  • In Sacred Games, Netflix's first Indian original, actor Saif Ali Khan plays police officer Sartaj Singh, a character that has won him a lot of appreciation. But in the last 25 years, the actor has had an uneven career that has had its fair share of lows as well as highs like Dil Chahta Hai, Hum Tum and Cocktail. In this interview, the actor takes through the various phases of his career - the uncomfortable 90s, making his peace with the dancing, and slowly finding this stride.

Speaking of chatshows, Aamir is very academic & boring. Salman seems laidback & casual. Shahrukh is philosophical but repetitive. Ajay devgan is quite nonchalant & straightforward. Akshay kumar comes across as witty but is shrewd. Amitabh tries portraying humility & is somewhat reticent. Anil kapoor is jocular but rooted. Jackie comes across as unhibited & unpretentious. Saif seems classy, humorous, pragmatic & bloody honest. Haven't seen more than 7-8 movies of his. But really enjoy him speaking.
    Anyone agrees?

@@FilmCompanion The reason why the big superstars are so rich but not critically acclaimed because even though they are actors, they only play themselves in every movie and every role.
Salman knows nothing more than being Salman Khan and that's what he does. He might say the dialogues of the character but he enacts the same Salman Khan.
Same goes for Shahrukh who keeps repeating the same tried and tested Shahrukh Khan dialogue delivery and overall demina in every movie.
They are good actors but they are only good at playing the image of themselves that they've created over the time, not the character in the script.

Shah Rukh is underrated as an actor because he is cowardly in terms of choosing roles. Even in his standout roles (which are too few) - Swades, Chak De, he still plays the messiah. And especially sad because the movies he started with - Darr, Kabhi Haan, Raju --- showed promise of him being like Mr. Bachchan... a great star who is also a great actor.
I think in the long run, Shah Rukh will just be a footnote in Indian Film history, extremely successful in his time but with little repeat value in the long run - more Rajendra Kumar than Dilip Kumar. In the long run, Shah Rukh Khan is a more successful Hrithik Roshan. Nothing to be ashamed of, sure - but much less than what he could have been.

    • @godofeightysix4789
      @godofeightysix4789 Před 5 lety +2

Shah Rukh Khan is perhaps (with Salman Khan) the biggest star in Indian movies. I do not care even slightly about how big a star he is. I care about the movies he makes, and are they any good.
The vulnerability that you speak about is the flaring-nostrils vulnerability, that's nothing. Salman Khan, with a good director, can do it, and has done it - which was the last movie that Shah Rukh had played anything but shahrukh? Footnote in the long run, is absolutely true.
I agree with you that Aamir Khan treads the same path of always playing the morally right person, and I do not rate him too much as an actor (however he has a better catalogue of work than ShahRukh). But he is an excellent producer, a brilliant marketer of movies, and kind of a reasonable director.Shah Rukh Khan is yesterday's man.

Disappointing that anupama conpletely skipped over some of Saif’s defining roles/movies such aslandfa tyagi if omkara, parineeta and the likes

pratibhaPandit Yeah I also noticed a big leap when they suddenly went to Cocktail and Sacred Games . I have actually never heard Saif Discussing his work in Omkara in depth. That'd have been so much interesting . I guess we can't have it all in a single interview.

Mere liye 3 Khans of Bollywood hain
    Shahrukh Khan!!
    Aamir Khan!! and,
    Saif Ali Khan!!!
No place for Salman Khan in my list!!!
I think after SRK, Saif is the best interviewing by Anupama Chopra!!!

      Anuj Prakash Irfan Khan>Salman Khan.
Atleast Irfan khan did a good job in representing Indian in Hollywood indstead of playing all those stereotypical roles done by Prinyanka Chopra,Deepika Padukone &Anil Kapoor.

Anuj Prakash listen buddy, I hate to break it to you, but Salman’s success wont be bothered with your damn list. In fact, he is fine by his own self, he doesn’t need to be a first or a second or a third Khan, he is the one and only Khan and thats a numbers and facts statement. So yah

Endearing, Humble, Honest, knows his craft, talks well...and like many with such traits - Under-Used and Under-Appreciated!
