      I agree, SONOS needs to get their act together! If the latest release of their app is breaking connections when everything previously worked, the update is a joke! I’m getting the feeling SONOS is losing their following due to not fully supporting older speakers & equipment. Very dissatisfied as of late!

    Thanks! I’ve had Sonos speakers for over 10 years and they had worked flawlessly. Recently they started acting up. Disconnecting during songs, just cutting out intermittently or not connecting at all. I had even been on the phone with Sonos support, no help at all. I watched your video and checked the network setting (I didn’t even know there was one) and discovered I had my network showing g up twice. One started with a lowercase letter and one uppercase. I checked my network its uppercase so I deleted the lowercase one and now it’s working perfectly again! Thanks so much for your clear and concise explanation of the proper troubleshooting process.

    Thank You so much Peter for this videio,, it helped me so much. I spent 2days trying to connect my sonos speakers to my New Router ( Eero rounter ) Nothing worked until I did it your way , I used a Ethernet cord and wired diretly into the router and the speaker then remember the router on its own. I unhooked the speaker from the router and took it back to the room and restarted the Sonos app on my phone and it had me update . So then I took my Ethernet cord to My Arc and connected it and ran it to the back of my Directv reciever and plugged it in to that port on the back of the reciever and it connected and updated. So I crossed my fingers and Unhooked it from the Ethernet port and waited a couple mintues and My Sonos all hooked up to the WIFI .. Wow ,, Thank you again, you are a Genius !!

    I had a boost for a few years, felt it wasn’t needed, so got rid. Sonos as you say kindly released updates which then caused connectivity issues. Incidentally I also have a few UniFi access points and is generally pretty strong. Thanks for the Info!
    Sadly these all are band-aids -- I've tried all of this except the Sonos Boost, but that's because I'm not buying a Sonos Boost to solve an issue that clearly was only stirred by their own software update. Each of your recommendations except the boost, work for awhile and then the problem come's back -- it's always when I switch between content types, like Stereo PCM, to DD 5.1 or Atmos... then I have to reboot my Surrounds, Sub, or everything.
    We need Sonos to acknowledge and fix.

    Hi Peter,
    Big fan of your videos but I have been facing the dropout issue of Sub Gen 3 and pair of one SL surrounds since a month now. Tried the following, Hardwiring Arc to router and ensuring all others join the WM0 network, disabling band steering on WiFi channels, changing the Sonos net channel to 11 and 1 from the default 6 and so many other things but the issue still persists. This update has plagued the system and there is no ETA for a fix. My observation is that if you change Audio sources often like switching between TV apps ( CZcams, Netflix, etc), the issue will reoccur. With hardwiring I had a good connection for 2 days following which I experienced the drop outs. I have a L3 engineer from Sonos engaged who is working with development team but no ETA on fix. Sonos in the past has advertised all its products to be wireless and I have been using the same wireless setup since 1 year with no change to anything. I am inclined to believe it’s a defect that Sonos isn’t owning but hopefully with this video, the message reaches out to development team and they can provide a fix to help out masses.

    For everyone having issues, try this as last resort. Uninstall the App. Log out of your Wi-Fi. Restart the phone (important). Unplug all your systems for 10 seconds and plug back while holding the button that looks like & for 10 seconds. Factory reset your system. Restart your phone, type in the password and connect to wi-fi again. Re-Install Sonos App. Log back in, and Do NOT press join existing system. Press New System Setup. Now it should detect all your system. I hope this solves problems for most of you.

  • @ludwigvanbeethoven1044

    Greetings 🙏
    I had some issues too for a couple of months.
    Drop outs on both subs and surrounds
    So I reached sonos (very good support)
    I have a vacuum cleaner(robot)and few other devices very close to the arc, after a long conversation in my case they recommended me to put both subs one meter away from the arc and move the router few meters away, so I did.
    One week ago I moved everything I had too and 2 things happend.
    Better sound and better communication in all speakers, either I'm getting crazy or it is actually better, I haven't experienced any issues after those charges so far, if I do I will update my comment here.
    Hope i helped a little bit.

  • @DavidCheok
    @DavidCheok Před 2 lety +1

    I run all my sonos on my unifi network just fine. problem with running the sonosnet is many 2.4 GHz introduces a lot of interference. Since you are running unifi, create a main IOT 2.4ghz only network, ensure multicast is enabled and the IP distribution is on the same network as your phones. This way you can ensure the environment is clean and only has channels you can control. Sonos will still create a 5ghz for the satellite and sub links though but 5ghz is much easier to manage efficiently than 2.4.

    Peter..I been wanted to get a pair of One SL's and a Sub Mini to go with my Arc (just got the Arc recently), but in my researching lots of people seem to have issues with connection problems. I have a newer WiFi Mesh System Router which is next to the room with the Arc. Do you think most drops are all based on bad / older weak signal routers or maybe bad firmware? Should I be ok with dropouts? Thanks for all the hard work and great videos. I also am amazed how kind, humble and helpful you are to others. Keep up the amazing videos!

    • @PeterPee
      @PeterPee  Před rokem +1

      Thanks for your kind comments! The dropout issues can be due to the signal strength of mesh network set wrongly and even when the connection is weak, it is still holding on to the connection, which causes all sorts of issues. This setting is not within the technical reach of most consumer home users of mesh networks. Sonos has advised against mesh network for this reason. I am using a mesh network, but it took me a long time to set up the ubiquiti mesh network to achieve stable rock solid connection. If all your devices are within good signal range of the main mesh router, you should be good to go.

    How does this work with Eero? I recently attempted to reinstall my Sonos system (six Sonos One speakers, Sonos Beam and Sonos Sub-Woofer). I attempted to connect the first Sonos One speaker to my Eero gateway, but was unable to complete the installation. Subsequent Sonos speakers were also unable to connect to my wireless network. Eero is a mesh network (the same as Sonos Boost), but it seems incompatible. As an aside, on the Sonos FAQ page, they state that the only Sonos speaker that can be wired is the Sonos One, and it cannot be part of a home theater. Their installation instructions aren't well-written - they make general references but fail miserably on stating the exact operational sequence.

    I recently had fibre install but my SONOS ONE won’t work with my new router, I contacted SONOS for support and they said that the speaker is not compatible with a Wi-Fi 6 router. They did suggest that the 2.4GHz signal should be set up to support both 802.11b and 802.11g. Additionally, disabling the 802.11ax setting, as Sonos may encounter difficulties connecting to a network with this standard.
    I think this is very poor for a new speaker, especially considering that my 9 year old Mac works with the router fine!

      @PeterPee  Před 2 lety +2

      Just use standard ethernet cable. But that said, maybe let’s be clear about what standard ethernet cable means. Today, cat 8 cables exist. And cat 5,5e cables should be really old at this point in time. So when you say standard, are you referring to cat 5,5e? Cos if you arr then those are really old and you should be mindful that old cables can deteriorate and lose shielding and get all sorts of problems with electrical noise.
      If it’s not much hassle, just get cat 6 cables and be done with it.

You have saved me from buying a Boost.. and I will put this towards an AppleTV 4k instead 😊. I have also ordered a high quality Cat8 Ethernet cable for the Beam Gen2 ^__^=. Your channel is great. Totally fing ridiculous to have to replace the router because of a speaker stopped working after an update! I find that connectivity of sonos devices causes lot of frustration. Bizar, if it were cheap ok, but that’s the last you can say about Sonos. Sonos must comply with the world, not the world with Sonos.

    The issue I’ve been having for the last few weeks or so, is when casting CZcams from my iPhone, to my TV but to the Sky Q TV box - after a few videos/ videos pauses/ ads playing, my sub and one SLs drop out of audio sync with the Arc (which is hard wired via switch to my router) so the rear channels and sub are on the SonosNET.
    Annoyingly for me, the only way to get them back in sync again is to turn them off at the plug, and turn back on - wish there was a reboot function in the app to power cycle the Sonos hardware!

    I thought it was just me!!!!! Yes I'm having issues too, just in the last 4 - 6 or so weeks!!!!! I have the arc, sub and 2 x Ones's in my movie room... my issue has been an echoing type sound from the rear's, sub has occasionally also given me issues (almost like it'sout of sync). The fix is that I go to the mange network section in the app and add a trusted network, I run it on whichever device is the issue i.e. the sub or the one's. As soon as I do that it is fixed again. I run a mesh network (Orbi 11 router and a satellite router down the other end of the house) and the sonos is connected to the 2.4ghz network. My router is only 1 room away from my sonos system and has never been an issue for the 12 months prior to this issue happening.

    • @PeterPee
      @PeterPee  Před 2 lety +1

      I did some research and I read that Sonos doesn’t really support wireless repeaters. While it doesn’t specifically states that they won’t support mesh, I think some mesh network implementation doesn’t use a separate backhaul and this might cause issue. That said, the Orbi is a good mesh setup and should not have any issues.
      Also, my issues aren’t with syncing. The Symfonisk bookshelf speakers were just distorting and not playing. It could be a slightly different problem though. But since I moved the arc to a wired connection everything has been rock solid.

    What about if I just have the Sonos Roam as my only speaker and it only uses Wifi? Mine keeps cutting out using Airplay, Apple Music audio stops and skips, Alexa gets unresponsive, before the last updates worked fine and my Wifi signal is pretty good. I can’t buy the Sonos Boost because it isn’t supported by Portable speakers like the Roam or the Move, and unfortunately, I’m not a technician to troubleshoot Sonos networking. Is it an efective way to improve its performance or are issues generated by the Sonos updates that can’t be fixed? Should I wait until a release or is it an effective solution to these issues? Your room is also a speaker, every room is defrent. First you fix your room (nice panels cause design
      is also important) then you find the perfect position for your speakers (honestly it's a huge conversation) after fixing few things (if needed) then you "play" with the settings, I can't tell you which settings are the best for you cause we are in defrent rooms but I can explain few things.
      If you sit on the couch and you watch something on low volume you can use loudness (below 40-30%) at higher volume you have to close it cause it will do the opposite it will ruin the sound quality. If you want more bass go to eq settings first and + the bass +1 to 3-4(it adds some kick) then if you want more bass then + the sub volume gently 😉 (if you want more bass after those steps place the woofer on the couch next to you 😀)
      Treble in my case is +0 but I have panels (they help alot) you have to find it your self.
      In every setting you touch do it gently +1 at the time or -1 spend some time and then change it if you don't like it.
      If you have any specific question let me know if I can help.
