I read that it suffices just to turn on the heater at max without starting the engine, so you can unscrew the bleeder completely and watch the process of bubbling without leaking.
i think before you fill the tank with water coolant, turn off machine and you can fill the tank then closed the tank tightly. After that turn on machine and open air preasure for radiator slightly until all air in tank radiator gone and closed it.
Yoga IMHO, when we do the bleeding process, some coolant will come out from the bleeding screw and some other will re-enter the reservoir. During the process, coolant automatically will be reduced. To make sure coolant still in the proper level, we should see the reservoir, so the cap should be opened. We can immediately add the coolant when reduced
When can I do this ? I mean .. is it ok to do this in the morning so the engine would be cool , or do it after I do a couple ride so the engine would be in a normal heat?
It's okay when you do this bleeding process when the engine still in cool condition. If you do this process when the engine in over heat condition, you have to wait a few minutes to lower the engine and coolant temperature. Be careful when you open the radiator cap when the engine in hot condition.

siyap. salam dari nubie om... 1. Sepengetahuan saya, untuk proses bleeding di BMW sama seperti ini om 2. Kalo sy pribadi. setelah proses bleeding, mesin tetap saya hidupkan dan nunggu jarum indikator temperatur di posisi tengah, setelah jarum diposisi tengah biasanya beberapa saat kemudian electric fan (EF) bakalan nyala. Jika EF nyala dan jarum temperatur tetap di tengah, tandanya proses bleeding berhasil. 3. ganti pake coolant boleh om, terlebih dahulu kuras sampai habis air biasanya. pake coolant atau air biasa tergantung dari pemiliknya sih om karena penggunaan coolant masih ada perdebatannya jg. ada yg bilang, katanya (katanya ya om :)) "kalo awalnya pake air terus ganti coolant bisa menyebabkan daleman mesin malah bikin keropos, karena coolant itu mengandung zat untuk ngangkat karat. oleh karena itu, penggunaan coolant tergantung pada pemilik sendiri. pengalaman sy dulu waktu ngangkat bmw saya ini, pemilik sebelumnya pake air mineral kemudian sy ganti pake coolant kalo di mesin gak ada masalah, Alhamdulillah ketahuan ada kebocoran di sistem pendingin, contohnya radiator :).

@@qandul karena sistem pendinginan enginenya closed loop/tertutup maka tidak boleh ada udara di dalam sistem oleh karena itu diperlukan proses bleeding/mengeluarkan udara om. Untuk memeriksa ketinggian cairan radiator tanpa menambah cairannya, bisa dilakukan dipagi hari setelah engine tidak beroperasi semalaman. Ketinggian cairan adalah setinggi tanda "KALT/COLD" yg letaknya disamping plastik radiator. Proses bleeding biasanya cairan diisi penuh. Dalam kondisi normal, ketinggian cairan ini akan turun bertahap sampai ke batas KALT. Kelebihan cairan akan dilepaskan melalui tutup radiatornya. Tutup radiator untuk E36 ada tanda angka 20

@@givarifajar970problem sensor temperatur sy belum pernah mengalami. Untuk berapa lama fan nyala dr engine off, sy belum pernah menghitung jg om. Manasin mesin sebelum dipakai biasanya tidak terlalu lama jg om. sekitar 1 menit manasin langsung berangkat

These is a lot of misinformation about coolant on BMWs. The OEM BMW coolant is BLUE, but on my experience any OAT (Organic acid technology) coolant is fine, what ever its colour, since it´s OAT Don't use IAT coolant (Inorganic Acid...) neither HOAT (Hybrid Organic...) I have used OAT G12 coolant formula on my 90's BMWs never had a problem, but also ran an M42B18 with MOTUL INUGEL EXPERT OAT (Blue colour) with no problems
I bought my bmw in 2013, this is an used bmw. After a week, i replaced the radiator fluids with prestone antifreeze coolant (green color) because the former owner use mineral water. In 2017 i did an engine overhaul and the cooling line system is still in good condition. 1,5 years ago, i replaced the prestone antifreeze with prestone radiator cool (red color and ingredients without antifreeze component), because i live in tropical country so i don't need the antifreeze. Using this coolant i never had a problem too
A BMW E 36 is a model from more than 20 years ago... in terms of colour of coolant for your BMW, it does not actually matter what colour it is , as long as it is does not contain Nitrate, Amine, Alcohol or Phosphate, as these chemicals are not really suited to aluminium components ....it will say so on the container...I use a blue colour anti freeze and it is totally suitable for my BMW E36 because the brand I use does not contain any of those chemicals , I have owned my car from new, 1999, the car drives well after 23 years and 220k miles.

DId you have to jack up the front end of your car to bleed it or is it fine to bleed it with it at street level?

The aim of bleeding is to let out the air from cooling line system because air can cause over heat.
And air in the system will cause pressure build up and can blow the radiator, hoses or fittings.

bleed properly, if the leak still comes out of the cap, try to replace the cap with the new one.
But can i still use my radiator that has not been bleed properly?

Tujuan dr bleeding adalah mengeluarkan udara yg terperangkap di cooling system om. Udaranya dikeluarkan lewat lubang bleeding screw itu
