The 1910s definitely wins in being the scariest. That is terrifying
In the 1910s it wasn't even that scary. It was more about moms making costumes for their kids and it was often their favorite characters which aren't that well known now. Some kids dressed up as witches but they didn't have pointy hats at the time. For the masks, there was actually a time where a group of kids all wore masks and vandalized an area and that's when it became more commercialized.

Sad truth
Not me, but I did that once, because it was a school day and it was storming. So I threw on a flannel and face paint and went to the store to get some food for a movie night. But I always dress up even at 24 I like to go to Halloween parties, and haunted houses while dressed in a costume.

I was one of them 😂🤣 9 years old with my big "tutu" type skirt, multi colored shirts over my shoulder, bracelets for days and that horrible hair color spray they used to sell. Cyndi Lauper "Girls just wanna have fuuuuuun!!" - me singing all day long.
