Hi Lloyd, I’ve watched this 3 times now! I really enjoyed your run down. Lots I agreed with and your two titbits were great. Elvis’s Dad also appeared on a really famous TV advert back in the day. It was an ad for R Whites Lemonade. He sang on it, and it appeared for years on UK TV. Great honest story when you met him. Your top 2 were a shock, but I must say, I’m not a country fan BUT, for some reason I’ve always lived Almost Blue. I got it when it came out, and a TV docu was put out at the same time following him and the band and watching them make the album in Nashville. Brilliant album. But my number 1 by far, and has been for ever is My Aim Is True. I think the intimate production is superb and the songs are great. You put a lot of work into this Lloyd and it shows, well done my friend! Mike
Hi Mike, WOW, three times, you must not have a life mate LOL. i have never seen that doco you talked about, i was hoping there would have been a 40th anniversary edition of the album with the doco as a bonus but EC doesnt tend to do those anniversary editions sadly. i agree with your comment about the production, not sure whether i mentioned it in the video but i find his production on all of his albums to be first class without fail. thanks for the kind, positive words also, have a great week Mike - regards Lloyd

I really enjoyed this video, you've got a really good, self deprecating style but clealy know what you are talking about. It was good to get a full retrospective as, even though I'm a lifelong EC fan, I've seen him over 20 times since 1980, I've kind of lost touch in the past decade or so. It's all a matter of personal taste and some records mean more because they meant something at the time you first heard them, I'm like that about Get Happy!! for example, which I'd have in the top 5 easily. Great work and thanks for making the effort to share your thoughts.

Trust is my #1, but Get Happy is just so damn great, I can't believe it. I like bits and pieces here and there .I find it hard to sit through an entire album .

Thanks for this and all the memories it has brought back. I think I would have put This Year’s Model at the top followed by Armed Forces, My Aim Is True and Get Happy then King of America. In the UK we had a cassette compilation 10 Bloody Marys and How’s Your Fathers which would come after that. I think Just A Memory from that one is my favourite Elvis Costello track. I agree that Indoor Fireworks is excellent and one of his best ever.

Odd that you would choose a covers album as your favourite album by such an original, prolific and brilliant songwriter. Each to their own. I would put King of America at number one, Imperial Bedroom at number two, and My Aim Is True at number three - or perhaps the cruelly underrated Trust. A songwriting colossus.
Hi Jason, normally covers album would rank extremely low for me in any artists' catalogue but i think Mr McManus did an exceptional job with that album. King Of America was a close second for me and Trust rounded out my top 5, still love Imperial Bedroom even though it appeared fairly low in the list, i think growing up in the era of post-punk/new wave i was extremely lucky to see the emergence of several of the greatest songwriters from the UK (Costello, Weller, Sting and Knopfler), thanks for watching and commenting - Lloyd

Great work Lloyd. I consider myself a big Costello fan and yet there are quite a few records (Juliet Letters, North,) here I've never heard and am not that interested in. My favourite of his is King of America, also a top 10 record for me by any artist. I also really love Mighty Like a Rose. I do think he's had a bit of an artistic renaissance in recent times. He was a bit of a punk rocker at heart but he's got his muso side, and that doesn't always quite work for me. Funnily enough I'm not that fussed about his collaborations, I'd rather take him on his own preferably with The Attractions. Amazing that you got to meet him and would love to hear the full-blown Paul Weller/Tim Finn/Gene Simmons stories also!. Cheers, James

Brilliant video, Lloyd. It wouldn't be a "Lloyd Boon" video without a few surprises lol. The main one is Get Happy being so low. I must admit I lost a bit of interest after Brutal Youth but did continue to buy a few more of his releases but not giving them the attention they really deserve. So, I'll defintely give When I Was Cruel and especially The Delivery Man another go!
