- Pax is a tiny float home that was lovingly restored and renovated by Jason and Cayley over the course of a year and a half. It was one of 25 boats built in Victoria, Canada for Expo '86 but it had fallen into disrepair. With some incredible woodwork and craftsmanship by the pair, respectively a shipwright and a carpenter, it's now an absolutely stunning 1 bedroom home on the water!!

The houseboat is packed with neat features: a head with a composting toilet and a livestock trough bathtub, a chart table, a bright galley, a handmade curved cedar dinette, a storage staircase, cozy sleeping and relaxing lofts that are connected by a catwalk, and a ladder that leads to a rooftop deck.

According to the video they bought it for about $6K CND and put $40K CND into it. Now they want to sell it for $289K CND? THESE PEOPLE ARE NUTS!
@@andrewmastrandonas5123 you're forgetting labor cost. $40,000 materials plus labor cost. Lots of hours on this one. Respect their workmanship.
@@andrewmastrandonas5123 That was the cost of materials. Their time as craftspeople doing every bit of that gut renovation themselves is reflected in the asking price.
People who want this lifestyle will not think twice about paying that for it. With the craftsmanship that has gone into this home, the discerning buyer isn't going to care how much they did or didn't put into materials.
@@andrewmastrandonas5123 Hahaha. So true.....its a fine line between brilliance and insanity. People who actually do radical things know this best.
If you think you could do a better job for less money, I would genuinely encourage you to try.
That way you might create something beautiful, instead of negativity on the internet.
The most beautiful boat interior I've ever seen. So comfortable and feels spacious.
Looks great, though I would only take that boat out on a lake or keep it in a safe harbor.
Even in flat "calm seas", you run the risk of breaking lots of dishes... it could be fixed, though to each his or her own.
Exactly my thoughts!
So much light and tranquility
U haven’t seen many boats xD
Gosh @Sue, how _many_ boats have you seen?
Wow!!!
When a carpenter & a boat builder put their heads together….😁💛
It’s like these exact two people were what was needed to make this place so beautiful and unique. Both of their touches made this place amazing.
Yes it takes two.. I think of this often, such synergy can come into play, from design to motivation.. I could do build on much of this type project, but by myself I'd lack will to see it through vs these 2 people did. I live near the water, see great project boats every week, then head over to the freeway to rejoin my usual day..
Byl to osud :D :D :D
This boat is the love child of two great professions
This is the only “tiny home” I’ve ever seen that I felt I could actually LIVE in. You & your lady are sooo accomplished & gifted in your skills!! Unbelievable how much storage you have incorporated - and all the stunning woodwork!! I hope you guys recoup your investment several times over!! Whoever purchases this will have a true treasure! ❤️
He and his lady are no more, weren’t you paying attention.? They are selling the boat and sailing off into the sunset in different boats in different directions.
The murderous pedafile wackjob Emperor Nero had a massive mansion built. It was truly unbelievable and it was decorates with the finest Gold and linens from around the world. Marble craftsmanship and stone work adorned every inch of the place. Precious gems where placed into the ceiling simple to just catch the light. It was so luxurious and expensive it nearly bankrupted the Roman empire. When it was finally finished its reported Nero walked in and said "Finally a home worthy of a human being!"
Isn't it amazing how our opinions on what's livable are so subjective.
I agree with Kitty!
@@mobilemoke He said they're selling the boat because "It's time for a new stage for Cayley and I". That doesn't mean they're splitting up. That just means they're selling the boat and they're going to live somewhere else.
Is there another part I missed?
@@JamieM470 I didnt hear where they were splitting up either.
This has to be the absolute best interior design I'd ever seen. Just stunning from floor to ceiling.
its amazing isn't it. And then he pulled the drawers out from under the stairs......
I’ve been fascinated by tiny homes for several years. Combining the tiny home concept with a boat and finishing the way you two did is the hands down winner in my view. Beautiful work.
No you haven't
Coming from a family of boat people from South America, I totally appreciate everything the owners have done to rescue & renovate this beautiful boat. Being on the water is so special & peaceful 😌. Good luck in your life journeys 🌸
I've seen some pretty impressive tiny homes and building always requires skill. But this is artistry. Jason and Cayley should be extremely proud of what they've crafted. It is absolutely one of the most awe-inspiring tiny structures I've seen. Like... wow.
I love how he keeps giving credit to her so sweet. Gorgeous house love the video
She clearly earned it
Love listening to passionate builders nerd out about their craftsmanship
Home developers need to take a lesson from people who build tiny homes. Under stairs and inside stairs should always be functional. And every bathroom should have a window.
What a dreamboat! They are made for each other and that boat was restored with love. ❤️
This boat is beautiful. I love all the curves and how you found storage in such practical places.
I’ve been a live aboard for 21 years. I really found this interesting. You and your wife have done very impressive beautiful work. I was really surprised at the space for a 30’. I can see why you’re very comfortable and proud to live on it.
Can i ask do you need to pay the tax for houseboat ?
That tiny-house boat is a magical work of art.
My goodness, this is such a beautiful boat 💗 thank you for allowing us to see your home.
Thanks for watching Janey, happy you enjoyed the tour :)
This boat is a piece of ART. Everything flows together organically.. the woodwork is flawless. What a welcoming space… I’d rather live in a boat like this than inside some nouveau riche nightmare of huge space with all straight angles..👌🏽
What a stunning houseboat. The quality of every item they built and the light that comes in, amazing. That bench and arbutus rail are my favourites. Oh and the deck. Must be hard for them to let it go…
Jason and Cayley did a beautiful job on this restoration/renovation.
My son-in-law builds custom tiny homes here in Colorado. I’ve toured several of them and am quite impressed with the layouts and storage. I love this boat. It’s beautiful!
what is his company called, I'd love to see some of them! I love the tiny home and c container home movement!

I live in Colorado! Does he ever showcase his work at the Denver tiny home expo?
My husband used to build these in Victoria in the 80s. The boat building yard was down near Capital Iron. Jason, you've bought back many great memories. You and Caley have done a fantastic job.
This is so exciting for me to see!!!
I walked home past Westbay every day and watched you guys working on this boat when it was old and yellow. So cool to see how wonderful it turned out!
Your “tiny” home on the water is amazing - you both created a beautiful and functional place honoring yourself and the environment!
This was the most beautiful boat house I have ever seen. Absolutely gorgeous.
The only downside I can think of is the many, many days of rain, which makes the open sun deck almost useless. I live on the island too.
@@myleshagar9722 Victoria has the driest summer in Canada. Victoria is protected by a rain shadow, so we don't get anywhere near the rain that some other parts of the island get, and only about 1/2 the rain that Vancouver gets.
this design is so light and airy. its truly an work of art. I can imagine simply being at ease in a space like this
Doing what you love is one of life's simplest but greatest reward. Inspiring....
I absolutely love this boat. Im retired Navy and my life goal is to live on a ship again lol.
Blown away by how clean the interior design is.
“Moving on” Made me think a baby was on the way.😄 This home is so cute. So much attention to detail, and beautiful wood.❤️
Me too 🥰
They’re asking $289K CAD for this. I just figured they got bored/annoyed with being there and wanted to make a profit off their handiwork.
Worth every penny
@@davidyale75
I heard they’re splitting up...time to cash-out the assets!!!
I have lived on my boat for 20 plus years. Great job. Wonderful design.
I admire anybody who lives in tiny homes.
Tiny house living isn’t for everyone and there’s absolutely no way I could make it work for me. I admire anyone who has the ability and determination to live such a minimalist and lower waste lifestyle.
It’s a lovely boat for sure. I’d find it really hard to let something I poured so much of myself into, but I can understand wanting to take on the next challenge as well.
Truth is, it isn't for anyone.
@@maxjohnson1758 honestly. Housing prices are absolutely absurd, you shouldn't have to resort to living in a walk-in closet sized space, but it's the only option for many people.
@@NotALotOfColonial_SpaghettiToG Housing prices are completely out of control all across the US, and I really feel for young people just starting out. It’s especially hard for people with physical disabilities too, as we have very specific requirements for independent living. I could never live with a loft or ladder, spiral staircase, bathrooms the size of a closet, kitchen with no low storage, and more. Even a level parking space isn’t a nice to have, it’s a requirement for safe loading/unloading my chair from my vehicle. I know I’m very lucky to have a house I can live in with just minor modifications and I’m so grateful. You’re right, reasonable housing should not be out of reach for the average person. We are messed up.
@@pinkmonkeybird2644 I'm exactly where you are! I do have a little choice, because I can use a prosthetic leg, but inside I use my chair. My chair doesn't fit into my bathroom, but I use crutches in there. I was just amputated below knee Feb 5th, and was house-bound for a year before that. I certainly will never have a ladder, spiral, etc (even the four steps up my walk I still need crutches while wearing my leg.)
Living completely independently seems impossible.
I do hope you get to live your best life possible 👍🏻
Sounds like you have alot of junk
*I would live on that boat in a heartbeat. It's beautiful!!!* 💙
A carpenter and boat builder combo? That is indeed the perfect union for such a project!
This is THE most beautiful example of tiny home design I've ever seen. Stunning!
This is a one Gorgeous boat home. It's very unique has lots of storage its brilliant use of space. The wood work is fabulous, I love all the little details. I can tell it's made with lots of love.
The craftsmanship of the wood work is excellent. The curves in the wood on the bench is perfection it fit like it was just meant to be. I cant imagine it any other way after seeing it made this way. The decor, style is amazingly Beautiful your wife has an decorative eye for beauty she put in the right touches here and there to help bring out the beauty in your craftsmanship. Between the two of you it all came together as a perfectly matched beautiful piece of artwork.
I don't have one negative things to say about this boat home except its a shame I don't own it lol... if I could, I would buy this beauty up in a heartbeat.
I can imagine having this boat home on one of our beautiful lakes here in the Great Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee. Having this Gorgeous boat home with our famous amazingly fabulous views, would be as close to living in heaven as you can get living here on earth.
This would be perfect for one or two people I could see a younger retired couple maybe around in their 50s buying this House Boat. I could see the couple enjoying sitting on the top deck having coffee and breakfest watching the sun rise. Then enjoying dinner with a glass of wine watching the sun setting from the top deck then star gazing at night.
I can see this being the prefect home for that younger retired couple.
Sorry for the long comment hope I didn't bore you to much. I just love this House Boat so I'm day dreaming. My comment is going on and on because I'm wish the boat home was mine 😊....
The two of you did a fantastic job, you two out did yourselves on this build. The love and hard work shows in every inch of the build/remodel its just Gorgeous....
Best Wishes & God Bless 👍👍😊
I've never seen any dwelling with this level of craftsmanship.
Beautiful.

Absolutely gorgeous and love the windows around the bed, really cozy. Only thing, is the mattress on the floor, while lovely looking I do not wanna crawl or fall into bed.
This little boat had me dreaming of peace and happiness inside of me. Thank you Jason and Cayley for sharing your dream boat.
This boat has been rebuilt with love and a dedication to detail. The joinery is indeed exquisite. I have always wished I could live in a houseboat! This boat home is going to make somebody very happy!
The things they don't mention coming from someone who grew up on a houseboat. LOTS of mosquitoes, pontoon maintenance (thats alot of time and money), the cost to store it during off season, a place to dock when your going into town to stock up, a place and money to empty the poop tank, where to get fresh water?! Also, this is common sense but some people don't get this, u have to know the lake your on. Not every rock is marked and once that pontoon gets a hole u better hope your close to the landing. If your ever interested in renting a houseboat for a weekend vacation lmk, I know a few resorts that rent them.
@@madji6886 They are in Victoria, BC. Barely any mosquitos here. Also, there is no "off season". Here in Victoria it is live aboard all year.
Amazing craftsmanship. My dad was a professional carpenter for a well known yacht company. Really wish I had learned these skills from him.
this *home* was definitely a labor of love, and it shows because it is absolutely beautiful ❤
Now that's a nice houseboat!
Absolutely love this boat/house! So many clever details and I just love the overall design and colour scheme! The only thing terrifying is the second floor with unprotected open gaps ready to break your neck... 😂
My dad worked in wood a lot. I can just FEEL all the beautiful wood on this beautiful boat, in my mind. What an incredible home, and an amazing project! I don't know if I should be happy for them, or sad, that they're selling this precious part of their lives after all they've done with it. I can only hope that the next owners will love it and care for it just as much as Jason and Cayley!
I can’t imagine putting so much love and sweat and tears and then selling this beautiful boat!
This is beautiful. We can clearly see the amount of work and love they put into this space.
Absolutely gorgeous. Very talented people.
Thanks for checking out the float home, happy you enjoyed it :)
''Doris Weems''.Are you too afraid to admit that they have worked very hard on this project? I leave the words '' talent/ talented'' for the lazy ones.

This is absolutely gorgeous. You can tell the amount of love and dedication they put into it. Thank you for letting us see your home!
The owners have done a fantastic job of renovating this. I walked by it regularly when it was derelict and am happy to see it fixed up. Well done!
Incredible work Jason! That curved bench is a work of art. Really the whole place is!
Hope you’re doing well.
Stunning! I would easily live in a home like this!
Most beautiful boat I've ever seen. You two have true artisan craftsmanship . ♥️
It has this typical Scandinavian style, it's not often that you see such a beautiful, tasteful piece of architecture in the USA. Just beautiful!
Visually, the fitting out and refurbishment looks fantastic. I love the fact that it looks light and airy and there is great use of space and storage! I like the amazing things you have done with wood, and fitting out, keeping the space uncluttered and yet retaining very much a homely, welcoming space.
In the UK boat homes on inland waterways (and I appreciate this isn't the UK and its coastal) require at least one fire detector. Certainly if I were living fulltime on a boat I'd make sure I was fully kitted out with health and safety, smoke/LPG/CO detectors, in the galley, fire blanket, extinguisher and first aid box. Its an easy win, because they're not expensive and easy to fit (five minutes!). I would also suggest a handrail to catwalk particularly where you are above the galley, sorry but I feel thats an unnecessary risk otherwise. Its one thing to lose your balance and jump down onto the counter top, its another when you have something hot to land into!
Jason, one of the most beautiful builds especially for a houseboat I’ve ever seen. Well thought out and beautifully accomplished. Love the words and the whole design. Thank you for showing us. And happy trails from California
The bench is a work of art!
That interior is gorgeous and soo cosy. Soo bright and airy.
Thank you for sharing your life with us! You guys did a great job on the reno! Wow! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I absolutely love the exterior design and shape of the houseboat, it speaks to me on many different levels. I love interior design, layout, improvements the whole overall design of the houseboat!!!it's just so cool looking... almost like it was designed after the shape of a tugboat without the tug capacity, plus made into a double decker basically giving it 3 levels!! The engine and basement like functionings of a house and the other 2 levels for living!!! Just Awesome!!!
I recognized the boat instantly, pass by it daily on my afternoon walk.
Yes, this is one of the most incredible living spaces I've ever seen!! I'm literally giving a standing ovation to this masterpiece!!!
What a beautiful boat. I'd love to own it. The wood work is absolutely stunning!! You can tell a lot of Love went into making Pax a place to call home. All the Best to them both.
This design; or something like it; would be an awesome design for mass production !!!
Real nice little houseboat... different and somewhat quirky! I think that it is beautifully finished - the woodcraft is really good, and it is going to make someone very happy... quite an adventure. 👍😄
Stunning and the little touches here and there are what make it stand out, someone is getting a beautiful home. I could see me and my dog seeing out our days on this
What a stunning boat - the wood color is gorgeous, and all the bespoke details - yum! and the deck on top!
The most beautiful 'live aboard' I've ever seen. You've created not only a pefectly livable space but, a work of art! I am envious of whomever gets to own and live in that beautiful environment.
WOW! Some of the designers from "NEVER TOO SMALL" could take a few lessons from you two.....small and minimalist need not be boring 😊. What a beautiful space.
Wow. This is so gorgeous.
stunning stunning stunning. Love it. Amazing. Thank you
So cute. I could live here in a heart beat. Love it!
This guys and his partner are proper artists! Beautiful stuff! I'd just put a (recycled) fishing net/hammock above the kitchen space that he said they wanted to close off and put a bench.
That would be so badass to have two hanging egg hammocks in the empty area off the bedroom floor and above the stairs!!😍
this lil ditty is absolutely stunning and priceless... lovely job of combined efforts.
That's the dream... until you get chronic migraines. Then you want to be somewhere dark with solid floors and zero noise.
Really jealous because it is a beautiful boat.
This is such a beautiful piece of work. You guys must be seriously proud of your "Tiny House" and I am sure that some smart person will see it's value and buy it pretty soon.
Well, if they "value" it at close to a quarter of a million they are welcome to it. Pretty pricy for a tiny.
Gorgeous boat/home. The curved bench and stair rail and beautiful. Your hard work and design have paid off xx
Just stunning! The craftsmanship and passion both of you put into this boat is amazing. Thank you for sharing!
I've always wanted to live in a boat. I love the way they set up that adorable little boat. What a wonderful way to live. I can't believe you're selling it now. Happiness to you both 🥰
I can. They put 40 to 50k into it, and it's listed at nearly 300k.
@@TheMoonRulesNo1 it is nice but I wouldn't pay anything like that much for it. Could have a new one built for less, bespoke.
@@angr3819 significantly less. I very nearly purchased a 27' sailboat with all live aboard amenities including a runabout for tooling around the harbor for 2500. Granted, it would have been cramped for more than 2 people, but it was fairly ideal for living, and the benefit of actually being able to sail it in the open ocean.
@@TheMoonRulesNo1 Sounds ideal for a single man. Especially a young man with no ties.
Houseboats might look good but unless they can move then may as well live on land with the convenience of being on the mains for everything and perhaps a bit of garden. I wonder what stopped you buying it?
@@angr3819 typical craigslist flake. The guy was living in San Francisco, and the boat was moored in Ventura harbor. Every Friday for about 6 weeks I'd get a hold of him to see if he was going to be in Ventura, and every week he said he'd be there Saturday, but come Saturday he was a ghost. I had the cash, I had a line on the parts I'd need to get it up to snuff, and I had a slip lined up in channel islands harbor with cable/internet, and utilities, but he just ghosted me every week. Worst part is I could have sold the runabout for what he was asking for the whole boat. It would have cost me around 6k to fix the issues, and get a fresh coat of paint on the hull, and I'd probably have been writing this comment from the harbor.
I'm blown away! I can only wish this stunning floating home was mine!
This is art. Stunning work, with so much thought and precision in each part.
I can remember walking around the harbour in Victoria, way back in 1996. I distinctly recall seeing a large luxury yacht moored there right next to a tiny sail boat. It turned out that the guy who owned this little sailing vessel was also living on it, and would pull a tarp over it to create a shelter at night. Good for him! Congratulations on achieving your dream on the water, building yourself such a beautiful and relaxing tiny home.
The various woods used are gorgeous! The whole boat is lovely. Best wishes on your next adventure. 🤗🖖💕
Wow, what a beautiful restoration. You can see both of your expertise and love/passion for your craft in this! I hope the future owner's love it as much as you loved making it what it is. Fantastic artisanry!
Absolutely stunning! You can really see the craftmanship and passion put into every detail!
Love it & love that you put a bathtub in.
Sweet little floating nest. Especially love the front door and bench. Nice work!
What a beautiful home
Absolutely beautiful house boat, with fabulous workmanship. The only thing I would change is the colour of the tiles in the galley and toilet.
Oh god yes. Subway tile is abhorrent and I cannot understand why anyone wants their home to look like a NY subway.
Wow !!!! What a masterpiece. I’ve rented most of my life what a dream to own something this beautiful and know that your hands built it.
A beautiful house boat. Lots of work and love went into restoring their home. We have a summer lake place and I’ve always thought it would be nice to have a house boat at the dock to have the feel of living on the water. Unfortunately, it would have to be pulled out in the winter months since the lake can start forming ice in mid November. Minnesota winters are cold. Thanks for sharing.
This is in Canada, in the West where the winters are milder than the east.
