Mine had a scoring system in the end receptacle. My brother and I took turns to play until all the ball bearings were used up. Then we'd add up the scores. Loved this game!!
I got this for Christmas in the 70s. It was a favorite and it lasted a long time. If was a big deal since I was one of nine children and toys were played with hard and rarely lasted very long. 💕 Thank you for the fun memory!

Try just one drop of car motor oil at both end of the motor where the shaft enters the motor housing. Use a toothpick. You spray probably contains a lot of solvent.
I guess they made things to last back then. That is the original material that came with the toy. Even though it was in a hot attic it is like new. I'm not sure how you could source a replacement material.
Try using Labelle 108 motor oil. I use this stuff all the time for my model trains and it works great! Otherwise, buy a new motor. These things are just low quality mass-produced made-in-China motors, nothing special. If you get its dimensions and shaft diameter in mm you can probably get a new one. If you can't find the exact size, I'm sure any other similarly sized electric hobby motor will do for this application. Chances are it's really hard, if not impossible to get the pulley off the shaft without damaging it. You can buy all sorts of white plastic gears and pulleys for hobby motors, so there's probably one that's the size you need. Secure it to the shaft with a tight press fit or some super glue. Just make sure that the pulley you choose has the same shaft diameter as your new motor! Good luck!
hi Tom, I have just bought one of these "for spares" on ebay and the motor seems to run fine with a d cell battery ie 1.5 v I lubricated the motor with silicone spray lube and it likes it, just need to purchase some balls and am guessing at 10mm diameter? I,m gong to try latex gloves for drum skins as the originals are perished, if you could measure the balls it would be much appreciated thanks.

I measured 11mm or just under 0.5 inches.
