The dead end thing made me wonder if that's how video game characters feel when they accidentally step on a pressure plate that shifts the walls around.
The entire backrooms concept is so fascinating to me. I could spend hours on end watching these types of videos. Something about it really pulls me in and keeps my full undivided attention. I have no idea why it’s so captivating to me but it is
The piano jazz ballad fragment was so beautiful! F#m9 - B7add6 - Bbmaj11 - Ebm9. Hands didn't lie. Just a kind of backdoor II - V - I meat and potato moment. Thanks for this video! I would be a guy, who just said you've (or maybe) played the right notes on footage. Also the sound of the piano makes so much pleasant, aerial, nostalgic feeling. That vibe is too personal for me. Thanks you, Matt!
Just wanted to say how much i appreciate the sound design here. Working with something like this really is all about the subtleties and you've really paid attention to every detail. Well done.
Love this! Phenomenal transition in the backrooms. I love that it went from the house to an empty backrooms copy of it. Adds a lot to the horror. I can't imagine how someone would feel if that happened to them in an instant. By the way, your Poolrooms videos are the BEST. My absolute favorite of any backrooms videos on youtube. Would love to see another hopefully you have one in the works!
As others have said, much less childish than the rest of the "lore" that's been made up about the backrooms and MUCH better grasp of the concept. Good choice cutting out before we can see what happened with the other person. You've really managed to capture the mellow creepiness of liminal spaces, of being alone in a space that seems built for purpose but whose purpose is unknown and can't be figured out. I'm looking forward to seeing what else you put together.
i love this because this is what the backrooms were originally suppoused to be! atmospheric horror where youre stuck in a never ending loop of places that seem familiar but contain nothingness great job and i appreciate you not putting monsters everywhere! keep it up!!!
@@kuiabiel5061 They were part of it from the start. What started it all contains the line "God save you if you hear something wandering around nearby, because it sure as hell has heard you". They're not the main focus of the horror of the backrooms. But something being in here was always part of it.
The whole time, and I'm probably such a baby for this, but I was just glancing up and listening because I was scared an entity would come, but it never did. I'm probably going to REALLY rewatch it because the work done on this is truly incredible. I really wish more people had appreciation for things like this.
This is what the backrooms is supposed to be. Eerily familiar spaces, being utterly alone in some creepy dimension. The backrooms in hands of the fandom has just gotten out of control with so many ridiculous levels, entities, and now even communities living on different levels. Good job!
Man, as much as Kane is a visionary and a master of sound and storytelling, you are a master of the Liminal environment. Seriously, these compositions, these shapes and colors of your videos are so compelling, I have no doubt if one were transported there for real, they would quickly become convinced that all of their life leading to that moment was a dream. These depictions of the backrooms feel like the insides some sort of deep unconscious dead-zone outside of reality itself. Or inside the bowels of the mind of an insane god. It's twisted but personal in the most uncomfortable, surreal way. I truly think your depictions of the backrooms are some of the best out there on CZcams
I love this almost as much as Kane Pixels backrooms videos, the way you had him enter the backrooms was amazing, I’ve never seen a video with someone entering it where they go into their basement, and when they enter the backrooms it still looks like their basement except it’s infinite now with no furniture. Also at the end I am pretty sure he finds an A-Sync office and escapes, which is a way more believable reason that the footage was found other than in Kane Pixels where the camera survives falling from the sky lol, but it was still cool.
Having miles of hallways, and rooms makes you wonder if you're going to starve before finding anything is stressful. Seeing chairs and tables makes you ponder if anyone else is here. And the thought of anything else being here, yet seeing nothing is suspenseful. There could be someone/something else here, or the chairs are simply a glitch in the reality of the backrooms. Very atmospheric
I love this! Back in the late 80s my dad used to do weekend work sometimes, and he'd take me along to his work. Big massive corporate headquarters, where I pretty much had free reign to wander about. Lots of corridors like this, the only noise from the overhead lights, or distant noises of the elevators or plant rooms. Love it.
damn that second level really got me excited, and then the locked door on the stairs and weird distortion in that second iteration of the starting area? chills man. and the backrooms changing the dead ends on them lmao. like they were having fun with a new friend. im super excited to see where you take this next
I was expecting a jumpscare from all the other backrooms videos I've seen, but just the thought of being alone in endless hallways is way more scarier than cheap jumpscares or entities.
If you were in a version of the Backrooms where A: there isn't a monster running around the corner screaming at you every 2 minutes and B: you don't feel hunger, thirst, or, um, other bodily necessities, it would be an amazing place to work towards Enlightenment or self-realization.
This was fantastic, especially the audio and audio mixing. I loved the little 'woosh' SEs you put in for fast camera movements, folks always forget those, and your footstep pacing and audio was on point. Amazing cinematography as well. Absolute 10/10
This is the canonical backrooms. There is an inner dialogue expressed through the movement of the camera and the direction choice in the whole piece in reaction to the environment. We are right there with that person! Unbelievable.
very awesome! I like how you didn't need to put a creature/entity, yet it is still just as scary. not knowing whats around the corner at every turn, I also like how you made it feel familiar by using places we saw earlier in the video, yet you make it feel off with different coloring of the walls and floors. Overall a very awesome video!
This is a more truthful take on the backrooms than Kane Pixels'. The lobby is supposed to have no entities, just neverending unnerving halls. Great work!
Actually the Backrooms has at least one entity according to the original. So Kane's is more faithful in this aspect. This was still a good video though.
Your backrooms is beautiful and innovative, that thing with the dead end was amazing, the noclip was smooth and the level color unique, btw your poolrooms are the most liminal out there, awesome work
This was extremely well done! Never knew what was coming.. The vast emptiness and strange hum of the lights are really what make the backrooms. The entity encounters take away from the real horror, and even add a childish element to the levels, if you ask me (especially the design of some... well, most of them. I mean glowing eyes and a mouth? Neon skeletons? C'mon).. Those have nothing on something as simple as an awkwardly placed desk. Great job!
It just occurred to me that the whole Backrooms storyline is a lot like the weird fiction story "The Willows" by Algernon Blackwood. H.P. Lovecraft called The Willows the finest supernatural tale in Western literature. The Willows starts out in a peaceful setting with completely commonplace, normal phenomena, but begins adding subtle, strange occurrences until, by the end, you have no idea what's going on and you're totally on edge. This First Encounter production does a great job of duplicating that structure. Nice work!
Keep this series going! Don't know many if any at all backrooms series that follow a specific survivor's experience through backrooms. Looking forward to Jay's further experiences.
This is so good, your videos perfectly capture the feel of the backrooms, better than almost any other creator i think. You put atmosphere above jumpscare etc and it's just so good. I could watch hours of these videos.
0:49: "Hey, Ma?" Infinite staircase. 5:36: The way back was walled up and the wall was a new way. 6:15: He ended up where he started except with different colors and a gate. 7:57: The other person?!?! Brilliant! This video is so cool and well made! Also I love how realistic is it.
Your videos give me a different feeling than what other people are saying. I’ve never felt so safe yet so on-edge, so liberated yet trapped, and so tense yet so relaxed when watching any video. Knowing that there isn’t any entities brings me relief, but even as I breathe slowly and comfortably, my lungs tense as the maze continues.
Very excellent take on the backrooms. The quality looks really believable and I like the sheer randomness of the areas here. That first part when they no-clip and he calls for his mom, only to find an infinite set of stairs was really unnerving.
I’d really like to know your techniques too. Like do you use motion tracking for the movements, and what kind of blur filter do you use to look like a camcorder?
For once again another very realistic found footage from you. It just amazed me. The dead end part was purely a masterpiece and especially in the end, I hope he gets saved lol. Can't wait to see the sequel!
There’s also a really cool element here that the cameraman at some point chooses to get lost in the Backrooms rather than stay close to home, and can’t get back. That’s what gets me many minutes after watching this.
Wow! The production quality honestly rivals Kane Pixels! All the other Backrooms videos I see are so mediocre, but this one is incredible! Such intensity, it feels real.
New to all this backroom stuff and idk about levels or any of that crap, but I really liked this one. No jumps, just straight creepiness the whole time. Subbed to this
Oh man, I love this iteration of The Backrooms. The entities are a fun, spooky concept but nothing scared me more than the original images of liminal spaces back before it became SCP 2.0. They are scary because they twisted our nostalgia, took what was comfortable and familiar and twisted it just slightly to unnerve us. And this captures that beautifully. Just a random kid who is the random victim of the uncaring backrooms. Clipping into a altered version of your own home is so horrifying, I love this!
these are so good! particularly enjoyed how the red stairs almost felt like we stumbled into the backrooms of some parallel dimension. and the small square vent descending into darkness made my stomach sink 😵 whats down there?!? 😆
I really badly want to know how you make these, but I also don’t want to know until the end of whatever videos you have planned. Genuinely unsettling. Very good work.
For some reason I’m extra intrigued by level 94 specifically. I just love the way the houses look surrounded by grass, and that water tower on the hill… don’t even get me started.
Dude this is so AWESOME!!! Love the crossover with Kane's scientists at the end, absolutely crazy good work. Would love to see a full length movie of this. MATT IS THE 👑
Okay, have this paused at a minute through and already had the most visceral feeling of terror one could feel. I have no idea why because I have binged all if not many of the Backrooms videos on this platform. Somehow just by utilizing very few light sources and extra geometry, with a near infinite staircase going in one direction (somehow got slight vertigo by the character looking up the stairs), you have managed to make an intro infinitely more terrifying than anyone else. Well done. Will add an Edit at the end of the video.
this is one of my new favorites, up there with your poolrooms mall video. using the strange geometry and random objects + lighting/sound is a lot creepier than random jump scares. really shows the backrooms as basically an infinite maze with no solution. maybe i just like psychological horror idk, but these are awesome. hope to see more!
Such a quick and clever setup in the beginning with the piano video! It answers the question right away as to how the camera made it to the backrooms, and it provides an eerie and nostalgic opening to the horrors ahead. Great work!
Yes, you are one of the few creators that positions the camera at the correct height and makes the roof high enough to make it look normal. I live BR videos, but many look either like the ceiling is 5ft high or that the camera man is 8ft tall, or both
please continue with no entities!! it's a lot more unnerving cus like the entities are more of a jump scare while yours is actually unsettling and give you anxiety like somethings there and looming around but you'll never see it I just love it so much (so sorry Kane pixels!)
I just found this page not having seen these types of videos before but I’m mesmerized. It’s terrifying yet artistic. I found myself in a trance at times during this video creating my own reality around what was in front of me - the confusion of how I got here, the paranoia of finally finding another human or that maybe one is following me and I can’t tell, wondering how I know when day is ending and when should I sleep but not knowing how to decide where to sleep because I am so lost and everything looks the same. Will I ever wake up? Am I even alive in this strange, eerie world? Then the details that everyone was mentioning, the sparse dialogue and peculiar placement of chairs and wall outlets make me wonder who else has been here and why? What brought us here? These videos are so well done and truly unsettling while being so simple in a way. Excellent job, subscribing!
This looks absolutely real, at the beginning is real (I think), And when he enters the backrooms, It still looks absolutely real (But I think it's not), I really like these types of videos, rather than watching other ones that are not this type, these types of videos are amazing, this is awesome
I liked your other stuff, but this video is the one that finally convinced me to subscribe. It's so much more relatable than any other backrooms video I've seen, which makes it that much more freaky.
Was good without any entities visible (yet). It's scary to think about how long those chairs could have been there. Possibly 100 or 1000 years, a complete mystery.
Did you start with Kane Pixels? If not, check his channel out. Also look in the descriptions because he sometimes put hidden links to privated videos that extend the lore. A-sync is also another great channel on the Backrooms.
Now this one is unnerving! I absolutely love that when he noclipped into the backrooms, it still resembled his house. For an instant he believed he was still there just with no furniture and when he looked around the corner and up the stairs, that gave me goosebumps!! What a way to trick the mind and then coming back to the same space resembling his home but looks different, it made me feel as if I was the one there and there was a subtle panic! Your skills for this are phenomenal!! : D
I watched all your stuff and I'm in love already man. The simplistic notion of just adding the slight bumpy windy noises on the camera as the handled bumps it and breaths on it adds so much and the way it's slightly off centered makes it look like it's from actual amateur camera footage and not a first person view. The atmosphere and unnerve you build in your videos are great!
Since I was little I dreamed of places like this. The strangest are with infinite bathrooms; the more you go through the area, the more bizarre they are, and dirty. I am regularly in control of my dream and despite being terrifying I really enjoy exploring those areas. Although sometimes the silhouettes of people and/or creatures are very creepy. Excellent videos. I hope you can continue creating content.
@Matt Studios I find your take on backrooms to be the best one. The fact there are no monsters and entities is exactly what backrooms should be, not just another jump scare, but an existential psychological dread that comes from the unknown. People put all sorts of entities and definitions on this strange space, not realizing that by doing that they take away from the basis of the unknown, unexplainable and ineffable. Literally, the only thing I think would improve the ominous setting would be the inclusion of the non-euclidean spaces. That would put the whole thing on another level.
The vibes of this are incredible. I commend your creativity with the various encounters. To me the fear really does come from your own mind scrambling to rationalize why and how the hell this place is the way it is, and what absurd horror you *might* encounter if you just keep going. You have to press on because there's no other option, and the fact that there's nothing to run from puts all the pressure on your decision-making. The way my stomach dropped at the sight of a seemingly normal human being just casually lurking? Excellent.
I used to have a recurring nightmare as a kid that was very similar to this. Started out walking through the back hallways of this lovely hotel in Vermont (my family would vacation at.. (The Woodstock Inn) most of the hotel was really warm and pleasant- not creepy at all.. but I remember some of the deeper hallways feeling very desolate and spooky. A definite Shining vibe… but I had never seen the Shining as a kid… Anyway, in the recurring nightmare I would have- I would wander from the warm, well light lobby, through the cozier upstairs hallways and eventually find myself in the spookier, isolated hallways where things became less cozy and more liminal. Eventually I would make my way up some narrow stairs to a single room. It was a furnished, normal room except for it had a very small door in the corner which opened to reveal another stair case that went up to another room. Inside that room it was empty except for another small doorway which opened to reveal another narrow staircase leading up to another, smaller empty room with a single jack-in-the-box on the floor. I would find myself stuck in that room. And you guessed it.. there was definitely an evil clown in the box.
All of your videos make my heart feel like it’s going to leap out of my chest. I can feel my fight or flight kicking in ever time the camera pans to a dark corridor. Thank you for these.

I'm looking forward for the next one!
The dead end thing made me wonder if that's how video game characters feel when they accidentally step on a pressure plate that shifts the walls around.
3:15 What? No Smiler?
Just tested out those chords on guitar, you got good ears, they sound pretty spot on! Beautiful fragment of music indeed
Just wanted to say how much i appreciate the sound design here.
Working with something like this really is all about the subtleties and you've really paid attention to every detail.
Well done.
it’s incredible how nostalgic this is. it feels like this is how I remember every large space feeling when I was a kid. spectacular work
rofl not sure you know what nostalgic means
@@BassHeadsProduction not sure if you know what a liminal space is
The poolrooms are exactly what I had imagined them to be. The sounds, the lighting.. the stuff of dreams.
amazing video as usual👏
it sure is a true masterpiece, along with the work you do!
AYO! A-Sync. how are you man!
I'm looking forward to seeing what else you put together.
i love this because this is what the backrooms were originally suppoused to be! atmospheric horror where youre stuck in a never ending loop of places that seem familiar but contain nothingness
great job and i appreciate you not putting monsters everywhere! keep it up!!!
The entities were always a thing. The backrooms just don't need them to be scary
@@ramaya007 not in level 0 tho, where most people like to put them
@@kuiabiel5061 They were part of it from the start. What started it all contains the line "God save you if you hear something wandering around nearby, because it sure as hell has heard you".
They're not the main focus of the horror of the backrooms. But something being in here was always part of it.
Lots of people make cringy Backrooms found footage videos, but this is legit one of the best ones I've ever seen. 10/10
Ok. I LOVE the way he clips in. The fact that the place matches the design on his house is genius and im shocked nobody has ever done that yet.

Kinda ragging on Kane while also applying his lore to another creator’s video…lol
Love it.
0:51 Oh god, I’m getting Super Mario 64 endless staircase vibes from this.
damn that second level really got me excited, and then the locked door on the stairs and weird distortion in that second iteration of the starting area? chills man. and the backrooms changing the dead ends on them lmao. like they were having fun with a new friend. im super excited to see where you take this next
I was expecting a jumpscare from all the other backrooms videos I've seen, but just the thought of being alone in endless hallways is way more scarier than cheap jumpscares or entities.
If you were in a version of the Backrooms where
A: there isn't a monster running around the corner screaming at you every 2 minutes and
B: you don't feel hunger, thirst, or, um, other bodily necessities,
it would be an amazing place to work towards Enlightenment or self-realization.
I thought there was no official canon
very awesome!
Your backrooms is beautiful and innovative, that thing with the dead end was amazing, the noclip was smooth and the level color unique, btw your poolrooms are the most liminal out there, awesome work
I loved the white walls and red carpet, it's even relaxing. And the chairs omg! Excellent Artwork!
Love it.
Those stairs at the beginning genuinely creepy.
And the "chair witch project", chair sat in the corner.
Great job!
Imagine this in VR
It just occurred to me that the whole Backrooms storyline is a lot like the weird fiction story "The Willows" by Algernon Blackwood. H.P. Lovecraft called The Willows the finest supernatural tale in Western literature. The Willows starts out in a peaceful setting with completely commonplace, normal phenomena, but begins adding subtle, strange occurrences until, by the end, you have no idea what's going on and you're totally on edge. This First Encounter production does a great job of duplicating that structure. Nice work!
The lack of monsters is creepy and unnerving. I LIKE THAT!!!
I really like how this one looks as good as the classic ones made by Kane. Also the good ending is fun to see too.
Same exact sentiments here!
What always gets me is those motion detector lights. You're in a creepy space so you stop moving to listen and bam, the light shuts off
Finally good content without jumpscares, monsters and the whacky randomness of mist of thenkane copycats. Just excellent writing, very good execution.
all im saying is that transition at 0:27 was clean.
This guy nailed it, the terror is in the environment itself and he got the eerie/familiar feeling down perfectly
Wow! The production quality honestly rivals Kane Pixels! All the other Backrooms videos I see are so mediocre, but this one is incredible! Such intensity, it feels real.
I’m looking at all those stairs like “nope” 😂 just seeing those is a nightmare for me lol;; your work is fantastic I really love it!
Monsters are down there….
Awesome. The huge staircase was so creepy. And i like how the protagonist talked a bit too. Made it more immersive/realistic.
I loved this. Your version of the rooms seems personal and haunting.
I like the fluorescent buzz, not noticed that in other videos
I got chills! Especially that random desk and chair, and chairs facing wall!! And the static interference.

Beautiful playing at the start
this is one of my new favorites, up there with your poolrooms mall video. using the strange geometry and random objects + lighting/sound is a lot creepier than random jump scares. really shows the backrooms as basically an infinite maze with no solution. maybe i just like psychological horror idk, but these are awesome. hope to see more!
Such a quick and clever setup in the beginning with the piano video! It answers the question right away as to how the camera made it to the backrooms, and it provides an eerie and nostalgic opening to the horrors ahead.
Great work!
Never seen a transition like that. You made it seamless. Great job
Matt backrooms: (peaceful mode)
Kane backrooms: (hard mode)
I discovered this channel and finished watching the videos 2 miniutes ago, subscribed with notifications and Instantly got notified :D
Did you start with Kane Pixels? If not, check his channel out. Also look in the descriptions because he sometimes put hidden links to privated videos that extend the lore. A-sync is also another great channel on the Backrooms.
His first video from the "Mall" is amazing
Damn he went through all this and he just got up to feed his cat 🐱
4:52 monster detention hall
One of the best backrooms videos on CZcams! Great job, looking forward to more in this style.
A definite Shining vibe… but I had never seen the Shining as a kid…
Anyway, in the recurring nightmare I would have- I would wander from the warm, well light lobby, through the cozier upstairs hallways and eventually find myself in the spookier, isolated hallways where things became less cozy and more liminal.
Jesus
I just love these videos you put out, so atmospheric and creepy without any real conflict happening.
All of your videos make my heart feel like it’s going to leap out of my chest. I can feel my fight or flight kicking in ever time the camera pans to a dark corridor. Thank you for these.
This version is one of the best of the genre
one of the best yet
so great to see someone confronting the backrooms space instead of cheap entity thrills
i love getting baked and watching ur videos man esp the pool rooms but this one i appreciate the audio mixing,, the variations of frequencies is so relaxing and feels melodic. i love the textures you apply to ur films the spaces feels so real.. the esp the depth you can show with shadow
When he looked back up at the stairwell. I felt the desperation when he said, "Hey ma!"
Perfectly captured my old nightmares. Now they exist in my waking state... lovely. Well done.
