How to Assemble a Backplate and Wing DIR Tecline Peanut

  • I have come across too many divers adopting a backplate and wing setup but not really knowing how to set them up nor adjust them by themselves. Often I see the staff in the local dive shop setting up the equipment. As I'm a firm believer in establishing some form of intimacy with gear, I don't agree with the practice for many reasons. Perhaps the biggest one being that the divers don't really know how things work or why and how to adjust the rig properly.
Here's a very simple how-to on putting each component on, from the webbing all the way through to the single tank adapter. I wanted to put this out there as a guide for divers who want to assemble their own stuff, and perhaps by doing so understand how it all comes together. The configuration is for Recreational Diving, although Technical configurations pretty much share the same concept with the addition of a few more bits here and there. Gear here is a DIR kit from Tecline. It's a Peanut 16 Asymmetric which is a single tank wing. I'll upload an unboxing sometime later.
This video won't cover adjusting the rig on a diver, for that there are several out there, of course I'd recommend this one by InnerSpace Explorers.

Once again, I credit @ikson for his music and his genius.

Thank loads for this video, just received my travel peanut set with the comfort arnes and there is no instructions for assembly which is quite bad for @tecline. thanks!!

Go for it! Just a bit of note, not all are as simple. But the video helps get through the process. If you have any questions, feel free to message. Cheers!

I have issue adjusting the tri glider (with teeth). Seems harder to adjust compared to the one that you have here. Am I doing anything wrong?

@@tanjongjara6614 No, but they're really meant to bite down. It really depends on how thick your webbing is. Sorry for the late reply.

Hello,I have a question ,how do I get in and out a for harness that is not adjustable ??

    • @appliedtechnicaldiving6198

Hi Mike, thanks for the question. It all boils down to fitting it properly. The shoulder harness shouldn't be too tight. Maximum distance between your front shoulder/chest to your webbing should be about a closed fist if it's properly suited to you. Note that I say maximum. The shoulder webbings should neither be too tight that it restricts movement (diver should always be free to move arms in all directions front, back, cross, etc), nor too loose that it falls out of your shoulder when worn. Part of the pros and cons of diving a wing and backplate setup, unfortunately. If it fits well, then it's magic. If it isn't configured right, it leaves a confusing taste in the mouth. Most of the tension should be waist and crotch strap. Properly fitting it to the diver is key. Too tight, and it will never be comfortable and simple to use.
Assuming it's fitted right, personally, I go right arm first, then slide my left arm elbow-first into the left webbing. Getting out, I do left hand leading the left arm out, then right arm. I hope this helps. There are other ways of course. Just narrating how I do it.

maybe help to add a screw in hole while assembling to hold webbing in place

Hi Lee, I just saw your message. Do you mean the hole that aligns with the top hole of the backplate?

Just wondering, is this the standard or hard webbing?

    • @juannaval541
      @juannaval541 Před rokem +1

Hi Fabian, neither. It's somewhat of a medium that I got from a local dive shop. I found the webbing it originally came with to be too much on the soft side.

@@juannaval541 Thanks for the info! I'm about to pull the trigger on one of their BPWs and was wondering which one of the three types of webbing to go with.
Are you happy with the Tecline system in general?
