YES PLEASE - NC Flounder and Sheepshead Fishing

- September is Flounder season here in NC and everyone is on the hunt. Too bad it takes one or two drops to get your one fish limit. Sheepshead and Black Drum have 10 fish limits so you can still have a fun day out on the water. I took another look at that first Flounder and I am sure that it was a Gulf Flounder as well, you can see three distinct spots when he is still in the water. I always seem to catch Gulf Flounder at that spot, odd. Get out there and be somebody.
16' Sundance Skiff, 30HP Mercury
Daiwa Saltist LD30H - Penn Carnage II 6'2"
Shimano Stradic 4000 - Fenwick HMG 7', Medium Fast
100 Pound Power Pro, 80 Pound Fluorocarbon Leader
43:2 Fishing Jawbreaker Jig
Catch Red Jointed Fiddler Crags in muddy marsh grass areas. I recommend wearing gloves so you can pick them up faster and sunglasses so you don't get poked in the eyes by the tall grass.
Catch Sea Urchins on pilings and other structure below the high tide line (WEAR GLOVES, the spines are non-venomous but can leave splinters and oyster cuts are nasty), I recommend using a crab net.

I have no interests in fishing, but found this very informative and fun to watch
Those commercial guys are going to be unhappy that you caught one of there flounder. Its all about money, makes me sick. Good fishing capt..
😂 SMH
Great video ,Sir. Enjoy your live bait fishing , fishing for the pan, teaching your boys. Even an old guy has learned some tips. Thanks and stay safe.
Enjoy watching younger fishermen (I'm88) fish sheephead. In my younger years we would get a second hand (worn out) garden hoe, bend it with a torch then use it to scrape the side of the piling. Waite a few minutes then start fishing; oysters, crabs, schrimp. what ever we had for bait. VERY PRODUCTIVE.
I agree with you on the (Why)when it come to the strict regulations on certain species with the size, bag and season limits. It’s happening all down the east coast. Keep at it.👍
Good morning out for sure. Good fishing and good clean content. Two of my favorite fish to target and eat as well. Great job man.
natural fishing, i like it. so good video
Excellent video as always! Hoping to get down there tomorrow or end of next week!
Great video! Thanks for the tips on keeping the bait overnight.
New subscriber here, from Galveston. Keep up the great videos! 👍🏼

I love watching your videos however I want to find the fish like you do. I was tied up to that same rope last weekend and couldn't get a bite. Hope you have a great flounder season cause my wife and mine is foundering.

another helpful & inspirational clip ! never use urchins...but you got it down. might start a channel..OffUrchins !
Just subbed to your channel, and I also live in NC Raleigh. Love Wrightsville beach area most.
OKF awesome video! i just found your channel and subscribed!
Great video man my 3 year old Lane loves your stuff he sings your theme song all the time haha. He'd flip out if you gave him a shout out your next episode!!!
I have zero fishing knowledge - and I thought I had no interest in it, and yet I’m obsessed with this content. 😂
Pretty sweet! Never thought about using those sea urchins,
Dude gotta say your pretty fit jumping up&down like that!🤘 Super jealous I'm not out there catching um w/u brother!
B, Enjoy your channel. I'm in H.I., so likely drove right over you going to M Head. Cheers
good job brian
I know nothing about fishing but your video was cool new subscriber
Finally a vid that actually keeps the fish! Hehe. Nice fishing brother!
Nice job.
Subscribed and liked 👍
Wait..so that's how you get your sea urchins. I live in Texas and have been wanting to try to use them out here. Are they in the same places out here?
Go out and take a peek, the closer to the inlet the more likely they will be there. Good Luck!
we use oyster here in FL. it's now biting like crazy, too bad only 8 sheepsheads per person
Man that’s crazy how flounder is more regulated up there than red snapper is here lol
Great content sir!
Where did you get your crabs
Do sheepshead like urchins a lot? I’ve seen that they’re pretty picky and prefer live bait, I’ve only heard of them really liking live sand crabs though.
Also doing videos like this you've gotta get the sunglasses we can see thru the water w/uman!
Mr. Sheepshead, can you give me an Idea where to find Mud Crabs and other bait. I've looked by the shrimp fleet on harkers at low tide , is there anywhere or conditions to find the bait you use? Thanks , I enjoy the videos.
Молодец. Хорошо ловят рыбббки
Wow beautiful fish are they good eating
Excellent, I highly recommend...
@@offkilterfishing I envy your clean and not brackish water
Man I haven’t seen those bigger fiddlers crabs before just the smaller ones
They're Nuclear
You should show us your cooking and filleting skills!
I used to live at Carolina Beach. Now Raleigh area. What bridge were you under?
It's funny DMF says recs can't identify the difference between flounder and that's why the commercial guys can take tens of thousands of summers with trawls but we can't keep any until now.
🎁 in the right. Legislating on bad data. More 🤡overreach to come on previously unregulated species🐟😡
It would be nice if they decoupled the flounder limit from being inclusive of all species (southern, gulf, and sumner) and place individual limits on each species, since it’s the Southern that’s considered endangered. However, the powers that be assume that fishermen cannot correctly identify and place the limit toward all. Interesting that they assume that I cannot identify a fish in my hand, but it’s expected that I can identify a duck flying at 50mph in early morning light and shoot the right one that’s in season. Seems backwards .. just saying
DOPE
Where did you find that urchin net setup or is it home made?
Neuse Sport Shop in Cedar Point NC
What’s the deal with the bucket hanging from the back of your boat?
Hey bud was nice seeing you on the water Wednesday. Why do you smash the urchin?
If you GENTLY tap it with a wood block it will mostly stay together but will allow you to get to where you can hook it through the mouthparts on the underside easier. Busting the urchin releases scent and drives the fish crazy. The only part that really has to be on the hook is the center section known as "Aristotle's Lantern".
@@offkilterfishing thanks bud. Doing Morehead in my sons boat tomorrow. The son who works at Ace marine. Maybe we’ll see ya. Keep the videos coming. Love them!
Where are you at in NC?!
Where do you get sea urchins.
They look like rambutan.😁
I was looking for inspiration for my next drawing how did I get from Pinterest to here.
Well I got what I came for so not complaining.
What kind of fish net do you use?
what part of nc you from brother. found you today and this video earned you a sub friend!
Newport, Welcome kind sir!
@@offkilterfishing Dang bro I wish I would have found you earlier we were just in Atlantic Beach week before last maybe we could have hooked up and fished together
Are you in emerald isle
Fishing is so cruel but oddly satisfying. The amount of pure agony the fish seem to be in is interesting
What boots are you wearing
Its illegal to be on bridge pilings ever since 9/11 in Maryland especially anchoring the boat to the bridge.
Regulations = control.
I didn't see the reason for jumping up on the pylon when your boat is right there seems like a whole lot of work up and down up and down
What’s the bucket in the water for
Live mullet
Talked to a guy working at Dudleys baitshop and he said he knew you.
I moved from Commie NJ Shore to NC wonder why ya can only keep 1 Summer Flounder aka: Fluke ?? In NJ ya can keep 3..... subbed ya channel.
@feeshyfeeshy , :) Yep your right 😊. What is good is ya have a mix of northern and southern fish 🐟 here.. tight lines and screaming reels.. be well..
Just out of curiosity I was teached to stun the fish with a baton to the head and then kill him with a poke to the hearth. Is this method outdated?
Can you give me the address of the bridge, please?
Is it possible for you to call me. I live in the Outer Banks and I’d like to get some information about your techniques sheepshead fishing.
You can use way more abundant bait than sea urchins that are not that plentiful, there are way way more crabs than urchins if you don’t understand
So no dispatch?
Wtf he is putting the fish (still alive) into the ice box?
But the betters catch thousand
Up North they call them fluke if they have spots on them and their mouth is the other way they are a founder I really don't understand why the southerners all call those flounder he won't catch a flounder as big as a fluke or just you know enlightening you
Thank you for your generous MacBook offer but instead of that could I have $1600 worth of Shasta Twist?
I just go ahead and get the forklift cranked up
Back then this fish scare me because of the uglyness of the fish look like alien.. but actually good fish for eat.
Pretty sure I’m the only woman here… but I’m okay with that.
Человек побрить ежа чтоб поймать рыбу
Poor
Bro just because he fishes doesn't mean he's poor
Dude man bust off oysters off pier or bridge columns and bring some panty hose. Use the pant hose to keep oyster on hook and I promise you won't use fiddlers anymore.
Outer Banks??
They Practically jump into your boat and basically bite the line as soon as you go where they are
So you just let your catch choke to death? Pretty gruesome imho.
BTW it's Extremely easy to catch Sheepshead!!!!
