car salesman Marty Slick, owner of Honest Marty's Used Cars - this is almost my favourite aspect of the whole set.
I couldn't wait for it to be released, so I got mine before Christmas eve...
I think the designers of this set have a great sense of humour, and I can certainly appreciate it.
I also enjoy your new style of reviewing - where we can put a face to the voice.
Looking forward to your next review!
Quit fooling around, LEGO. We all can see that “Tread Octane” is Travis Touchdown from No More Heroes under a different alias.
I was thinking the same thing lmao.
Son Wookong oh my god he is
The hair, the sunglasses...
Yup, that's him alright.
And with yellow skin
I wish they focused more on the garage and less on the vehicles
I wish the cars were less riced.
The Artistic Alien 1 car was riced...
The Legged one, I believe the overall set was nice, you get a nice amount of cars to tune up, and the garage in my opinion was nice, thought through well by lego, with the whole beam and the welding helmets, along with the materials and computer, the garage was nice, wish there were more mini figs to go with the garage staff.
I agree a bigger garage and no car dealership or motorcycle
Octane is giving me wolverine vibes! 😂 Also this set feels like $75 US to me based on what you get
Na think about how much the 3 main cars would cost as sets. They would be about 15$ to 18$ each.
Yeh this is the coolest Logan type figure out there 👍
It's $99 at Target...painful. 🤣💸
I agree, 75 is fair considering you get new molds for the motorcycle and bulldog.
I'm not a big fan of the truck. Seems like they just recycled the ATV Race Team truck.
$75 is the best option.
I like everything, except for the hotrod. This is a nice set.
I love older cars and hot rods but the hot rod build in this set is bad, the back wheels are too far back, there is a lot of gaps, they used a car base for the chassis which was a huge mistake, it just doesn’t work. The hot rod in the 75875 set it probably the best I’ve seen.
i have this set the hotrods color is a bit darker witch makes look alot better
FOR... 100 dollars
Yes, comments are back!
What's ur point
@@Jeffees comments were gone
Just got this set. Great review. I love that the used car sign shares the exact facial expression of the salesman. I agree that the tow truck boom is just "OK." I was pleasantly surprised that they included TWO welding helmets! I think my biggest problem with this set is the stickers. I feel like Lego needs some new graphic designers. The signage lately feels overly modern? I would love to see lego offering more brick-built signage.
Yea I want those welding helmets but for 100 dollars just is not worth it
I really wanted this set for a while but I went to Lego store and saw they had the downtown fire brigade, the one with the big ladder engine for the same price 90£ in uk, I ended up buying that instead coz I felt it was better value, I can’t afford to buy Lego all the time so I was so torn in the shop.
I would easily pay $5-10 if the doghouse was a individual set
you shold pay $7
Same
It seems like something that would be in a poly bag
I like your new “on camera” review style Jang! This set looks like my 10 year old’s dream set!
The Speed Champions line should do some kind of garage for cars other than specific Ferraris. I picture something inspired by a Fast and Furious garage.
Yea they should have, because now they are not doing those or small sidebuilds anymore for 8-stud wide ones (designer said so). Ferrari ultimate garage, Porsche pit and Mercedes F1 team were the only ones...
The set where the small car actually came out first was released in 2010, so this is technically a 10th anniversary re-release of it.
Interesting.
SecretAgentYaya there was set with a car in I believe either 2006 or 2007 that had the same build that was the original version of this car but in black and white. Which was then released again in a Lego movie set.
$80
Jang lives his life one quarter mile at a time.
The trailer reminds me a set that I had years ago. It had two prop planes, a jeep and a trailer. Loved that set.
This set review really helped me understand why the 8-stud wide cars in newer sets are so loved/so much more detailed.
When you were discussing the value of the garage, I thought $25 was appropriate for the (hollow) size, larger base, and inclusion of some functional pieces. The fact that you settled on the same value is a good sign the set is US$10 overpriced. I feel the overall value is about $85.
It appears LEGO is working off of a "smart demand" model. What I mean by this is that sets have a slight initial markup so that the sale price is the actual intended retail. Thus, when you see a set you particularly want, you're more willing to go out and pay the markup price to get it sooner, rather than wait for the first sales. As sets tend to naturally devalue while on the shelves, the trick is to wait a month or two to buy the set at actual value. However, smart marketing means taking advantage of the fact that many people will willingly pay the initial markup rather than wait for the set to deflate to its value price.
This is an intelligent way to sell product, as it helps cover the potential losses from sets in that wave that end up as poor sellers. When demand for the product outweigh the ability to wait a few weeks, those buyers pay a higher price. However, those who wait for this initial demand period to end will find the sets at a more reasonable price, either through sales or through in-store markdowns. AS a result, this set should be as low as $80 (20% markdown) within two months of hitting the shelves in many locations, which is an excellent price for the overall set value. The trick is to just wait out that initial markup, which today's consumer society doesn't have the patience for as a whole.
I thought 50 to 60 was good because some of the cars were kind of meh
Huh. Nice to learn that
Did someone remember Jeremy Clarkons rocket bike? It seems to me that that's the inspiration for the motorcycle
Loving the new video format Jang, the new setup looks great and I’m so glad you haven’t given up because of COPPA, I’ve been watching your videos since I was 6, that was 7 years ago. You’ve been apart of a million kids childhoods and kept so many of us into LEGO. You’ve been an influence on me as I’ve grown up and I want to say thank you, Jang, thank you
I appreciate the inclusion of several vehicles considering it's a repair shop. My personal favorites in this set are the new welding masks, trailer and that awesome unisex torso the female is wearing. I agree with you Jang, the price point is a bit in the steep side. If the price drops below $60.00..consider it sold. Great video sir.
This set is giving me nostalgia vibes from some of the sets I got in the 90s! Like the Hot rod garage and Rescue rig.
As someone who works at a machine shop, I love the build for the drill press! And the doghouse is so cute! Thanks for the review Jang!
Wouldn't that be a bearing press, in an automotive shop?
They’re still using that smart car build? I remember getting that thing in a set by itself way back when.
I like it. They're staying true to at least that factor and not making it into a six wide car for 40 dollars
This set looks amazing, I love it when Lego makes hotrods. The tow truck isn't bad either I just wish it were a bit cheaper
I'm so glad that you're back and I really like the new format.
Just picked it up for $50 in Walmart clearance, cant wait ti build!
I just got this set for my brother. Already planned on where its gonna go in our city and going to start it next week. Once its put together the first thing I'm going to do with it is fill in some of the walls on the building.
Upon first impression, it seems like a ok set.
i really like the quality and style of these newer builds im glad to see lego is constantly improving even on the smallest details
I love this set the cars the bulldog everything about this I like thanks for the great review jang keep up the good work
Hey Jang, thanks for great review as always! I'd say, the garage itself would worth its value if it had maybe a one more activity to do in it. Crane - nice, tools, welding - nice, but something else, like, maybe, a lift for car repair? So the garage would be a little bit bigger, and the area for moving the crane a little bit smaller, but two major activites to do.
The dog house is the best part of the set.
ya it is cool
After watching this video few times I understand, that i need this in my collection. Order it. wait for delivery! So exiting!
Something i always loved about Lego was the creativity and imagination around it. I feel like Lego doesn't follow the same dimension's as real life
Looks like a fun set, love the gearheads and welding masks. The trailer is cute
Great, detailed build descriptions.
Thank you!
I really like this sub theme. I would have fallen in love with it as a kid as I used to be a big fan of cars and anything car related. But even as an adult, I really appreciate how believable they have made these with a whole bunch of details that add to the story. Details like the dog house with a small tree attached, the street sign outside the garage, the used cars saleseman's home, it really gives you a full package that is ripe with stories to tell. I don't have the budget to buy sets regularly, especially pricy ones like this one, but I hope this theme gets enough support that LEGO start considering adding details like this for regular city sets too (tbh I really like some of the new city stuff too, so they are not that far off).
bro
I think this was one of my favorite 2020 sets. Certainly my favorite non D2C one.
This might be the Best City set in Years. Great Job Lego & Great Video Jang!!
Loving the new format of your videos!!!
I wanted to see the jack stand and tow truck in use...that's ok. This set is pretty exciting. I'm adding to my wish list. Thanks for the great video 👍
Nice set.
Thanks for a review!
Okay so for the last month I've some how only watched videos of you from behind the camera. I was almost startled when I saw your face for the first time, like WOAH wait what, I wasn't expecting to know what you look like! Haha! Hi! :)
thank you so much I love the green tuning car.
Thank you for the review, Jang. I own my own toy store was reluctant to get this one for my shop, mostly because of the price point. I do love the building and the number of vehicles but I feel like we should get a little more for $100. I may give it another look.
This reminds me a lot of that custom garage set released back in 2008
I like the hot rod the best out of this. And the tow truck is neat as well.
I really like that new bike part. It’s nice to see a new version 👍🏻
The trailer and the workshop garage are my favorite builds from this set.
I like that truck. Very smooth and tidy.
The tow truck, the garage and the dog house are pretty sweet looking
Yes comments!!
I just wanted to say CZcams randomly recommended 1 of your videos to me in early January this year, and ever since I've been buying Lego sets as a new fan.
Overall this set pleases me greatly. I bought it for myself for Christmas when I found it in a store a week early :D
I do wish the tow truck lift arm was both better looking and more functional. Beyond that I don’t really have any major complaints.
The one I've been waiting for!
It’s ok jang, you are still my favorite LEGO youtuber.
Was so sad when details of the set where introduced - had hopes for an actual tuning shop where you could modify cars by replacing parts with ... well ... tuning parts.
Nothing like that in the set. :(
It's modern LEGO City, do you expect them to have a large, detailed structure?
This video has helped me rebuild the set with out the instructions
Such an amazing set simply because of the new Bulldog piece!
This set should be 90$! (Like the last two years' sets in this category)
The amount of new design and thoughtfulness. New dog and welders mask. There’s a lot of things that beg you to play with especially the shop
I’m going to copy that car in a few colors and just put them out in a lot with this trailer in it. It’s a nice little edition to the empty space I need to fill in my city
At first with the simple car designs, was thinking present for a kid, but that Garage & Dog/house is just perfect... So guess I'll get two!
Awesome video thank you
I have made so many MOC colorways and slightly modified versions of that smart car. I created one in a nifty yellow and grey colorway that included a rear fender.
I love this set. great video.
Enjoyed building this, being more familiar with 90’s LEGO buildings and sets I really enjoyed the extra complexity and detail. Do wish they included more hand tools like a wrench, hammer etc to fill out the workbench. Agree on the price though, felt it should have been more around the $85-$90 range but I was eager to expand my city I’ve just started :D
I'm completely on your side there. To me, it seems like an $85 set. And I always admire how much care you put into your videos, always trying to be accurate and honest.
I thought we were buying an auto shop here, didn’t need to squeeze in the car sales lot
still a nice bonus though.
This is really cool my dad has taught me about cars and what not and I have my own old truck to work on and this legos set is just awesome I want it
Happy to see more of your face, and hope an alternative to CZcams arises that treats its content creators better.
I'll follow you so long as you make stuff, thanks for doing what you do my guy.
I love your vids and passion man!
I think its really cool how the The Smart car is just like a clasic Lego car from the 80s. It's the smallest official Lego city car but back in the 80s all cars where like this.
I love this new studio
so glad to see comments being enabled again :) its just a so much better viewing experience to read the other opinions in the comments after watching your videos :)
Cool set!
Such cool engineering on that lift lever. Love this multiple-vehicle set! I agree on your price assessment, and think it should be 75 bucks tops (US) and perhaps 70 Euro here in Europe. Also , i think , as a kid, i had that cool lady Mini-Fig you allude to, the one that this lady fig invokes in our nostalgic minds. Great work, review and thoughts , Bossman:)
A very cool and unique set.
Nice that they give you a diverse set of cars, with a modern tuner and an old classic style hotrod. A towtruck with an actual mechanism and not just a hook like the older versions is nice bonus. That rocket cycle kind of scares me though lol.
Put the scrap pile/junk yard on the side the door slides open to. Spacing problem solved! Kinda neat, when is the last time LEGO gave City an actual garage of some kind?
I might buy this set. Also Jangbricks if you are reading this you have inspired me to do CZcams videos on legos.
The smart car design was also used on the 7939 yellow cargo train. It’s been around forever!!!
I actually ordered it 2 days ago. Idk when it will come. SUPER EXCITED
Aww, I came in 1 hour late. I ordered this set yesterday to start making a Factory (it was supposed to go in Octan colors but these are better), I will see what I will do with the cars and such. Have a happy day and I will make a video once I have started the factory.
this is an amazing set
The minifigs are really cool in this set. It's super expensive in Sweden. Lego just raised the prices with around 30 % on this years sets compared to last years sets, which is a bit insane since the inflation in Sweden is about 2 % per year ....
Epic review
i just got this set. I love it and spent under $100 Australian for it in store.
Cool set 😀
I honestly believe that the smart car is for sale at a used car lot because that type of car has been around in the lego world for a long time. Starting with the airport sets, then two of them where on a cargo train set, then the lego movie set, then the center city set with the electric version. Now this one
That smart car is begging for that huge motor swap!
Great video.
Gotta love that bulldog
It's amazing how much baseplate is missing from this set. Sets in the 90s had fewer parts, but looked better thanks to the plates.
I love this set I want it!
price is relevant and all. might consider getting this. thanks for the review!
this is a great set for kids. lots to play with.
if I was a child I'd love it.
I just ordered this set I'm pretty excited to get it built and put into Gotham city it has the feel I'm going with the color palate fits it's not to bright. I wanted to do something different city than most ppl do so I went with Gotham it will have the dark dirty feel where most citys are bright and clean.
"Jowls" Genius
Nice set.
The old blue jack would be a nice addition to this set.
Being a car guy and liking legos still I'm gonna get this set also the hot rod I think the rear axle needs moved forward a stud
