MAN OF LA MANCHA (1972) music by Mitch Leigh and lyrics by Joe Darion The 25th Anniversary of Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center, September 23, 1991, James Levine conducting.
... I'm just gonna say it, Over The Garden Wall brought me here. but that's not at all that I was out of touch with this music before watching that series, it's just that's what made me want to hear Samuel Ramey sing this particular song, for some reason. And I'm really glad I did. this is great, I keep listening to it over again.
An American treasure. Sam Ramey deserves a Presidential Medal of Freedom. Once during a gala performance that might have been spotty or not up to snuff Luciano Pavarotti said “ Ramey was the only one who didn’t get booed ! “
Are all the comments about his hair and looks ironic, lol? I remember seeing this when t was first broadcast in 92, I think. Was 17 and never heard of Ramey. My first thought was (and I say this with total affection) that he looked like a young willy nelson after a long crack binge. Later on I sang with him at LOC and he told a story that one of the ladies at the nearby Potbelly sandwich shop had said to him “did anyone ever tell you you look just like one of them Bee Gees?” His answer, in his deep bass voice “yeah but I don’t sound like them.”
He is a gentleman and an amazing musician with a voice like liquid gold! When I was a voice major some years back (before I burned some bridges and didn't know how to deal with people always asking if I was "the guy with the voice), my ultimate goal was to get my degree and get to work with him. Man has been a hero of mine and will always be so. Amazing voice he has!
Love a man with an exceptional, deep bass or baritone voice. (Samuel Ramey and Dmitri Hvorostovsky singing together in duets just an exceptional vocal treat!)

I came from over the garden wall, stayed because this guy can sing like a god.
My mother sang alongside maestro Ramey in a opera when she was 11. According to her is a very kind and generous man.

No. There is only me. There is only my way. There is only the forest, and there is only surrender
"Lalalalaa lalalalaa, cut the wood to light the fire"
He's from my home town. Lived on the same street as me. Best bass in the world!!!
Beware the beast.
Not possible for Ramey to day anything other than sing opera.

Fantastic intonation. Right down the middle of the note, with beautifully controlled vibrato.

Where has this man been all my life? His voice is a gift from God!
one of the greatest bass singers in the world
To dream ... the impossible dream ...

Now THIS... is a VOICE. Flawless. Best rendition of this song by far.
Sweet merciful savior, his voice is beautiful...
My all-time favorite song, and one of the very best versions; perhaps THE best.
What a voice! Spectacular!
