Do all cells (skin, liver, etc) present antigens for the T-Cells.. or is it only the White-Blood-Cells that signal the antigen information to the T-Cells? BTW, there was a good interview with Danny Altmann (Life Scientific podcast).

Can someone please explain this to me like a 4 year old? In regards to T1DM, is the problem with the immune cells, or the beta cells? Just talking about HLA-DR3 and 4, what exactly is happening? Is it that when the T-cells are are maturing in the thymus, cells that should die because they react to beta cell antigens do not die and there fore attack the beta cells? Or is it that the MHC complexes on the beta cells are somehow deformed and this causes the immune system to attack it? Which area of the problem does the DR3/4 mutation affect? Please someone save me.
