I was diagnosed with MS 2 years ago and this was the first show I ever had to attend in a wheelchair. Derek made it special it made me feel so much better in the moment.
My friends mom but she was my friend too had ms . I remember when we ate some mushrooms . She was smiling ear to ear and said I think I found the cure for ms . I wish you the best my friend .
Lived in toga for 15 years. I’m 21 y/o now, phish is my life. My parents raised me on em. I’ve gone to every phish Spac show since 2012, with the legendary, flawless YEM encore from that specific year, I was 10-11 that year. Changed my life. A whole decade later…I get a call around noon of the second day of the benefit shows, my best buddy whom has worked at spac for 8ish years and was a supervisor by this point this past summer of 2023, informed me that dereck was going to play the majority of second set, didn’t believe him and called him a goon until I saw the tech guys throw derecks simple set up on stage in like 10 seconds or less, as a guitar player since 6 (thanks to CliffordBall era trey) I knew my spac supervisor buddy was right when he called me around noon the second day for the heads up. Love that kid, matter of fact I brought him to his first shows and turned him onto phish via my mothers Clifford Ball full fest dvd set. He couldn’t get enough of it. He’s been a jam head ever since I showed him like 4ish years ago when we were like 17-18y/o. He’s been to almost as many phish shows as I’ve gone to since I was 10-11ish, he started at like 18 by himself. Anywho, this show put me at ease. Wasn’t so close with my mom cuz she got her third dwi a couple months prior to this and she was still drinking at this point, but a month post these beautiful shows I snapped her out of it and today she’s 53 days sober, taking care of my 17 y/o sister with terminal brain cancer, my mom takes care of my lil sis every day and she’s my mom again and she is being a fucking champion, sober at that for the first time for her (my mom) since she was a youngin. Everything rly is right rn and I’m holding tight. It’s been a bumpy trip but I’m so excited for everyone’s future. Phish has changed my life for the better good. Best band in the world imho just because of how much they’ve done for me personally without even having a conversation with them myself personally speaking. But since my mom has done so good and living in Saratoga, Trey is an alumni in the sobriety meetings in the saratoga area and she gets to meet him, and she is ‘making me’ (inviting me) to go with her for the event of sobriety and I get to meet my hero soon enough. My style of playing is just like my hero. Matter of fact by coincidence, my current abode is a 4 minute walk from the old Plattsburgh Air Force base which held phish’s first and largest festival which inspired me to play guitar in the first place when I was like 6 years old. This world is full of coincidences and convenience that I can hardly comprehend. But my hero Trey Anastasio has changed so many lives in one way or another including mine and his and everyone in my family that I can name. Conclusion: it was an honor to be back in my home town to whiteness these two amazing nights of music, all of which was for a great cause at the same time. Very grateful for this video to be up…still. As I will rewatch it whenever I need a spark of inspiration. Dereck was a perfect fit and phish tore it up both nights as a whole. Makes my heart move the same every time and I know that will never change. Cheers to life my phriends, as it is a blessing to be alive on this planet witnessing everything our eyes can behold. Peace and love: -Mason Malpass

Derek Truks is a guitar god and this jam while joining Phish is a treat. His style of picking is truly unique to him only. Seen him many times via Allman Bro’s and Susan Tedeschi Derek Truks. He’s such a joy to watch and always blows me away. He’s Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, and Eric Clapton all rolled into one.
His picking reminds me somewhat of Mark Knopfler of Dire Straights. 2 of the few lead G players who pick without one. 😮😉 2 of the greatest and both are finger-pickers. 🎸🎶🎸👌
That Blue Sky tease at 25:50 is everything. And that First Tube is absolute magic. The way Derek can literally continue to play the guitar while simultaneously grabbing the slide from his pocket and SEAMLESSLY carrying on his solo is absolute witchcraft. Such a beautiful performance.
Derek’s fingers are so calloused he can play slide with just his finger in a pinch. He also can lift the slide up (without removing it) when he wants to finger play. His brain is rerouting some notes to the little pinky finger. He has been fantastic for years now, but his skills during the last 18 months are stunning! On a couple of songs he plays the bass strings plus the song melody on mostly the middle strings while also playing lead and fill ins. Keeping all of it going. Not an entire song, but for parts of the song.
I watched the live feed and was happily surprised at how long he stayed on stage to jam. As a lover of great guitar 🎸 these are not just 2 legends of Rock, but 2 virtuosos taboot. 🎶🎶🎵🎶🕺🏾🎶🎵🎶💃🏾🎵🎶🎶
A friend just shared this and it’s fantastic. I’ve seen a few videos lately of Trey joining TTB, but either he doesn’t have his full rig or the audio is just not so great because you can’t really hear him that well. In this setting Derek adds such a huge new dimension. Definitely one of the best things I’ve seen in a while. Thanks!
one of the greatest moments of my life. I've seen phish since 1988, I was mike side 18th row and rarely i was sober. just so blown away, saw the same thing with Carlos 7/25/92 in Stowe (not sober) where Im from. @model_number_band - when TTB plays their annual run @ the Beacon in NYC usually Trey joins for at least a few tunes over the run of shows. There is a gr8 version of mountain jam (allman brothers) from a few yrs back definitely worth a listen

This is a perfect Win Win for all. All games elevated. As talented as Derek Trucks is, this is the first time in a long while that I've not been bored by the same old slippery sound on the same boring songs. I bet that stings, haters. I think read somewhere that Derek Trucks is thinking about joining Phish because, and I quote, "These guys get me and this is the most fun I've had in decades." Surely, I am joking. The point is that this is the magic... these forces joining is pure gold. Be thankful! Day 2, set 2 of Dick's about to start!

Derek may be the best on the planet. The guy just steals any show he plays in.
People don’t talk about/appreciate how great Trucks can be as a rhythm guitar player. Some of his backup for Trey is incredible
People don’t appreciate Derek period a lot of people he’s one and Trey is one A in my opinion
I feel like some of these songs will never sound the same again. This is UNREAL.
I know they wont ever sound the same for me. EPIC! The energy was already amped up before DT … then bonkers!!

I honestly am not generally a huge fan of sit ins with phish but this was unbelievable and elevated the show dramatically.
not all guest stars and sit ins go well, but this is truly magical.
Reciprocating for Trey joining TTB at Lock'n to do Layla album. Magic when these guys get together
