I loved watching this guy race. He was one of a kind. It is just so cool to see this interview of him and it is especially neat to see that he came to know the Lord with his brother Jan Opperman. Just sad to know that these guys aren’t around anymore. Racing was really fun back then

I wasn't aware of this interview until a few minutes ago , where on a racing forums page someone included the CZcams link. A mechanical genius and a man so far ahead of his time. Yes, he made some big mistakes and he dearly paid for them. I'll always remember those beautiful Weickert Livestock Gremlins at the Reading Fairgrounds and, of course, the 112 Batmobile. May he Rest in Peace

Hey kiddo! Yes he is! He’s a pretty interesting guy to have as a grandpa, I would know 😉 only wish we all could have met him.
RIP Kenny - your grandkids, blood or otherwise, would have loved to know you! ❤

Yeah, grandpa was definitely not into the wacky tobaccy, for sure!! Probably should’ve tried it though, cause it definitely could have helped once he got cancer.

Not just a racer. heard him called borderline Genius more than once. Made jeff Bodie cry for building a car under rule book. Way inside the rules. Rule on minimum size no rule on maximum size, or airo inside the car. Competition were building pintos and gremlins. Kenny built a Lincoln 😊

this is greg welds brother. all the brothers, jerry, greg, kenny and rick as well as thier dad pappy
    died much too soon

Pappy lived to be almost 90. I talked to greg one night when he brought Taylor to a mini sprint race in the late 80's. I am guessing it was around 87 and he said that Pappy had been working in the shop on the race car and had gotten sick. I believe he died of pneumonia.

I still have photos of him from Bridgeport. He was my favorite driver as a kid. What a talented man both behind the wheel and in the garage. I try to find sympathy but he knew what he was doing and got caught. His actions helped spread drugs in our society. I hope he learned.

He got involved with the wrong people. He served his time. He made up for it with even better technology and innovation.
No reason to put any blame on the man for the US drug crisis that existed before he was involved and will exist long after he’s been forgotten. Just a thought.

there is a drug world, no single person added to anything, that would be like pissing in the ocean. drugs have been part of america since the beginning. our government made millionaires out of mafia figures by making alcohol illegal along with the death of thousands. not sure why you are reading about someone in the racing world with your attitude. lots of things are illegal by the way, hope you aren't cheating on your taxes, you get more time for that.

dont really know much about kenny till just now 2/21/2023 but he speaks as an acutly aware man, and in ernest and honestly, and upbeat but unpretentious, and a man the understands his Christian faith, hope he stayed steadfast in the Lords ways to the end, sad gone so soon but we all have to go sometime, and racing is a brutal sport, about the part of Jan opperman, and it killed many a man and woman far too early, kile bryan clausen, and rich vogaler, scott brayton, I just hope I never have to see it happen when I am at a race, I saw some brutal ones at eldora last year in 2022 at the four crown nationals, one end over end tumble, and michael Buddy Kofiod took a hit and his car barrel rolled twice and I think it threw fuel or fluids into the air, in an earlier day and age it may have been leathal but he walked away sore of course, and its just part of a day in the office for sprint and midget drivers.
