You're so busy! What a week! Wisdom teeth, concussions, extractions, oral surgery, oh my!! Your son's wedding is coming up with plenty of time to make an outfit! September 14 was my Mom's birthday! I have been busy tying up loose ends as she passed Feb 10 at a nice age of 92. Reading is a great escape to other places in our minds! Enjoy your new books! I love watching CZcams videos on the origins of humankind! The cradle of human origins in South Africa and Ethiopia fascinates me! Coffee is my favorite beverage also! See you next time!

Ah books, my mother took a job cleaning our town library when I was a small child....she had to take me with her and I became fascinated with books and wanted nothing more than to learn to read. I was blown away that someone had written something 100+ years ago and I could pick that book up and be reading their thoughts 👍🏼. I have a wide range of interests and also listen to podcasts and obviously (😊) watch CZcams. I enjoy the social aspect of your channel and have even learned some things about sewing. Every beverage has a time and place for me, from a nice hot cuppa to a frosty, ice cold beer. You have definitely decided me against getting dental implants, I can't imagine dealing with all that continuous pain. Hoping your boys are recovering from their injuries and dental work. 👍🏼

Hah actually the implant site is fine, doesn’t really hurt. It’s the extracted one with the empty socket that is killing me!

I know you’ve mentioned some CZcamsrs you like to watch. I don’t watch a lot of garment sewing tutorials … but rather CZcamsrs that show their makes and the Friday Sews series. However Ellie & Mac Patterns has tutorial series and I love their patterns. Now for bag-making there are quite a few tutorial CZcamsrs. Some of my favorites are: K. Dill Handmade, Siah Swag, Jess Oklaroots, Jeannie’s Designs, Seams Legit & Brandy Jackson. If you do not have a heavy duty machine, I highly recommend making cork bags & wallets. Check out Sew Many Creations and SewGnar … they both write patterns specifically for cork. And the cork sews like a dream!

I could never listen to an audio book, my mind would wander. My favorite is anything by Stephen King!

I used to listen to them but not anymore. There are too many things I want to watch instead!

Slinky fabrics can be hard to work with but there are lots of tips to help. Some basics are to always hold the threads taught at the back of the machine when starting and start with your needle down; also don’t start right at the edge of the fabric and maybe try a bit of tear away stabilizer or tissue paper to keep your fabric from getting caught under the throat plate when you start. Spray starch works wonders to make the fabric behave as well. As far as those symbols- the shapes are meant to represent body shapes that the pattern works well with. Personally, I would ignore those- you know better what works for you. Glad someone else addressed the fabric type or this comment would be even longer! I really enjoyed your live sew along- you don’t have to be an expert for a sew along rather than a tutorial. Thanks for your videos!

Thank you so much for the tips! I am so frustrated that I had to put it in the naughty corner! I am going to keep trying all the tips until I figure this out.
I will think about doing another live sew a long!

lol! It’s just fabric! If you mess up just do it again! Measure twice, cut once.

I love books! I'm a romance and mystery/horror junkie. I'm reading The Love Letter by Rachel Hauck. I'm trying to make a curtain for a small bathroom window that is like a Roman shade but hung on a spring tension rod and just ties up with ribbon. Having trouble getting started!

Hi Laurie! It’s good to hear from you! By trouble getting started, do you mean you just don’t want to do it so the supplies just sit there and yell at you? So how about if you set a timer for say 15 minutes and tell yourself you only have to work on it for that 15 min. a day? It could be a longer or shorter time, whatever is right for you.

A double knit is not stretchy. It is a fabric that was created when polyester and Dacron and other new fabrics came around in the 60s and 70s. ( or was it 70’s and 80’s?) It is usually thick and holds its shape. It might have a little bit very very minimum stretch.

I’m working on a project that is getting sucked into my machine too. I started putting scrap paper under the seam I’m doing. I use a walking foot too. It works but when I tear the paper away the stitches are a little loose. I haven’t played with tension. It is better than holes as I can’t seam rip either. Horrible fabric! No wonder it was on clearance 😂

😥 I feel your pain! I got a size 60 microtex needle and programmed my machine for very light fabric and I am also using scraps of fabric to start and stop my seams. It’s working!

Do you have a walking foot for your sewing machine? If so, you could try that for this project. Or … do you have a serger? You could try using a serger for this fabric.

My Bernina has a built in walking foot. I do have a serger….I will experiment on a scrap. Thanks!

😊can you practice sew on discarded bodice until stitches are adjusted?

Did you try tissue paper under the material bc it is so thin?

    • @TheWanderingSewist
      @TheWanderingSewist  Před 4 měsíci

That was on my list of things to try but I didn’t need to go that far for success.
