- We sat down with David Yost at Anime Festival Orlando 2010 and discussed what he's up to now, his childhood, how he got into acting, the early days of Power Rangers, and much more.

Alan Peralta ....did you really ask if he's STILL GAY? I'm hoping that wasn't an honest question, but if it was, yes, he's still gay and he's finally comfortable with fans about it and is very, VERY involved with making sure gay people don't get bullied like he did. he did not magically become straight over the years. David is one of the sweetest, kindest, most humble people on the face of the planet and I know, because I've met him multiple times and he's just such a genuinely good person who makes you feel good simply from speaking to him and being in his presence

I was lucky enough to meet him today at London Film and Comic Con. He is a great guy. Got an autograph signed by him. It was a fantastic day.

it's still sad that the original basically the first yellow ranger of the power ranger series passed away in 2001 my her soul r.i.p.
I watched this show regularly from the time The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was new up until the Turbo series. Then, I watched the show less and less. I did not even hear about David Yost (Billy) being bullied on set. I thought of the character as more of a support character than anything. He helped out Alpha 5. He created The Rat Bug which allowed the team to travel to The Command Center. There was that one episode where all five Rangers combined their powers into Billy. So, he was the strongest Ranger in the series for one episode. That episode sort of sticks out in my mind as one I remember decades later.
He didn't become the strongest ranger for one episode. Putting the power coins together for Billy only allowed him to escape the dimension they were trapped in. Afterwards Billy had to 1v1 Madam Woe. This wasn't a common practice for a ranger to singlehandedly take on a monster but it did happen from time to time. Kimberly killed multiple monsters on her own with the power bow.

Pretty crazy that he was i just found out about it and grew up with mmpr. Its so weird like the show taught children good values like how to treat people, bullying is wrong, include everyone. It sucks that they couldnt learn from the values they were trying to preach. It is especially disturbing if the cast harrased him as well :( on a side note and the yellow ranger died in a car accident also just found out so sad rip :(
@@ansem6167 the Yellow ranger was one of the cast members who harassed him. As well as Jason's actor and the second pink ranger. But Jason David Frank, Amy Jo Johnson, and the first black ranger were pretty kind to him and supported him, I think.
@@InkAndPoet makes sense since i see those 3 together alot now but I remember actually seeing an interview a while after i posted this and he said the cast was nice to him including the red ranger I dunno about the 2nd cast but it seems he has a good relationship with the first cast

I heard that the producers had a hard time working with him, but here he seems super nice and humble. I'm glad he did a long interview to show his personality to the fans.

I remember watching him and Amy Jo on the show you could really tell they had really strong backgrounds in gymnastics

I was heartbroken to hear that he was being mistreated by the producers. David Yost is such a sweet person and one of my favorite PR actors.
Shame on those production crews for bullying an innocent person.
David has aged pretty well. He's not 24 anymore, people. He's 43. Of course he's gonna look a bit older. we're just use to seeing him as the young Blue Ranger. And to most of us fans not seeing him in front of the camera since then, it makes him look really older.

You poor man. I had no idea things were so hard for David. And I can't believe people were so cruel to just because he was gay. That shouldn't make a difference. As long as he's a good man, that's the only thing that should matter. And he was second favorite ranger from the original series and I loved his Wolf Zord. I still have it to this day.

TheLegend1245 more certainly wouldn't have mattered to me! He was super nice when I met him by accident at Costco. he was there just in regular life, and he was so nice to allow me the privilege of meeting him.

I couldn't believe that I would of all places run into him in so ordinary a circumstance. it wasn't a promo or meet and greet, he was just out with his family like normal! I was 7 so I was starstruck like crazy, but sooo nervous to approach him. I saw when we first got there, and that whole shopping trip I was elated just to have him in the building, to have someone around from something that you really like so much just in your vicinity even if I couldn't get near him out of respect, I'll never forget that feeling. I was taught to always remember they were normal like us and to let them be, so I did. but I remember being almost on the verge of tears because of how bad I wanted to say hi and now we were at the checkout line. lol, so my mom saw my face and she went and asked. AND HE WAS SOOOO KIND ENOUGH to walk over to me, I was too nervous to move, and even then I wanted soooo much to jump up on him and give him the most massive hug, but I was more scared than ever to make him uncomfortable, and I remember he tried to get me to talk to him a little more. but you know, the one thing that struck me as he bent down, looked me right in the eye, and shook my hand, even as a 7 yr old, the one thing that struck me and my family is that he was very shy as well. a very quiet but very kind being.
that was the best one-on-one childhood encounter I treasure. maybe it doesn't seem like it, but for that moment my 7-yr-old heart melted with joy, with awe, with warmth. I loved that I grew up to enjoy who they became after PR. They still don't disappoint me.

Wow, I've wanted to see a David Yost interview for so long! Thanks for doing it! I couldn't find anything related to him anywhere that was even close to current. Now if you could just track down Amy Jo Johnson! I can't find any current interviews with her either, except for one where she was on a talk show in Australia, but they didn't ask her anything related to Power Rangers.
The original casts always the best in my memory. So as David Yost aka Billy, the original blue ranger. 👍
I think David would have loved to have directed/co-produced RPM. Considering the quality of those episodes in spite of the behind-the-scenes drama (Eddie Guzelian being fired and replaced by Chip/Judd Lynn) He would've liked to have been a part of bringing those episodes to the small screen.
I was such a huge MMPR fan I had probably everything they ever made as toys, videos, soundtracks, etc. Even tho Kimberly and Tommy were my main favs I LOVED Billy because he was a total geek and still kicked butt! He made me feel like I could accomplish anything. Wrong move pushing him away Saban Entertainment!!! I miss you David and shame on those who made you feel bad. You rock, dude! Don't forget it!

David Yost is 41 now compared to the old school rangers who are in their early to mid 30s. Plus his life seems VERY hectic. It's not surprising he looks the way he does now. Plus not everyone ages the best. He still looks good for a 41 year old guy to me. I've shocking seen people half his age look older than him.
MMPR began airing in 1993, 19 years ago. This would put David at around 24 years old during early production.

According to his bio, he would have been 24 when MMPR premiered, and he stayed with the show until Zeo, so he'd have been 28 when he left. This interview was done in 2010, when he was 41. Though Billy was a good character, so I wouldn't mind seeing him reprise the role for one of the newer seasons, like Paul Schirer did for Bulk in PR Samurai (where he was unfortunately wasted).
The original Power Rangers were the Best... I washed it as a Teen and I Love It..

Im 16 and that shit would be awesome! MMPR will always be my favorite, and being a black kid I lived in a non-diverse environment and the power rangers was my escape, Zack (Walter Jones) was my hero and to see a black man fighting crime rather than being accused of causing it, was awesome to me and to this day I watch it on Netflix. Power Rangers aint just for kids, its for people with awesome childhoods and heroes.
In case you did not know, Thuy Trang who played Trini died in an automobile accident back in 2001. It did not get a lot of attention because of 9/11 which happened around the same time.
Jesus, he sounds sober! Most stars from major shows usually start spiraling down the Highway to Hell... He has an excellent memory and he looks great. I always liked the Blue Ranger! You're awesome, David!
