My bone spur is causing extreme weakness in my arm, my neck and my shoulder. I can't lift my arm past my shoulder height. It's causing visual issues, causing balance issues, dizziness etc. Going to see specialist on Tuesday in regards to it. It's been on going for over 6 years now and it's only getting worse. My vision improves when I take pressure off the neck. Which to me Says there's alot of instability and also that causing my issues.
I have no choice but to go for the surgery. If I don't God only knows how bad its going to end up. I've even been told it can effect breathing in some patients. Me being one of them

I don’t understand how physical therapy can help bone spurs?

He has to say this for insurance reasons. I work in healthcare. Bone spurs do not go away on their own. You can tolerate them with some strengthening of your neck muscles. Injections are only a band-aid. Keep in mind, injections are relatively new per say. There is not that many long term studies on them. Some people respond, while others don't. But, regardless of your pain and function, insurance companies, unless your in the ER, force doctors to make you do PT. You do not have to do injections, but doctors are paid big money to do them. Only after about 6 months with no improvements and numbness, will they do anything. If you don't have numbness, they do pretty much everything to avoid surgery, again, because insurance companies don't want to pay for it. I knew better and got a second opinion. My second guy recommended a disc replacement, but that did not get rid of my spurs. He also did not do my C6-C7, which has a disc bulge. Said the disc should keep me from having to do anything in the future. Able to move my neck easier, but the pain is still there. A year later, they are trying to push the same injection and PT crap, despite it doing nothing prior to the disc replacement.

I have a small spur on c4/c5 big enough tho to randomly cause a intense shock sting pain on side of neck. Only happens if i talk at same time as turning neck to the right. Doesnt occur enough to do something yet but it hurts like hell and gives me fear.

Look up a procedure called Ultrasonic Spinal Surgery. ask your neurologist about it! Way less invasive than the original surgery! I have moderate to severe spinal stenosis at the c5-6 on the left and moderate spinal stenosis at C5-6 on the right with shortened pedicles. I am talking with a neurologist at the end of November! Good luck!

I was 40 when I fell and developed symptomatic cervical bone spurs from hitting my head in bathroom. The sensations make me nauseous all the time and usually dizzy. I wish I were dead. They need safer procedures for removing these.

@@peny1981 Still in pain. Doctors still have no clue whats going on. wanting to just band-aid the pain and not figure out why im having pain in the first place. been told its occipital neuralgia but they don't know why. they just want to do ON blocks instead of finding the cause... waiting to find a new specialist to go to that actually wants to look at fixing and not band-aiding.. they want me to do acupuncture, pt, massage therapy, and chiropractic care but my insurance doesn't pay for any of that.. well they pay for pt but they say i need all of it to hopefully get better.. not working and SSI denied me so now Im fighting them as well...
But hopefully 2022 will be better.

this is why i dislike doctors. They think they know what is best for everyone. WE pay for you to stay in practice. it is OUR choice to have the bone spur removed or treated. WE have to live with the symptoms not you.

Agreed. I have 2 spurs that cause occasional severe pain and paralysis and they sent me to a physical therapist, after I called him that is. He sat on my MRI for weeks while I lived with the pain and I had to call just to find out what the hell was going on. I then never even saw the doctor, I saw a nurse practitioner or whatever. Great.
Physical therapy helped temporarily, but now it's back with a vengeance and now it's present with 2 more spurs in my lumber causing sciatica pain.
I dread this because it's a very simple solution, but because of insurance, corporate control, the arrogance of doctors, etc it's going to be almost a bigger pain in the ass than the sciatica to get something done.

They’ll want to do everything else before going in to remove it. Removing bone spurs has its own significant risks, hence why they want to exhaust all other noninvasive methods first before doing the invasive ones.
