    The thing with pedals is that hearing them is not enough. You got to play them. Especially drive pedals.

    You are 100% correct of the fashion analogy. I noticed that first with the big strymon pedals. But at the same time nothing on the market could come close to offering what they did when they came out. But now strymon has some serious competition. Dirt pedals will always be a tough market. There are so many great builders with new tweeks or takes on circuits. I just bought a chase bliss Atomotone a little over a month ago. I love it. It is seriously great. But I also just bought a use cornerstone gladio V2 for a great price. It arrives in 2 days. Can't wait to see if it is really that damn good or just a fashion trend. All that being said I have been on the KOT waiting list for over 2 years now. Can't wait until my name comes up. I had the prince of tone just to get an idea. I liked it alot. When I get my KOT it will be a keeper. We live in a great time for guitar gear. Sometimes a bit overwhelming.

      Another very expensive one that just isn’t for me but I did buy their antique v2 and it’s great to push your amp’s distortion. Kept the Strymons btw. Kollmanation pedal imo way better.

    The Duellist LOOKS so cool, though. Like a rack mounted unit or an old Space Echo.
    Edit: Damn great playing. Forgot to compare them haha.

    Hey Tony. Nice battle. Both sounded cool. I'm sure your great playing helps a lot too.
    I loved the tone of both, but I give the edge to the Duelist.
    I would love to see you compare the Duelist with a Kingtone Blues Power. I realize the Blues Power isn't an overdrive, but I think there are many players who like both pedals but can only afford one of them. A pedal battle between them would make you the only CZcamsr with such a video. Thanks for the videos.

  • @frantisca
    @frantisca Před 3 lety +2

    Thanks for the upload. Both are great pedals, but not identical. I like the KOT for its simplicity, the Duellist for its versatility (a bit complex to tweak though). All in all, I think the KOT cleans up a bit better (10:13) and is less warbly when both channels are on and dimed (8:53). This is my taking anyway... ;-) Cheers !

  • @vivienverdier
    @vivienverdier Před 4 lety +1

    Great video man! Really interesting,the KOT seems more open and dynamic but it could be because it has less gain,more of a clean boost
    Killer playing as usual👍

  • @kikomarty4337
    @kikomarty4337 Před 2 lety +1

    Both great pedals. If you want to sound like SRV with dirty blues go the duelist, if you want a more transparent sound go the KOT.

    • @srficarra
      @srficarra Před 2 lety

      Kiki Marty. You are exactly right. And some people are fine just having SRVs sound and there’s nothing wrong with that cuz it’s a great tone. Every guitar player should have that sound in their arsenal. It’s kinda a raunchy clean that’s articulate loaded with harmonics and it’s aggressive with balls. But sometimes you do feel like you need a brake from it. Definitely worth having both I think. The KOT is probably better at pushing a saturated amp with its transparency and the Duellist might sound a little harsher with its bright top

  • @liv2praz
    @liv2praz Před 3 lety +1

    both sound super sick. if i wanted an OD for just the higher gain driven tones, i may go with the Duallist. but i tend towards low-mid gain tones, and there is just something about the character of the initial attack that the KoT has that i’ve never heard (and really, felt) in another OD. there’s an uncompressed immediacy to the attack that’s more like a cranked amp than an OD pedal, especially when run at 18v. but dude, you’re killing the cranked tones on the Duellist!

    I have both of these pedals, and they really are different. For my style of playing, I much prefer the KOT. I got tired of constantly fiddling with the duellist to get a good sound and tone out of it. My KOT is always on; the Duellist is always off. In fact, it's just sitting in its box.

    • @frantisca
      @frantisca Před 3 lety +1

      Right on: The Duellist is a very good pedal, but too much tweaking. My fave remains the CmatMods SuperSigna: always on, fantastic dynamics controlled by the playing (light/hard) and the volume pot. Love it !!

    I have both pedals. My observation is that Strat/Teles sound better with the Duelist, the KOT works best with all other guitars with less emphasis on the mid range hump of the Duellist. The KOT shines on the top end and grit. The Duellist is very smooth often too smooth. I think that I prefer the KOT for more songs
