You know, Greek myth tends to be one of three screws happening.
    1. The gods screw over the mortals and so they go on quests
    2. The gods screw over each other and mortals are caught in the crossfire
    3. Zeus screws something

Yeah that's the interesting thing. Hades gets combined with Zeus and Posiedon a lot in older myths because there's no mention of him and hence probably didn't exist in proto-greek culture. Historians suspect its because myths that are attributed to Hades nowadays had to contend with what was probably centuries of codified myth that had already been attributed to the other two, causing for weird scenarios like the one mentioned in this video. It's my personal opinion that its safe to hand Zag and Mel off to Hades properly because of that

She has he own active current "religion" too in modern day Erisians/Discordians you can look into. She seems like just some minor Goddess that just did the one thing with the apple, but considering who her parents might have been, she very well could have been a Major Goddess too.

The egyptian equivalent of Melinoe is Nephthys. I'm glad to learn this today along with a video to learn more.

    • @Xebelan
      @Xebelan Před 14 dny

Nebt Het, Nepthys, is the goddess of Death, Mercy, Joy and Mourning but not ghosts as such in the way the Greeks interpret them. She was used in heka against Muut, unjustified dead, to force them to behave or to answer questions-- but so is Ra, but in a different manner.
She is considered the most beautiful of all the Netjeru in her calm state, so lovely that she dons a long golden veil lest all work cease in her presence for the staring-- and she's also the most terrible in combat, white and bloodless as a stone statue, personification of the tomb with no exit, her braids long and entangling/strangling like mummy wrappings, her eyes flame and fire pouring from her mouth-- there she is Death, her name written in red ink, and you are finished.
In her first birth, she is the daughter of Bat, the cosmos, who strides out of nothingness uncreated with her as Autibet, the bringer of joy, clasped at her waist like a belt of stars. In her second, she is the celestial Nile, the Milky Way, the daughter of Hapi along with her sister Aset, who is the physical Nile. Ra here, upon looking at her splashing in the water at play with Aset, decided her nature as stardust and light was more befitting his nature as king-- and thus Married her-- giving us the first birth of Anpu, Anubis, son of Ra. (this angered Aset for multiple reasons) Later, at her birth as Geb and Nut's daughter, she finally is allowed to wed and be with her longtime love, Set, lord of storms, who took birth beside her to do so. etc
I could go on. but Egyptian myth is more akin to Indian than Greek myth-- each god has multiple incarnations, death is a transformation and not a finality for all of them, even the arrangement of the offering table brings to mind an abishek over a lingam with the table as yoni with its dripping spout, rather than the horned, ash and blood smeared altars of others.

It was GOW that got me into norse mythology in the first place, the Jon Solo got me way into mythology and folklore. Now im a folk and mytho nerd (if that's what you can call it. Im still new) i like learning about the fey, other all types of folklore and mythology. Right now im interested in Norse Mythology but i hope to learn more about the European folklores and tales. Maby even study in college. Im 15 i dunno if i can do that but itd be fun.😂

As one who got interested to mythology through Sailor Moon, you should first understand why these stories exists. After that, you will often understand why these writers interpreted these things (mythics are so to speak the modern novels/fanfiction and only got shared if deemed good enough)
Greek mythology: Gods are as humans dumb, evil and greedy while also having unlimited powers and like to play with humans as toys (or if anything bad or good happens try to tell a tale where gods are involved to be either favoured or to downplay your own achievements
Nordic: A catholic priest collected the stories/wrote the Eddas and tried to make these gods look as barbaric and mad as possible while promoting the church. While nordic folks just searched for explanations as to where thunder/lightning came from, how the moon changed their form and many other natural phenomenom until they agreed on gods as no human could do these things. Lore was also mouth to mouth spoken so, often, they were different versions and powers (which can be chaotic)
Irish folklore: Giving things that seem unnatural a name. Changelings were always described as mishapen, contorting unnatural or dumb(so probably physical disabilities, mental disabilities and seizures). People going mad in grief or after drinking wine were said to have been tricked by the fey into playing their games etc Since the fey are ageless, tireless and live in a static world the people needed something against them (as fey were known to be able to get you through doorways alone) so they later said they couldn't touch iron or be in iron wrought things. (Many doorways were then made with iron nails)
Like every historian will tell you: Who could gain the most from these tales? Who would get power through these lies and who would look bad? (napoleon was quite tall, nero was never near a burning rome) If you look behind the curtain, you might see your own myth looking back ;)

Jon I am such a fan of yours, which is saying something because I usually am hesitant about dudes who talk about mythology and are rolling my eyes so far back that I can see the back of my head. I appreciate the diversity and citing of your sources, plus your dry sarcasm is just *chef's kiss* I do want to give a little "criticism?" "Feedback?" Whatever you want to call it. I think it's more of just a lack of perspective, and the fact that you perhaps have never had to think of things this way which isn't a bad thing! Regarding your comment about Demeter and previous ones about Artemis, I think you have to take into consideration how the Greeks viewed women and how the writers of the myths were men which I'm sure you're aware of (and how assault practically gallops through 90% of the myths), with this in mind I want to pose a thought experiment: Say you are the brother of a goddess, a brother who actually views his sister as a living being with thoughts and feelings of her own--super rare in this context I know but go with it. You're aware that you are indeed in the minority of gods who think this way, and you are even more aware of how both gods and human men think of women and goddesses...and are fully aware that the goddesses and human women know this. With me so far? Need a snack? Go get one. You good? Awesome, let's continue. So as this god--we'll say you're a god of stories and patron of good doggos--you come home and find your sister has returned from bathing with her nymphs or maybe you come home to find your mother has just returned from hiding your sister in a random cave. Your sister says that she had a dude sneak up on her and just kept staring at her, she knew he was a hunter because of his bow or spear or whatever and she also knew that this area was really far away from the nearest village. What else could she have thought except that "I am in danger and need to do something," or perceive him as a threat? As her brother you probably would have thought she was too nice knowing what men and gods do to their female counterparts. Furthermore, you would probably ask if that cave was far enough or deep enough to hide your sister in. I don't want to seem like I'm chastising or I'm one of those unhinged, screaming and yelling man-hating...TERF...woman person (they are *not* feminists, they are an infection), I am a pot stirrer yes but I also know that the only way to have different voices heard is to have a conversation....like sane adults. Anyway sorry for the novel, and as I said I really enjoy your content and you seem like a dude who just loves mythology and want to learn all about it. Keep kicking ass my friend!

Well it’s not very important but if you watch the season two of blood of Zeus there is a very touching scene where Hades and his wife are saying goodbye to each other because in mythology she has to leave every six moons meaning that when spring is supposed to start she leaves the underworld to start bringing back the grass and the harvest and the trees and she stays away for almost all year till when it starts getting close to fall which is why the seasons change. Anyway we get to see their two kids and the daughter is crying because she doesn’t like having her mother leave every year so her mother and her father Hades have to comfort her it’s also the reason why Hades finally decides to go through with his plan to overthrow his fellow gods so he can change his and his wife’s fate. Anyway I was so curious about the kids that I had to look them up on Google and that’s when I found out about the Hades game and how both of them are the protagonist for part one and part two. I also found out that the daughter is probably not going to be well liked when she embraces her godliness because she’s not exactly a good God and the fact that she’s having my mother issues…. May explain why is she is the goddess of madness and the goddess of ghosts.
