My friend's a railway modeller and he buys a fair number of limited-run resin kits of unusual prototypes. They're all beautifully cast - almost as good as a plastic injection moulding in many cases. There's absolutely no excuse for something as rubbish as this. Horrible in every way.
You can use a fine tooth saw to remove the parts Steve - but resin dust is nasty stuff, so when sawing or sanding, you need to wear a mask and thoroughly clean up the residue. Another good reason not to bother.
Thanks for the advice, i work in a Hazmat environment, i will probably request the lending of some adequate PPE when construction commences; i should probably attempt a more rational method of construction than resorting to the B&D.

I am sure that resin is indeed a learned skill, one that i shall be avoiding like the plague for the foreseeable future. Just watched one of your vids, love your style my friend, watched the one with the Esci Demag 10 and the 7.5cm howitzer, i actually have the 2023 Italeri Rebox of this sitting in my stash, hopefully i wont have to deal with the pain that you seemed to have to deal with on your early 80's Esci as mine states "new parts", i'm saving mine for the future, as well i'm just a novice on a mad mission. I like the design, not seen one before but i love different stuff & mainly kit bash/ scratch build. I'm working on a resin kit of a 50's style robot from a model builder & the parts were great with minimal sanding, ltd run garage kits in resin seem in my experience to be quality controlled a lot better. On a good note if you do build it you get bragging rights.

I also intend to have a go at building this perhaps over the next 2-3 weeks, though as it will be my first attempt at a reisn kit, the end result may be a little catostrophic, but hey you gotta start somewhere with these things. best regards andy.

The only kit to date that ended up in the bin in total disgust was a resin kit from Planet Models. Outside my skill level at the time, (and probably still). Tuck it away until you have a bigger tool cache and a resin add on
It's disgraceful that a product like this can be legally sold. The manufacturers have a blatant disrespect to the quality control process. Just imagine what their *REJECTS* look like.

@@TheNoviceModeller I'll readily admit that I've very little experience with resin and, even then, only 1/72 scale. To be honest, I think they're ok for wargaming, but very little else.
I looked up resin kit building and they require Ca superglue or 2 part epoxy to build. Haven't used either to build a kit. The range of subjects in kit models is amazing. I am interested in unusual German aircraft from ww2 such as the Horten jet that could fly at 1000 km an hour and was the basis of the American stealth type aircraft today. It is only recently that I had even heard of such an aircraft and many other jets and experimental aircraft from that period. Some of the flying boats and even the Gotha from WW1 are different to the norm. Eastern bloc countries had some unusual aircraft and even Italy produced some unusual looking aircraft. It is fascinating to see the variety of aircraft that have been produced as model kits. Look foward to more of your videos.
@@johnorlitta Well the b2 looks remarkedly like the Horten 229 which was developed and flew i believe in the early to mid 1940's. The American Army found 2 complete ones in 1945.
Hello again Barry, Unicraft do a really good range of German WW2 prototypes, i'd highly advise you give them a go PMSL. I have watched a couple of documentary type videos on here about the Horten, its quite amazing and quite scary to think what the "unmentionables" were capable of, i am a particular fan of the Blohm and Voss BV138 flying clog which i think is beautifully hideous. Additionally i think i saw somewhere that someone has made a, i think resin kit, of the "Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark" flying wing which was basically i figment of i think Lucas and Spielbergs imagination.
@johnorlitta Hello there john thanks for watching, the Northrop YB-35? i remember this plane from a book i had years ago, just discovered they stuck a few jet engines on it and turned it into the YB-49.
@NoviceModelling Jack Northrop worked on several flying wing projects, the propeller driven N-1M and N-9M being the first ones before moving up to the prop driven YB-35.
I have build kits like that. Many garage kits in the 90's were similar. Plus a hundred air bubbles on the parts, grainy surface, warped parts.... plus many times they had white metal or early photoetch parts and vacuformed canopies....those were fun.

I have previously done a similar video on a New Zealand produced Ventura Spitfire that was in my novice opinion a bit of a mess, i was approached by a few more experienced modellers who kind of corrected me on that model suggesting it was actually something a "bit special" i now own 6 Ventura Spit kits. Because of this i have kind of become a bit interested in what i refer to as the "weird, wonderful and worst" of the modelling world and have purchased a few others, this Unicraft being one and yes i have some nasty looking vintage kits with white metal parts and a proper Vacuform kit to have a go at probably within the next few weeks. I also butchered a Starfix P51D Mustang using my rather unique B&D-S-M technique this video is worth a look for pure amusement value. I built their FTP Mustang and only used the upper fuselage cockpit section. The resin was a pale creamy almost white chalky type that I couldn’t cut or sand to any kind of finish. I ended up using a Revell Mustang and scratch building all the rest to produce a passable model. Shame really they make some really interesting subjects but never again

Personally i am just a novice here and this is way beyond my skill set, though i was well aware of what i was getting myself into, as this was a recommendation from another viewer.

Having built a number of resin and limited run kits I’m not impressed with many of the offerings and the time and dedication required to complete them. There are a few I will build in the future as I doubt they will ever be available as a more reasonable kit. I can say about my experience with these kits is that my appreciation of a well done injection molded model has greatly grown as has my researching and scratch building skills along with my problem solving abilities. This model looks on par with most companies offerings and finding any kind of instructions with these kits is usually more a roll of the dice then a given practice. Which is a shame because lack of information is the biggest reason these kits were made in the first place and it would be nice to have their information to assist with the modeling of the subject. I also think the lack of information is the main reason these kits never make it out of the box. While I have a few of these kits slowly crawling to completion in my collection I find the larger these kits get the more terminal their problems become. Resin is great for conversion and detail parts but so many specialized techniques are required to bring this kits to completion that if you do get one done, or even mostly completed, their saving grace is they do give a sense of a real accomplishment.

This model was purchased by recommendation of an experienced modeller who perhaps didn't approve of my treatment of a NZ Ventura Spitfire Mk22, but perhaps appreciated my point of view as a novice attempting to build a rather rough and ready, limited run kit, after completely bodging my Ventura i went out and bought another 4 as i think they will provide an interesting benchmark for my progress building models over the coming months. Like yourself having looked at Unicrafts offerings they do indeed produce many obscure kits that in my opinion most main stream manufacturers wouldn't touch, this is a shame but understandable from a business perspective. i think i will be giving this a go sometime over the next few weeks, though not possessing the required skills and equipment i will probably make a bit of a mess of it, possibly for my own and my viewers amusement, however if you are going to have a go at any hobby, sport etc you have to fail first to learn later. The French Aeroengineers created the Dewotine D.520 and my favorite French airplane of the era, But I have to hand to French of the thirties, they had a penchant for ugly. Bloch or Amiot.

I have a few Unicraft kits....what a mistake. One of them looks like it has leprosy, one has a surface texture like old coffee grounds, and the other one has pock-marks millimeters deep.

I’d never buy any resin kit. The need free parts from huge blocks of resin, the need to wear a mask while sawing and sanding, the poor level of detail, the sagging under even mild heat, the priming and painting issues… Especially not for fifty bucks. No chance. And yeah, that plane is fugly.

Short-run resin kits can be pretty bad (and expensive) - my opinion is that you would only ever buy one if you desperately wanted that subject and there was no other option. Never heard of a hot-knife before, to be honest I would not want to be creating resin fumes. I seen the recommendation to use a razor saw to work with resin parts many times. But whether you are burning, sawing or sanding please use a mask and goo extraction because resin can be nasty stuff.

The Fairey Gannet is no looker LOL, but compared to this it's a supermodel LOL. i bought this Unicraft kit as a recommendation from another viewer who suggested that these kits were a bit erm different LOL, the choice of aircraft was accidental based on what i could get hold of and price, though Unicrafts kit line up is full of weird and wonderful aircraft. i have a few other not exactly stellar quality / non modeller friendly kits to examine over the coming months, but find myself constantly distracted by other kits and things i want to build, will be revisiting the "is this the worst kit ever" format at some point as its kind of fun LOL. totally appreciate this is a resin kit and comes with a whole load different challenges, cant wait to get my teeth into one of my Vacu-form kits LOL. and yes i will be building this at some point.
OH MY MODELLING GOD! for about two quid and a couple of hours research, you could have bought plasticard and made this horror from scratch without too much trouble using a knife/scalpel, a pencil and rule, a protractor, a circle cutter and a small bottle of glue (and you don't really need a circle cutter). £18 reduced from £32 is an insane price.

Luckily i am a novice with a curious mind and a willingness to splash the cash on what i have come to think of as the "weird, wonderful and worst" of the modelling world. This was recommended to me by an experienced modeller who i think saw the funny side of me butchering a 1990's NZ Ventura Spitfire mk 22 a few weeks ago, i have a few other horror shows lined up for the coming weeks. i will probably attempt to build this at some point in the next few weeks but it will be badly as i lack the exreience and the tools to make a decent job of it. hope you have the chance to watch a few more of my videos. oh scratch building models, something i may have a go at in the future, but i kind of need to master the art of gluing an Airfix together first. Having made models for fifty eight years, I have seen some pretty poor examples from model companies but at least only ever had to pay pennies for some of them. Some new kits are provided with so much high tech detailing that I have to, begrudgingly, admit they're worth the cash, but the current trend of companies creating models according to the strategies of corporate cash-in philosophy is truly annoying to a second generation model maker with kids who want to take up the hobby but can't afford the high prices.

No, you cannot use styrene glue! Styrene glue is a solvent that softens the polystyrene plastic in the joint causing it to weld together when the glue evaporates. This does not work AT ALL with resin plastics, the solvent has zero effect on them. What glue to use depends on a lot of things, sometimes superglue is the right answer, sometimes two-component epoxy glue, sometimes plain old white wood glue. Feel free to use several different glues on one model. You may want to roughen up the contact area for the glue so it sticks better, it will not penetrate the material at all so you are relying on a purely mechanical bond.
My grandfather said there is no such thing as a terrible (worst/ugliest) well, maybe ugly, only challenging models that improve your skills. I found out that Ihave horrendous model building skills. Still I'mhaving fun building!

Hello there and thanks for watching, Funny thing is i cant find another CZcamsr that has built this model, so if i was to build it tomorrow, badly, according to the dictionary definition I would technically be an; EXPERT; "a person who is very knowledgeable about or skilful in a particular area." Obviously this is just an observational response to you're comment, but i would be in a rather unique position to offer advice on what not to do or where i went wrong, learning from mistakes is useful when wanting to achieve competence at any hobby . The English language is a beautiful thing, i suppose its a bit of a shame that not everyone is an "expert" on its correct usage.
@@TheNoviceModeller you can certainly become a better modeler if you manage to turn this very simple and primitive kit into a decent looking model plane. But be prepared to fail because it isn't easy to achieve. It takes skills and experience.
A fair response, i am just a bit prickly about the whole expert/experienced aspect of modelling on CZcams. Personally i have watched many videos of expert modellers on this platform producing near works of art made from plastic, i stopped feeling encouraged to have a go at building kits again very quickly, as how was i supposed to achieve this near constant stream of excellence? I never really found any "novice" modellers starting out or returning to this hobby with all the pitfalls, problems and disappointments that may ensue. I like to think i have a can do, will do attitude; i changed my attitude and modelling philosophy when i started putting videos on here, my aim is to have fun, i own this model so i can build it, therefore at some point i will build it, like a Hasegawa this is 20 pieces of plastic that require gluing together, whether it looks good, bad or ugly to me is irrelevant, the fun is in the finding out. Like you have said "it takes skills and experience" the best way to gain skills and experience is to try and fail, after all a pro footballer is not born a pro footballer, Therefor best way to learn how to deal with a resin kit is to build one, i don't need to be an expert to have a go, please don't tell me that i have to be, as i have no real interest in becoming an expert anyway. best regards andy

I did the same many years ago and realized the difficulties trying to turn a very basic model kit into something decent. To be honest...I gave up. I didn't have the skills and patience back then. The plane itself is so ugly, it's beautiful. As for the kit, the box is better than the contents, I guess. I would have called on my dremel rotary to file out the parts to shape, but it's probably much better to leave it in peace. As for the doors, it's like you have to mark a window rectangle, mask it with tape, then paint it in the color of the whole plane(which would definitely still show variation due to different material) then remove the mask, and so on. Definitely not worth the trouble.
Hello there and thanks for watching. i kind of agree with you about your "so ugly it's beautiful" statement, it's a totally bizarre design (was never put into production apparently not even a prototype). i think a Dremel is on my future shopping list. The doors are totally bizarre, your suggestions seem very logical. Like you say the box is probably the best part LOL. I have a few ideas on how to proceed with this, though as per my previous treatments of a Ventura and a Starfix kit, they tend to lean towards irrational insanity than any standard model building methodology.
It goes way past ugly, waves at revolting as it continues on towards ghastly and actually goes so far round, it becomes interesting and intriguing. The kit looks awful and stays awful.

As others have commented, Unicraft are pretty awful. Not a good advert for resin kits, some of which can be quite buildable. I have built a few over the years. A good quality superglue is OK for smaller kits and epoxy is better for larger kits. TBH that is not the worst Unicraft kit I have seen.

Someone should sell a box with a block of resin and a bag of gravel in it and if anyone films a vid asking "wtf is this?" then just flame them because obviously its a kit for experienced modellers.

Well, you are definitely going to need several beers to build this. Resin or vacuform kits are notoriously difficult to build. The most unique aspect of this aircraft is in all my years which are many, I've never seen this aircraft at all. By design it would be terrible to fly so it must be a conceptual model like many of the models of WW2 German aircraft. So if not the ugliest kit, you definitely have the most odd kit. Now i havent forgotten about it, its a really good & funny idea, i think when i get my dirty dozen painted i will have some "shelf queens" of my own, i am guessing not many people are familiar with the term so maybe this will help educate them? Dont know! PO box pretty sure they cost money and the Post office are a right bunch thieving, money grabbing C+&$%S, so will have to think about that aswell.

Hello there Eric, apologies a rather poor attempt at humour on my part. It's a rather nasty looking kit isn't it, if you look at unicraft's website most of the kits they do are extremely weird prototypes, its a rather fascinating but niche subject, probably with a very small market. I agree that perhaps they would be better as some sort of injection moulded limited run. TBH i am very new to this hobby, i have developed an interest over the past few weeks for what i call the "weird, wonderful and worst" of the modeling world so i will be doing a few similar reviews to this. When it comes to building this well i really am unsure at the moment and will be concentrating on a few other things, but who knows one rainy day i might just give this god awful looking thing a go.
If you practice throwing kits together badly, all you will learn is how to throw kits together badly. If you practice building kits the best you can, then you will improve.

I have never gone to the extremes with tools that you have, I have always tried to make a kit work but as you might know most will make their way to the spares box. I now focus on small scale military ww2. I also scratchbuild a lot so no kit is ever built straight from the box. I have won quite a few trophies over the years so I must have finally got to a good standard. Just a shame that its taken me the best part of forty years. Hello again Brian, I'm 47 going on 12 LOL. Ive just restarted modelling basically 5-6 weeks ago, though its been in my mind for a while now. I decided it might be fun to document my progress on CZcams, i am subscribed on my private CZcams to many of the stellar CZcams modellers who produce mind boggling near works of art, I couldn't find many "novices" though and to be honest i find the quality of the likes of Plasmo and so many others, well kind of intimidating and perhaps even off-putting, to a novice like myself. Anyway to cut a long story short i had bought a load of 1/35 kits and had some really lofty ideas, then panicked as i didn't want to mess them all up, "sell them on Ebay i thought", I calmed down a bit, decided to practice with 1/72 Spitfires, i now have 40, i'm just quick building 10-12 of them so i can get some practice in with my painting hurdy gurdy/airbrush, (the painting aspect of modelling terrifies me;) had a run in with a few experienced modellers when i was over critical and abused a 1990's NZ Ventura Spitfire, a few people suggested some other ahem not exactly stellar manufacturers, so ive bought a few of them also, additionally discovered the whole reboxing of old moulds under different names, reissues etc, i suppose i have "fallen down the rabbit hole" and have kind of realised that there is a lot more to modelling than buy it, build it, paint it. I suppose currently i am just happy to baffle, bemuse and amuse a few people with my antics and erm enthusiasm??? Will be getting a bit more serious in a few weeks though. Got a lot of respect for fellas like yourself who have been at this hobby for years, been getting a lot of good advice and tips aswell, though the prospect of putting a few awards on my mantle piece like you have...... pretty sure that aint never gonna happen to me LOL. @@TheNoviceModeller Hi Andy. The only advice that I would give anyone is don't take on to much and try to stay interested in your subject matter. I like you tend to have more than one model on the go at any one time, but I do tend to push them through. As I said before I now model small scale military, so Airfix,matchbox,Hasegawa and others are my bag. I used to do aircraft, I probably had about thirty janging from my ceiling as a kid (I think everyone did that) but I stopped that when one fell on me one night. I still have a collection of RAF bombers part built in my stash that of course I will get round to finishing. As for painting well I gave up on airbrushes years ago, I got tired of wearing most of the paint. So I stick to acrylics now, there much more forgiving as a medium. The likes of Mr Plasmo and others like them I do respect them and what they do but I think that what they do is beyond the realms of your average modeller. As I said I have won a few trophies but I never put my work on the table expecting to win, thats a bonus. I put my models on the table for people to enjoy and to let people see what I can do. I like it when people ask me "how did you do that"? I am good at scratchbuilding so I never make a nodel straight out of the box. But I suppose thats why it takes me about three weeks to buil a small vehicle. Anyway enough of my ramblings, I appreciate your replies and I think that we are lucky to live in a golden age of modelling right now. Some of the kits are amazing but the cost is a killer. So we buy cheap and hope that we don't buy a turkey eh? I think that your still learning that. Good luck.
hi again Brian, off for a few days so going to unpack the painting hurdy gurdy (airbrush) and have a go at some of my "dirty dozen" spitfires. My interest as far as modelling is concerned is WW2, always been very interested in the subject, pretty much going to stick to 1/35 land based, 1/72 aircraft and i do intend to get and have a go at a few 1/600 or 1/700 naval at some point. LOL as a kid i never hung my models from the ceiling they were stashed on a cupboard, i sold them to a mate when i was about 15 for i think it was a £10 WHSMITH gift voucher and £5 in real money. I built a load of 1/35 90% finished afrika korps when i was made redundant about 2007 and still have them, i think i will be posting a video about them at some point. i think like yourself, with your reference to displaying your models at competitions; i approached this Youtubing malarkey with little real desire for getting a pat on the back from anyone, i thought the novice having a go would be interesting, genuinely thought i would get a few views and comments but no where near this level of bemused interest. Of course with the increased level of interest and the CZcams Financial carrot that is always just over the horizon LOL it adds a different dimension to the whole process. Anyway going to keep trying to put one foot in front of the other and see where this weird journey takes me cheers andy.
I am as far from an expert modeller as you get, and have built some real dogs in my time. But that looks like someone has tipped some resin in a jelly mould and called it a kit. And to add insult to injury they are asking £30+ for it.
It was recommended to me LOL by an experienced modeller after i was over critical a 1990's NZ Ventura Spitfire, he assured me Unicraft were awful and i splashed the cash to satisfy my curiosity. I have another similar "whats in the box" Vid of a Starfix P51D Mustang and a build vid, watch out for the B&D LOL.
hello there and thanks for watching, not sure, what info i could find was pretty baisic, my understanding of short landing and take off planes from the era such as the Storch and Lyasander is that they had quite a large wing surface for lift, this has a very small, narrow wing surface so i don't think so, but TBH i am assuming quite a lot here.
My friend's a railway modeller and he buys a fair number of limited-run resin kits of unusual prototypes. They're all beautifully cast - almost as good as a plastic injection moulding in many cases. There's absolutely no excuse for something as rubbish as this. Horrible in every way.

You can use a fine tooth saw to remove the parts Steve - but resin dust is nasty stuff, so when sawing or sanding, you need to wear a mask and thoroughly clean up the residue. Another good reason not to bother.

Thanks for the advice, i work in a Hazmat environment, i will probably request the lending of some adequate PPE when construction commences; i should probably attempt a more rational method of construction than resorting to the B&D.

Hello there Bill thanks for watching. It is an odd one isn't it? i have developed a bit of a taste for the weird and wonderful. I am sure that resin is indeed a learned skill, one that i shall be avoiding like the plague for the foreseeable future. Just watched one of your vids, love your style my friend, watched the one with the Esci Demag 10 and the 7.5cm howitzer, i actually have the 2023 Italeri Rebox of this sitting in my stash, hopefully i wont have to deal with the pain that you seemed to have to deal with on your early 80's Esci as mine states "new parts", i'm saving mine for the future, as well i'm just a novice on a mad mission.

I like the design, not seen one before but i love different stuff & mainly kit bash/ scratch build. I'm working on a resin kit of a 50's style robot from a model builder & the parts were great with minimal sanding, ltd run garage kits in resin seem in my experience to be quality controlled a lot better. On a good note if you do build it you get bragging rights.

Hello there @billgalloway1799 and thanks for watching.I am just a novice so my appreciation of these things is a little basic, this particular kit manufacturer was recommended to me by an experienced modelller as i have developed a bit of an interest in what i call the "weird, worst and wonderful" of the modelling world, will be looking at a few more 1random kits over the coming weeks. I also intend to have a go at building this perhaps over the next 2-3 weeks, though as it will be my first attempt at a reisn kit, the end result may be a little catostrophic, but hey you gotta start somewhere with these things.

I looked up resin kit building and they require Ca superglue or 2 part epoxy to build. Haven't used either to build a kit.
The range of subjects in kit models is amazing. I am interested in unusual German aircraft from ww2 such as the Horten jet that could fly at 1000 km an hour and was the basis of the American stealth type aircraft today. It is only recently that I had even heard of such an aircraft and many other jets and experimental aircraft from that period. Some of the flying boats and even the Gotha from WW1 are different to the norm. Eastern bloc countries had some unusual aircraft and even Italy produced some unusual looking aircraft. It is fascinating to see the variety of aircraft that have been produced as model kits.

Jack Northrop was working on a flying wing prototype in the USA right around the same time as the Horten Brothers.
@@johnorlitta Well the b2 looks remarkedly like the Horten 229 which was developed and flew i believe in the early to mid 1940's. The American Army found 2 complete ones in 1945.
Hello again Barry, Unicraft do a really good range of German WW2 prototypes, i'd highly advise you give them a go PMSL. I have watched a couple of documentary type videos on here about the Horten, its quite amazing and quite scary to think what the "unmentionables" were capable of, i am a particular fan of the Blohm and Voss BV138 flying clog which i think is beautifully hideous. Additionally i think i saw somewhere that someone has made a, i think resin kit, of the "Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark" flying wing which was basically i figment of i think Lucas and Spielbergs imagination.
@johnorlitta Hello there john thanks for watching, the Northrop YB-35? i remember this plane from a book i had years ago, just discovered they stuck a few jet engines on it and turned it into the YB-49.
@NoviceModelling Jack Northrop worked on several flying wing projects, the propeller driven N-1M and N-9M being the first ones before moving up to the prop driven YB-35.
I have build kits like that. Many garage kits in the 90's were similar. Plus a hundred air bubbles on the parts, grainy surface, warped parts.... plus many times they had white metal or early photoetch parts and vacuformed canopies....those were fun.

I have previously done a similar video on a New Zealand produced Ventura Spitfire that was in my novice opinion a bit of a mess, i was approached by a few more experienced modellers who kind of corrected me on that model suggesting it was actually something a "bit special" i now own 6 Ventura Spit kits. Because of this i have kind of become a bit interested in what i refer to as the "weird, wonderful and worst" of the modelling world and have purchased a few others, this Unicraft being one and yes i have some nasty looking vintage kits with white metal parts and a proper Vacuform kit to have a go at probably within the next few weeks. I also butchered a Starfix P51D Mustang using my rather unique B&D-S-M technique this video is worth a look for pure amusement value. Anyway hope you get chance to have a look at a few of my other "is the the Worst" videos when i produce them over the coming weeks.

I built their FTP Mustang and only used the upper fuselage cockpit section. The resin was a pale creamy almost white chalky type that I couldn’t cut or sand to any kind of finish. I ended up using a Revell Mustang and scratch building all the rest to produce a passable model. Shame really they make some really interesting subjects but never again

Personally i am just a novice here and this is way beyond my skill set, though i was well aware of what i was getting myself into, as this was a recommendation from another viewer.

Having built a number of resin and limited run kits I’m not impressed with many of the offerings and the time and dedication required to complete them. There are a few I will build in the future as I doubt they will ever be available as a more reasonable kit. I can say about my experience with these kits is that my appreciation of a well done injection molded model has greatly grown as has my researching and scratch building skills along with my problem solving abilities. This model looks on par with most companies offerings and finding any kind of instructions with these kits is usually more a roll of the dice then a given practice. Which is a shame because lack of information is the biggest reason these kits were made in the first place and it would be nice to have their information to assist with the modeling of the subject. I also think the lack of information is the main reason these kits never make it out of the box. While I have a few of these kits slowly crawling to completion in my collection I find the larger these kits get the more terminal their problems become. Resin is great for conversion and detail parts but so many specialized techniques are required to bring this kits to completion that if you do get one done, or even mostly completed, their saving grace is they do give a sense of a real accomplishment.

This model was purchased by recommendation of an experienced modeller who perhaps didn't approve of my treatment of a NZ Ventura Spitfire Mk22, but perhaps appreciated my point of view as a novice attempting to build a rather rough and ready, limited run kit, after completely bodging my Ventura i went out and bought another 4 as i think they will provide an interesting benchmark for my progress building models over the coming months. Like yourself having looked at Unicrafts offerings they do indeed produce many obscure kits that in my opinion most main stream manufacturers wouldn't touch, this is a shame but understandable from a business perspective. i think i will be giving this a go sometime over the next few weeks, though not possessing the required skills and equipment i will probably make a bit of a mess of it, possibly for my own and my viewers amusement, however if you are going to have a go at any hobby, sport etc you have to fail first to learn later. Thanks again for watching and for your interesting insight into this rather odd model, i sincerely hope you have the time to pass your interesting opinions and knowledge on to myself and my viewers in the future.

I have a few Unicraft kits....what a mistake. One of them looks like it has leprosy, one has a surface texture like old coffee grounds, and the other one has pock-marks millimeters deep.

I’d never buy any resin kit. The need free parts from huge blocks of resin, the need to wear a mask while sawing and sanding, the poor level of detail, the sagging under even mild heat, the priming and painting issues…
Especially not for fifty bucks. No chance.
And yeah, that plane is fugly.

Short-run resin kits can be pretty bad (and expensive) - my opinion is that you would only ever buy one if you desperately wanted that subject and there was no other option.
Never heard of a hot-knife before, to be honest I would not want to be creating resin fumes. I seen the recommendation to use a razor saw to work with resin parts many times.
But whether you are burning, sawing or sanding please use a mask and goo extraction because resin can be nasty stuff.

The Fairey Gannet is no looker LOL, but compared to this it's a supermodel LOL. i bought this Unicraft kit as a recommendation from another viewer who suggested that these kits were a bit erm different LOL, the choice of aircraft was accidental based on what i could get hold of and price, though Unicrafts kit line up is full of weird and wonderful aircraft. i have a few other not exactly stellar quality / non modeller friendly kits to examine over the coming months, but find myself constantly distracted by other kits and things i want to build, will be revisiting the "is this the worst kit ever" format at some point as its kind of fun LOL. totally appreciate this is a resin kit and comes with a whole load different challenges, cant wait to get my teeth into one of my Vacu-form kits LOL. and yes i will be building this at some point.
I would rather get some blocks and sheets of balsa wood and carve it. It would certainly look better.

OH MY MODELLING GOD! for about two quid and a couple of hours research, you could have bought plasticard and made this horror from scratch without too much trouble using a knife/scalpel, a pencil and rule, a protractor, a circle cutter and a small bottle of glue (and you don't really need a circle cutter). £18 reduced from £32 is an insane price.

Luckily i am a novice with a curious mind and a willingness to splash the cash on what i have come to think of as the "weird, wonderful and worst" of the modelling world. This was recommended to me by an experienced modeller who i think saw the funny side of me butchering a 1990's NZ Ventura Spitfire mk 22 a few weeks ago, i have a few other horror shows lined up for the coming weeks. i will probably attempt to build this at some point in the next few weeks but it will be badly as i lack the exreience and the tools to make a decent job of it. hope you have the chance to watch a few more of my videos. oh scratch building models, something i may have a go at in the future, but i kind of need to master the art of gluing an Airfix together first.

Having made models for fifty eight years, I have seen some pretty poor examples from model companies but at least only ever had to pay pennies for some of them. Some new kits are provided with so much high tech detailing that I have to, begrudgingly, admit they're worth the cash, but the current trend of companies creating models according to the strategies of corporate cash-in philosophy is truly annoying to a second generation model maker with kids who want to take up the hobby but can't afford the high prices.

How do u stick resin kits together? Can u use styrene glue? Just wondering.
Hello there Barry thanks for watching, currently i have no idea; Unicraft have some tutorial videos on their website, i haven't looked at them yet, as i am debating what to do with it.
No, you cannot use styrene glue! Styrene glue is a solvent that softens the polystyrene plastic in the joint causing it to weld together when the glue evaporates. This does not work AT ALL with resin plastics, the solvent has zero effect on them. What glue to use depends on a lot of things, sometimes superglue is the right answer, sometimes two-component epoxy glue, sometimes plain old white wood glue. Feel free to use several different glues on one model. You may want to roughen up the contact area for the glue so it sticks better, it will not penetrate the material at all so you are relying on a purely mechanical bond.
the bits of resin ive used on some kits i use a good superglue usually deluxe materials rockit rapid.
My grandfather said there is no such thing as a terrible (worst/ugliest) well, maybe ugly, only challenging models that improve your skills. I found out that Ihave horrendous model building skills. Still I'mhaving fun building!

Hello there and thanks for watching, Funny thing is i cant find another CZcamsr that has built this model, so if i was to build it tomorrow, badly, according to the dictionary definition I would technically be an; EXPERT; "a person who is very knowledgeable about or skilful in a particular area." Obviously this is just an observational response to you're comment, but i would be in a rather unique position to offer advice on what not to do or where i went wrong, learning from mistakes is useful when wanting to achieve competence at any hobby . The English language is a beautiful thing, i suppose its a bit of a shame that not everyone is an "expert" on its correct usage.
@@TheNoviceModeller you can certainly become a better modeler if you manage to turn this very simple and primitive kit into a decent looking model plane. But be prepared to fail because it isn't easy to achieve. It takes skills and experience.
A fair response, i am just a bit prickly about the whole expert/experienced aspect of modelling on CZcams. Personally i have watched many videos of expert modellers on this platform producing near works of art made from plastic, i stopped feeling encouraged to have a go at building kits again very quickly, as how was i supposed to achieve this near constant stream of excellence? I never really found any "novice" modellers starting out or returning to this hobby with all the pitfalls, problems and disappointments that may ensue. I like to think i have a can do, will do attitude; i changed my attitude and modelling philosophy when i started putting videos on here, my aim is to have fun, i own this model so i can build it, therefore at some point i will build it, like a Hasegawa this is 20 pieces of plastic that require gluing together, whether it looks good, bad or ugly to me is irrelevant, the fun is in the finding out. Like you have said "it takes skills and experience" the best way to gain skills and experience is to try and fail, after all a pro footballer is not born a pro footballer, Therefor best way to learn how to deal with a resin kit is to build one, i don't need to be an expert to have a go, please don't tell me that i have to be, as i have no real interest in becoming an expert anyway.

I did the same many years ago and realized the difficulties trying to turn a very basic model kit into something decent. To be honest...I gave up. I didn't have the skills and patience back then. The plane itself is so ugly, it's beautiful. As for the kit, the box is better than the contents, I guess. I would have called on my dremel rotary to file out the parts to shape, but it's probably much better to leave it in peace. As for the doors, it's like you have to mark a window rectangle, mask it with tape, then paint it in the color of the whole plane(which would definitely still show variation due to different material) then remove the mask, and so on. Definitely not worth the trouble.
Hello there and thanks for watching. i kind of agree with you about your "so ugly it's beautiful" statement, it's a totally bizarre design (was never put into production apparently not even a prototype). i think a Dremel is on my future shopping list. The doors are totally bizarre, your suggestions seem very logical. Like you say the box is probably the best part LOL. I have a few ideas on how to proceed with this, though as per my previous treatments of a Ventura and a Starfix kit, they tend to lean towards irrational insanity than any standard model building methodology.
It goes way past ugly, waves at revolting as it continues on towards ghastly and actually goes so far round, it becomes interesting and intriguing. The kit looks awful and stays awful.

As others have commented, Unicraft are pretty awful. Not a good advert for resin kits, some of which can be quite buildable. I have built a few over the years. A good quality superglue is OK for smaller kits and epoxy is better for larger kits. TBH that is not the worst Unicraft kit I have seen.

Well, you are definitely going to need several beers to build this. Resin or vacuform kits are notoriously difficult to build. The most unique aspect of this aircraft is in all my years which are many, I've never seen this aircraft at all. By design it would be terrible to fly so it must be a conceptual model like many of the models of WW2 German aircraft. So if not the ugliest kit, you definitely have the most odd kit. Now i havent forgotten about it, its a really good & funny idea, i think when i get my dirty dozen painted i will have some "shelf queens" of my own, i am guessing not many people are familiar with the term so maybe this will help educate them? Dont know! PO box pretty sure they cost money and the Post office are a right bunch thieving, money grabbing C+&$%S, so will have to think about that aswell.

But I wonder if this kit had turned out a bit more sharp as a limited run injected molding plastic one.
Hello there Eric, apologies a rather poor attempt at humour on my part. It's a rather nasty looking kit isn't it, if you look at unicraft's website most of the kits they do are extremely weird prototypes, its a rather fascinating but niche subject, probably with a very small market. I agree that perhaps they would be better as some sort of injection moulded limited run. TBH i am very new to this hobby, i have developed an interest over the past few weeks for what i call the "weird, wonderful and worst" of the modeling world so i will be doing a few similar reviews to this. When it comes to building this well i really am unsure at the moment and will be concentrating on a few other things, but who knows one rainy day i might just give this god awful looking thing a go.
If you practice throwing kits together badly, all you will learn is how to throw kits together badly. If you practice building kits the best you can, then you will improve.
Hello there @bob_._. and thanks for watching, i actually posted this vid on March 26th about 5 weeks after i started my modelling journey that i chose to film and put on CZcams, the first 12 kits i built were called my "dirty Dozen" cheap kits i built quickly and badly for the sole purpose of using them for painting practice mules, i think i have moved on a bit since then, so possibly it might be an idea if you have a peek at something a bit more recent........ though i pretty much stand by my comments regarding this kit, it's pretty nasty even for a resin kit and it is one pug ugly lil plane.

@@TheNoviceModeller Hi buddy. I don't know how old you are but I am in my late fifties. So I was building some real pig kits back then. I have never gone to the extremes with tools that you have, I have always tried to make a kit work but as you might know most will make their way to the spares box. I now focus on small scale military ww2. I also scratchbuild a lot so no kit is ever built straight from the box. I have won quite a few trophies over the years so I must have finally got to a good standard. Just a shame that its taken me the best part of forty years. You,ve now got me thinking about some of the Turkeys that I have built over the years. Good luck to you.
Hello again Brian, I'm 47 going on 12 LOL. Ive just restarted modelling basically 5-6 weeks ago, though its been in my mind for a while now. I decided it might be fun to document my progress on CZcams, i am subscribed on my private CZcams to many of the stellar CZcams modellers who produce mind boggling near works of art, I couldn't find many "novices" though and to be honest i find the quality of the likes of Plasmo and so many others, well kind of intimidating and perhaps even off-putting, to a novice like myself. Anyway to cut a long story short i had bought a load of 1/35 kits and had some really lofty ideas, then panicked as i didn't want to mess them all up, "sell them on Ebay i thought", I calmed down a bit, decided to practice with 1/72 Spitfires, i now have 40, i'm just quick building 10-12 of them so i can get some practice in with my painting hurdy gurdy/airbrush, (the painting aspect of modelling terrifies me;) had a run in with a few experienced modellers when i was over critical and abused a 1990's NZ Ventura Spitfire, a few people suggested some other ahem not exactly stellar manufacturers, so ive bought a few of them also, additionally discovered the whole reboxing of old moulds under different names, reissues etc, i suppose i have "fallen down the rabbit hole" and have kind of realised that there is a lot more to modelling than buy it, build it, paint it. I suppose currently i am just happy to baffle, bemuse and amuse a few people with my antics and erm enthusiasm??? Will be getting a bit more serious in a few weeks though. Got a lot of respect for fellas like yourself who have been at this hobby for years, been getting a lot of good advice and tips aswell, though the prospect of putting a few awards on my mantle piece like you have...... pretty sure that aint never gonna happen to me LOL.

@@TheNoviceModeller Hi Andy. The only advice that I would give anyone is don't take on to much and try to stay interested in your subject matter. I like you tend to have more than one model on the go at any one time, but I do tend to push them through. As I said before I now model small scale military, so Airfix,matchbox,Hasegawa and others are my bag. I used to do aircraft, I probably had about thirty janging from my ceiling as a kid (I think everyone did that) but I stopped that when one fell on me one night. I still have a collection of RAF bombers part built in my stash that of course I will get round to finishing. As for painting well I gave up on airbrushes years ago, I got tired of wearing most of the paint. So I stick to acrylics now, there much more forgiving as a medium. The likes of Mr Plasmo and others like them I do respect them and what they do but I think that what they do is beyond the realms of your average modeller. As I said I have won a few trophies but I never put my work on the table expecting to win, thats a bonus. I put my models on the table for people to enjoy and to let people see what I can do. I like it when people ask me "how did you do that"? I am good at scratchbuilding so I never make a nodel straight out of the box. But I suppose thats why it takes me about three weeks to buil a small vehicle. Anyway enough of my ramblings, I appreciate your replies and I think that we are lucky to live in a golden age of modelling right now. Some of the kits are amazing but the cost is a killer. So we buy cheap and hope that we don't buy a turkey eh? I think that your still learning that. Good luck.

My interest as far as modelling is concerned is WW2, always been very interested in the subject, pretty much going to stick to 1/35 land based, 1/72 aircraft and i do intend to get and have a go at a few 1/600 or 1/700 naval at some point. LOL as a kid i never hung my models from the ceiling they were stashed on a cupboard, i sold them to a mate when i was about 15 for i think it was a £10 WHSMITH gift voucher and £5 in real money. I built a load of 1/35 90% finished afrika korps when i was made redundant about 2007 and still have them, i think i will be posting a video about them at some point. i think like yourself, with your reference to displaying your models at competitions; i approached this Youtubing malarkey with little real desire for getting a pat on the back from anyone, i thought the novice having a go would be interesting, genuinely thought i would get a few views and comments but no where near this level of bemused interest. Of course with the increased level of interest and the CZcams Financial carrot that is always just over the horizon LOL it adds a different dimension to the whole process. Anyway going to keep trying to put one foot in front of the other and see where this weird journey takes me

I am as far from an expert modeller as you get, and have built some real dogs in my time.
But that looks like someone has tipped some resin in a jelly mould and called it a kit. And to add insult to injury they are asking £30+ for it.
It was recommended to me LOL by an experienced modeller after i was over critical a 1990's NZ Ventura Spitfire, he assured me Unicraft were awful and i splashed the cash to satisfy my curiosity. I have another similar "whats in the box" Vid of a Starfix P51D Mustang and a build vid, watch out for the B&D LOL.

hello there and thanks for watching, not sure, what info i could find was pretty baisic, my understanding of short landing and take off planes from the era such as the Storch and Lyasander is that they had quite a large wing surface for lift, this has a very small, narrow wing surface so i don't think so, but TBH i am assuming quite a lot here.
Crashed into the Ugly Tree and hit every branch on the way through.
