The range of emotions, from cockiness, to rage, to sorrow that Harman displayed was impressive here. I think that's why Dennis was such a great character. He had many layers

This is a cracking scene. Only Dorothy could get through to him. Their friendship was very special and it's because of this he became and still is my favourite male character of all time
Nigel Harman was brilliant in this scene. Such a complete actor. June Brown (Dot Cotton) at the end. Just perfect writing.

This is why I love Dot. She sees the innocence and good in people that others can’t even when they are at their worst. It was like she could see in his eyes that he never meant to hurt anyone except Dirty Den. When she went up to Dennis it was like he just folded because I don’t think anyone has done that for him when he lashes out. I swear if Christianity was a person it should be Dot and this is coming from me, a Satanist😂. I love Dot so much, one of the greatest characters in soap history IMO 🥰.
Aye! I agree, Dot it is pretty much the only character who's ever lived on the square who is just someone great to get on with and look up to, I'd happily live with her and make her cups of teas all day bless her cotton socks! 👌☕🤣

I’ve seen the first 55 episodes I think of Eastenders from 1985. I struggle to find the rest 😂.

@j04370859 yes but dennis was actually sleeping with Sharon den wasn't. Also den adopted Sharon when she was 3 years old and always treat her like his actual bloodline daughter so you can understand why den reacted the way he did
I always hated Den Watts. But poor Dennis. I can't believe that the others there didn't realize it was an accident. Dot was wonderful to him. They could've done so many more great story lines. They should never have killed Dennis off.
Kat with her big mouth trying to start it up just angry because Dennis dumped her. Den was horrible man. I always thought Chrissy killed him in self defense because he would have killed her otherwise. Covering it up and framing Zoe was her crime. Den wanted his family together but he didn't treat them well. The only one he ever seemed to care anything about was Sharon.
He was even more of a villain in Bernard's Watch

How someone’s father can mock there own child’s abuse is disgusting. It may have been accidental at first but he know by Dennis’ reaction that it was true. Brilliantly acted, back in the day when eastenders was actually good.

Den really caused this. What a great performance from Nigel Harman did as Dennis and his relationship with Dot was really touching cos he was there for her when she was going thru her cancer and she’s there for him when he was down.
No Dennis caused it he's the man he should have not slept with Sharon it was wrong.

Yeah, my Daddy is the only one who calls my mum by her first name. She, everyone, even her own mother, my nan, used to call her by her middle name.
My Dad's the only one who calls me by my full first name too (he named me when I was born). Plus a pet name he he's always called me. And ONLY HE'S allowed to call me that lol. Anyone else does and we both shoot the "oh no you di'nt" look 😂
This is when I really started to hate Den. I felt so bad for Dennis he let his emotions get the better of him because of rage from Den's words. He hit Sharon accidentally but they were acting like he did it on purpose.
Ohhhh I loved Dot so much. She was the mother figure to him, and he was the son to her that they'd both always wanted for themselves... The only one that could truly keep Dennis in check and he was the only one she felt she could really open herself up to. The way he'd looked after her and would happily kick anyone's ass for her... And the way she'd be there for him and defended/protected and wouldn't hear a bad word said about him... She could always see and try to bring out the best in them.

I have never forgotten this scene, ever since I first saw it at the time! Just superb! I always loved the relationship Dot had with Dennis, ever since he first helped her in the Caf.

Den was horrible here. He didn't need to sink so low. He just wanted him to loose it. He just wanted him to be able to hit back to make it look like he was out of control to a packed pub. Even though Dennis accidentally hits Sharon she stood by him at the end of it all she was going to run away with him until Phil got him killed.

@@gemstar7286 Phil got Dennis Rickman killed. Phil talked to other people beforehand and set Dennis up to be killed. Dennis got killed so he couldn't leave the square with Sharon. They were going to go away start a new life together and Phil helped to get Dennis killed.
@@gemstar7286 Phil manipulated Dennis into killing Johnny. Dennis obviously didn’t kill Johnny but he battered him enough to get murdered for it.
Really wish Phil encountered this version of Dennis during their feud. I mean, Phil would definitely still edge him but he would have a harder time dealing with him if Dennis was as enraged as this. Dennis was so unhinged and enraged at Den here that not even two men could restrain him (I think if there was no one else there, he would have battered Den) and he only calmed down when he accidentally punched Sharon.
