  • The Conservative Party is battling to hold on to one of its heartland seats in Uxbridge and South Ruislip on June 20.
A by-election triggered by the resignation of Boris Johnson could see the area fall to Labour for the first time this century.
In a Telegraph documentary, the Conservative candidate Steve Tuckwell says the seat has become the “Western front” against Sadiq Khan’s expansion of the Ultra-Low Emission Zone in outer London.

BJohnson thought up ULEZ ! B Johnson’s government called for the expansion ! Didn’t the government say expand or put the extra covid cost on council tax ?

He thought about it, but when it was clear of what the consequences would be. He was against it.
Unlike Sadiq who doubled down, regardless of the negative consequences

This is incredible. The groundwork for ULEZ was introduced by Boris Johnson while as Mayor of London

But that's unfair as he only intended it for central London
Khan wanted to expand it. Even Boris was against that

It doesn’t matter who set the groundwork for ulez, khan is the one who’s implementing it. Labour will never win the general election with this unfair tax on the poorest people in London. Voting for labour with this ulez is like turkey voting for Christmas!

What can an MP do about a Mayoral initiative? The Tories are desperate.

  • @AgentGreyFox

Boris introduced ULEZ and signed up to the expansion while PM. Joke business. Wasn't Brexit a single issue based on Tory lies? Nothing was bigger than that. ULEZ had improved air quality.

I would not put much faith in trying to predict the outcome of the Uxbridge by-election by going off the back of vox pops like these. More than 48,000 Uxbridge constituents cast a vote in the 2019 general election - the people interviewed here only amount to a very small percentage of that number.

If Mr Tuckwell admits Ruislip has a goddawful local transport situation, why the heck doesn't he fix that instead of blaming the much-needed Ulez protocol he can do damn-all about anyway? He's lying when he says the Tories have any agency in changing it.

"The chair of Uxbridge and South Ruislip Constituency Labour Party has quit his role and the party after Labour’s narrow defeat in the by-election, saying politics needs “principles”.
David Williams made the announcement and apparent attack on leader Keir Starmer on social media just hours after Labour candidate Danny Beales came within a few hundred votes of taking the outer London seat from the Conservatives for the first time."

Given that the anthropocene age began in 1950 ..Brexit was extremely idealized self- imposition for Tories who have historically captured Labor.
Perhaps there is no one better to understand the need for increases than the people who will spend them.
That will make Tories feel good...all they needed to do to slip away with the vote of the majority...a good idea may still be worth less than paying for improvements.
They should tell the public what build back better will do before psychics are employed at NHI or at Parliamentary level..as they once were ,of course.

Scottish Tories do this sort of thing but it does not fool all of the people all of the time or even a majority.
